There's absolutely nothing to stop Apple from releasing a new version of the iPhone before June 2011, whether it's and iPhone 4S (revised hardware) or iPhone 5 (redesigned hardware), and if they did current iPhone 4 owners would not be entitled to an exchange (assuming they're outside their 30 day purchase window).

Other than the fact they're selling the current design as fast as they can make them, I agree with you. But I still can't see a truly compelling reason for them to change the design with the current circumstances.

And, The return percentage is as low as 0.54%, so a silent minor fix shouldn't be a big problem for apple.

Which is a reason in itself why a recall or redesign makes no sense, and won't happen. Why reinvent the wheel to begin with if the need isn't there?

Just sayin' since, you know, you DID bring up the low return rate...

We're in total agreement...I don't necessarily think they will release a new iPhone revision or redesign before next June, but my point is that they could. As I said in another post, Apple is almost certainly working very hard on the antenna issue for the next version of the iPhone, and if they're able to solve the issue with new hardware before June 2011, they should; no reason to slow down innovation just because current iPhone 4 owners might whine.

You're buying a phone, not a 12 month license to own the newest iPhone.

When a company recognizes and comes under spotlight for a serious design fault, you're telling me they will continue for another year, without addressing issue?

They're "covering" the issue with free cases.

Agree. And then, they'll slowly deploy the fixed models after sept 30th without bumpers.

By then, every one will have forgotten about antenna cases AND NEW USERS WILL BE HAPPY. Thats their master plan

Have returned mine!

Have been an iphone user from day one. Was delighted to upgrade to my 3g, and then skipped the 3gs and to be honest was so looking forward to the iphone 4.

Beautiful phone........ however it did drop calls! It strikes me that a fair few people seem to think that there is no problem with the iphone 4. If there was no problem there would be no offer of free cases.

As for a recall? Well Mr Jobs has clearly stated if you dont like it .... return it.... hence no recall.

I was reluctant to let mine go......but the fact that the signal was so poor whilst the courier was talking to me on the phone made me realise that i was definetley doing the right thing.

£599 is alot of money to spend for a product that i wasn't entirely happy with. Add the bumper case ? Personally, no thank you......

Would you buy an expensive watch and put a cheap strap on it?

just my opinion before all you all start ranting! Back on the 3g......no signal issues.... i shall wait till the problem is fixed :)

Does anyone have pictures of this? I'm really interested as I've returned my iPhone 4 due to the signal problems and I'm really hoping they fix it very soon because I loved the iPhone 4.

I think it's rather funny that it's Apple themselves that are keeping this controversy alive. By pointing the finger at other smartphone makers, they've made it clear that every claim made at WWDC was fabricated. Now Apple is more than happy to be amongst the "average phones".

I do think it will be interesting to see if anything transpires by their self assigned deadline for the final word.

Is it at ALL possible that a defect in the manufacturing process would cause a short for some people and not others?

Is it at ALL possible that Apple could change the interior to fix the issue while the exterior looked identical?

Instead of insulting the public with "you're holding it wrong", Steve Jobs arrogant & flippant comment,

I guess we should ignore that he didn't actually say that quote. And that the comment that it was paraphrased from was not to the public, but part of a private email exchange.

If you really believe what you say, why do you have to make stuff up to defend it?

TOP REASONS Why Apple Will Be Revising the iPhone 4 Antenna Design Very Soon

Top Reason why Apple WILL release a fixed (not a total design over haul) version soon. Just a few quick thoughts.

I: REAFFIRMING CONSUMERS CONFIDENCE IN THE BRAND.
Don't argue.. It's a fact. Users are already staying away from the iP4 because of the widely known reception troubles. The Sooner that Apple fixes the iPhone 4, the sooner users will become more confident in buying the iPhone 4. If they do wait till next year, by that time iPhone 4 will have lost all of its respect and potential user base.

II: PROTECTING THE BRAND IMAGE
The iPhone 4 brand image is quickly tarnishing away. It has come down to the point of "do you have any antenna issues with your iPhone 4?". It's spreading like wild fire via word of mouth. Pretty soon most of the users will associate the iPhone 4 with antennagate issue and not for it's brilliant design and superior components.

III: RETURN PERCENTAGE IS VERY LOW.
Apple will surely not risk with losing new customers for the sake of not annoying it's existing customers.

IV: IT'S NOT WORTH THE NEGATIVE PUBLICITY.
Would Apple really continue with the production of flawed design for another year?

Btw, The iPhone 4 free case program is an interim solution to 'calm down' the users before they come up with a full-fledged fix.

Whatever makes you feel better I guess but you are sadly mistaken. With a 3 week wait on a iPhone just in the US it sure looks like they are having an issue with confidence in the brand.

Right, Apple is going to perform a major redesign of the antenna structure and release it very quickly, without going through an extensive testing phase. Keep dreaming.

They can't make these phones fast enough, they're selling like hotcakes. Try talking to the general consumer, not the vocal minority of tech nerds.

And they will issue a recall or replace the millions of iPhones already sold or leave themselves open to legal action? No

Doesn't point 3 imply there IS NO NEED for a redesign? comeon op

There will be no redesign until the next iphone. You can bet the bank.

Why? testing, retooling, redesigning all take time and cost alot more money for a problem that really isn't there, not to mention the legal consequences (of existing users lawsuits) and further bad PR

I really doubt a "revised" model will come out soon. How many have they sold already?

I'd be happy with the new revised model too, if there was one.

Nobody cares about the antenna issue anymore. It's been discussed and accepted for the non-issue it is. Will you please stop making these flame threads. If you don't want to buy an iPhone or can't afford it, that's your problem. Please don't add trash to these forums for another month.

Edit: thank God the thread was merged almost instantly. I reported him as well.
