Steve Jobs personally recalled mine. I had to send it to his home address (to be stealthy) and then he sent a new one back to me, a white one, in fact.

No, seriously, the only recall that is going to happen is when you get a dropped call while talking to CS.

everyones "heard" or "has a friend". whenever something gos on the mainstream news all the know it alls feel the need to just make crap up to push more wrong info out there for people. the amount of people telling me "the iphone 4 has way too many problems" but have never even touched one makes me sick.

Why can't Apple put tape on the inside of the iPhone 4?

If tape fixes the antenna problem, why can't Apple put some tape along the lower right corner on the inside of the phone? That way you wouldn't have an ugly piece of tape on the outside. And some of us don't want to use a bumper/case.

The only way tape helps is by stopping your hand from bridging the antenna. If your hand is bridging it from the inside, you really are holding it wrong :D

It's the fact that you are touching the antenna (which is the metal strip).
putting tape on the outside stops you touching it, putting tape on the inside, what's that going to achieve? you are still going to be touching the strip.

:)

Take 3rd Grade science and find out why.

wow, I don't know what they teach in 3rd grade these days, but back in my 3rd grade years I don't recall learning about antenna designs nor how to prevent RFI/electric conduction theory from human skin contact

Just to clarify, simply the fact that you are touching the metal strip does not cause a significant problem. The much publicized issue involves touching the metal strip in one specific place (the lower left corner where black bar is between the two antennas.)

I haven't dropped a call since owning this phone on June 23rd. I see no need for tape inside of my phone.

Yeah I thought that would go without saying.

They teach you conductivity and thats all you need to know. You don't need to understand antennas to understand

Antenna through finger through other antenna equal iphone dont work!!!111oneone

This is why you don't work at Apple.

Why the iPhone won't get a antenna redesign.

It's really quite simple. Apple won't be able to refuse warranty exchanges for existing customers. They might as well do a recall if they are going to redesign the iPhone 4 because every person with an existing iPhone will want an exchange. It will be a huge mess.

The iPhone 4 is a great phone. The media and all the tech bloggers have simply had a field day with Apple and the so called antennagate since launch day. This entire issue has been made much bigger than it ever should have.

I agree. Unfortunately the uproar was, and continues to be fueled to raging proportions by Apple. Instead of insulting the public with "you're holding it wrong", Steve Jobs arrogant & flippant comment, he could have chosen to demonstrate understanding of the public frustration. Then Apple could have used a more open, reassuring approach. This would have put the issue to bed in just a few days. Personally I think Steve Jobs is a brilliant guy. It's a shame he has let the success of Apple go to his head. He now acts like " The Man". An arrogant pompous CEO. There's no need for it.*

I agree with your point. Unfortunately we're dealing with human nature. It has nothing to do with the iPhone, as one see's this behavior everywhere.

Apple only does warranty exchanges when something is wrong with your hardware, and even then, you'll only get whatever it is you're exchanging. If you were to take 6 month old defective iPhone 3GS to the Genius Bar today, they'd give you a new (probably refurbished) iPhone 3GS, not an iPhone 4.

There's absolutely nothing to stop Apple from releasing a new version of the iPhone before June 2011, whether it's an iPhone 4S (revised hardware) or iPhone 5 (redesigned hardware), and if they did current iPhone 4 owners would not be entitled to an exchange (assuming they're outside their 30 day purchase window).

All that said, I believe that if something like that were to happen, Apple would probably offer some sort of compensation to current iPhone owners.
