They said it was an hardware issue, what are they going to do? Nothing.

Maybe the iPhone 2011 will have a different design because of the problem. I don't see any fix for the current model.

Unlikely not. There are a lot of reports out there of a stealth fix in the system right now, no need to wait till the end of Sept. Just have to be in the right spot at the right time in order to get your phone swapped out for one that has been revised.

How did you come to that conclusion? If there is a hardware issue, they need to fix the hardware, not just sit back and do nothing. I'm holding out for some kind of insulating clear-coat or minor antenna re-design.

Another reason why there won't be a fix is that they will sell more and more, Maybe they will sell 10 million by September, do you think they can replace all of them? No chance.

Minor resign? Are you joking? You can't do a redesign and roll it out that quickly. I'm sure they will be testing all products very carefully from now on.

As for the clear-coat, your hoping for a magic product really...

Steve Jobs also admitted it was an hardware issue.

The pre-Sept 30th buyers get a free bumper, and post-Sept 30th buyers get a different antenna.

Since everybody feels the need to make their own thread with their own theory, I'll hi-jack yours for mine. I think that apple is stopping the free case on the 30th because the people who first bought the phone had no idea that this problem existed. Jobs is throwing everybody a cheap bone to get good press. Its like 'hey, you new batch, thanks for buying it... sorry there's a problem but this might help'. I feel like SJ is saying after Sept 30th, the person buying should know there's a problem, and if they still want to buy it, great! But you're gonna buy your own ****ing case. The new iphone comes out in t-minus 11 months... WhyTF do you think he's going to waste R&D on this phone when they've probably already started designing the new one.

I think you hit the nail on the head honestly. That's what I read into the Sept 30th deadline. I think a recall or even redesigning is completely unrealistic of people. They are there to make money. They are going to do what they percieve will lose them the least amount of money for the most amount of gaining PR that they can get. They felt offering a free case would get the best PR for their buck. A recall or even redesign would just be too costly and not worth the PR they'd get for it (in fact, it may not get them much better PR as you will always have unhappy people and then you'll still have people jumping on them seeing, "See, it was a faulty design").

They're a business people, not your friend. They are there to make money. They are going to do what gets them the most bang for their buck. The only way they'd lose money for not much bang is if it was a safety issue. Even then they're still thinking bottom line (just lawsuits over liability can get expensive and are not worth the risk).

MUTE POINT

MUTE POINT

Moot! It's moot point!

Are you joking? There would be an out roar. Alot of people love the design and hate the fact that they may need a bumper to protect it from signal loss, are you telling me that a £25/$30 bumper will make it alright and they will forget it?

No.

No.

There shouldn't be an out roar because day-one buyers can STILL return their phones if they aren't happy with having to use a bumper.

I think it's naive of you to suggest that Apple won't fix their admittedly flawed design just so the early adopters don't feel stuck with a "defective" phone. But that's exactly how it works in this industry. Your phone has a design flaw. You can still return it. If you don't return it, that's your fault, and you shouldn't be upset at Apple if they end up fixing the design for people who decided to wait.

If there is a problem with my iPhone 4 and after sep 30th, they fix it, then I would like the option to get one of those instead of my defective one. I'm worried most about resale value.

I can see the ebay pages now: "iPhone 4 - post sep 30 antenna fixed" going for more money vs "iPhone 4 pre sep 30 with free bumper"

I'm not upset at all, the signal in my area is great and I have none of the problems. I think it's naive of you to assume that Apple has a fix and millions of phones on the way in the space of two months.

You do have that option. Return it now (like Steve told you to if you aren't happy) and wait for a new one.

You can't expect Apple to let you keep your phone so you can wait and "see what happens" after the 30th. If you aren't happy with your phone now, then return it now. If you are happy with your phone now, then chances are you will still be happy with your phone after the 30th even if they change the design.

Because it is so hard to spray the antennae with a durable insulating polymer? They have probably already started...

i don't think its baseless to assume apple is going to fix the antenna problem without telling people and then stop giving out the "fix" because there is no longer a problem. I'm happy with my phone for the most part but if it is going to effect resale value, which it could, i guess i should return it and hope iPhone 5 is better.

shhhhh
The first rule of Silent Recall is, you do not talk about Silent Recall.

What is the chance of a stealth fix to the iPhone 4 after sep 30th?

Stealth fixes include but are not limited to:
Special coating on phone antenna

What do you think? If i bring my prestealth fix phone into the store, could i get a stealth fixed one? It is far too fishy for them not to continue to give out free cases if there is a "problem" right?

If they definitely fix the antenna and proximity sensor issues, then I'll be first in line again to buy an IP4. I'm not convinced that the HTC or N-1 don't have the same issue with the antenna since they all use the same type of design.

Jesus H Diaz.

Why do people read things into everything that Apple says instead of just reading what they say.

Then people wind themselves up with stuff that was never said until Apple has to come out and say something again, and then people again miscomprehend it and so on.

Jesus H Diaz knock it off.
