I know that, but they didn't release any of it's features to the public, did they?

There have been bits and pieces of information released about some features but I don't think anything has been consider official from google.

I do have to say though, the IPhone has almost a perfect screen size. I might entertain the idea of a 4" screen depending on the size of the device surrounding it. I guess I would have to go in store and demo it to get a feel but I think generally the IPhone's got the perfect amount of screen real-estate for a phone.

Actually a gyro isn't odd now, because of Wii. Both companies (and no doubt others) are following Nintendo's lead in this case.

Wii uses: built-in accelerometers and infrared detection. Doesn't seem to be using gyro.

FAIL troll is fail as usual.

I realize that, but I don't like the feeling of "Oh, a new phone is out. Looks like mine has been outdated again." With the iPhone, it only gets a refresh once a year, giving you complete piece of mind that you have the best iPhone currently on the market, (if you know what I mean). Android gets it at least three times a month. :D

True. You must remember that most people don't really care to have the best or latest phone. A lot of regular consumers are happy with their purchases until something goes wrong with them. Sadly this time for some iphone users that came too quick. I honestly don't think the average apple user desires the "peace of mind" of getting outdated. They desire the peace of mind that it just works.

This is the same argument we have had. MAC or Pc. Pcs are cheaper and much more powerful at a lower price. You buy the mac for the OS experience. The smart phone wars are on. WM7 looks great as does the upcoming RIM os revision. In all honesty apple needs to refresh more often to keep up in the coming years. But they probably won't. Therefore this dance and these kind of topics are here to stay forever :(

Blasphemy!

What could be more important than having the newest and most powerfull mobile device on the market, oh, your just kidding...... I get it now :)

Hey I-Peoples

*snip*

Tegra is not a proven smartphone platform. It's only PMP design win was the Zune HD. It's unclear how successful Tegra 2 can be in the smartphone market. A good part of its performance advantage is due to it presumably being the first SoC on the market using the cortex A9 processor. However, if you'll notice, the Adamo and Boxee Box, both of which feature Tegra 2, have been delayed from their previous release dates. It's power profile is also unproven for smartphones. Nvidia's expertise in GPUs does not necessarily transfer to mobile SoC success. Moreover, you've stated nothing to prove 2 GHz is a feasible frequency. No ARM roadmap out there talks about anything more than 1.5 GHz right now.

It's kind of a moot point as I'm sure gyro was a planned upgrade in Apple's succession to help make the upsell. (accelrometer -> compass -> gyro)

Understood and agree. :)

Again, there are not that many iPhone 4 users having problems. I'm not one of them. Lots of people aren't. Stop trying to blow it up out of proportion. And yes, Apple will and does refresh (more than once a year). :apple:

You're probably right. ;)

I didn't say all. I said some. Is that not true? We expect perfection from apple products as does steve jobs. Its not out of proportion. The phone isn't the problem. Its the way apple handled the problem. They are the problem is so notorious now. If they just said that there are some phones that have problems in the first place and they are fixing it immediately then we would all be happy. No one likes a cover up or the appearance of one.

no cell phone needs a 2GHz processor OR flash in my opinion. the iPhone 4 and the EVO should be where smartphones max out in my opinion.

Yes. Let's stifle progress!

Your post reminds me of the quote by Bill Gates that said computers would never need more than 640K of memory... or whatever that quote was

Yeah, it was more like "640K should be enough for a while".

The misquote came from a wry comment Gates made in a speech looking back at his and his engineers' prediction that increasing capacity from 64K to 640K should be enough to last ten years.

As it turned out, 640K was only good for about half that time before people wanted more. Thus Gates was making fun of predictions about how much memory is enough.

So you're right... it's been proven over and over that what we think is enough today, will be seen as ridiculously small in the future.

Regards.

I think it's great with this iPhone vs. Android competition. They have to constantly keep trying to beat the other for us consumers. With Android being on many different makers, they have to try to keep "one-upping" each other to try to have the best Android handset. This results in smartphone technology exponentially increasing. When the next iPhone comes along, it has to improve much more than when it was first released because of the huge increase in competition from Android. I'm sure by the time the next iPhone comes along, it'll be a lot better than the iPhone 4. I believe that it'll look like what the iPhone 3G or 3GS is now.

I hope no one is trying to bash progress in the smartphone industry. If everyone did just one new phone a year, it would be significantly slower. Just this January, the 1Ghz chip was introduced and now by this December, there will be a 2Ghz chip. By June 2011? Who knows? All we know is that phones from a year from now will be much faster, hopefully much more efficient, more versatile, and so forth. This will include Android and iPhone.

If anyone thinks that Apple is not closely paying attention to what's happening in the Android world is completely oblivious.

There's a tiny grain of sand of truth to Josh's comments. As it stands now, the need of a 2Ghz processor is a little questionable given the power, and heat issues related to faster processors. That's not to say that the iPhone and Evo are pinnacles of phone developments. In fact the droid X has already displaced the EVO there. Nor should we stop all R&D because the iPhone and EVO are perfect.

We are increasingly relying on our handheld devices more and more, and so the power of those devices will need to increase. Plus people crave better designs as their needs evolve. People slam flash on a phone, but it increases the number of websites I can visit and enjoy exponentially, it does not dramatically alter my battery life and its stable - at least it was on my old Nexus (I'm waiting for my DX to get 2.2)
