You probably aren't the only one but most people who aren't impressed with it are Apple haters or they're just argumentative.

There are some aspects that the phone doesn't quite satisfy me with but I'm still eager to get one. In many ways Apple's right 'they've done it again' but they also left some stuff out so that the iPhone 4S will get those. That's how the business is.

I think your very right. Im definitely not an Apple hater, and I don't try to be argumentative. Maybe im just spoiled by Apple. I feel like they jumped the shark when they released the first iPhone.

Really? My BB curve for work feels like any phone from 5-8 years ago. Nothing special except easy work email retrieval (as long as your employer has the email server running). Boring phone with clumsy OS. I can't imagine the bold is so superior to the curve so that it rivals the '4'. Well good luck, though I bet you'll be back.

Funny. I'm itching to issue marching orders to my Bold 9000 and get an iPhone. The BlackBerry OS/Interface is just....wow (not the good kind)

I don't know if the iPhone 4 impresses me or not - I still haven't had the time to watch the presentation. But from what I've read about it so far, this phone has nothing that -- I -- need or want. I'm perfectly happy with my iPhone 3G, and even that phone already has a bunch of features that I simply don't need.

For example, I still don't know why people want a camera in their phones. I own a DSLR - that defines photography for me. I don't care about toy cameras at all.

Multitasking. Wonderful. But who the heck needs Twitter and Facebook apps in the background? (Of course I have a need for multitasking in my phone. It's called Alarm Clock Pro and that little app would seriously benefit from multi-tasking so that it could run in the background where it belongs.)

Anyway. I'm sure the iPhone 4 is a nice evolutionary step ahead, but nothing revolutionary or breathtaking. I simply don't feel the need to dump my 3G for it. I might be in the market for a new phone by the time the iPhone 6 will be released, but definitely not now.

Rob honestly i think you should wait until launch at least.
You seem to be curious as to what else is out there but, you've had an iPhone for a while now. . . I hear alot of "I'm leaving the iPhone. . . I'm back with the iPhone" stories just because the iPhone UI is "Better".

I don't know, it could be your personal preference right now but I would at least try it out and wait for the reviews. Or go and test it for yourself and then decide.

I remember those times when I didn't have a smartphone where the only thing that made me cheer when I was looking at my phone when I was bored was the icon of new text messages; and most of the time that icon wasn't there.

So I'm glad that I have a toy in my pocket.

If I may, if iPhone 4 isn't impressive than, nothing is[mobile-technology-wise].

The only thing I like about the Bold (over the iPhone) is the fantastic battery life on the Bold. Of course, that could be due to the fact that actually using the Bold is so soul-crushingly awful that I only use it for email and the rare phone call.

I don't mean to sound churlish, but what new features were you looking for that would impress you? The ability of the phone to wipe your butt for you while bluetoothing the toilet to flush itself? This is a beautiful device, and finally leaves me questioning what they could come up with for next year. I just don't understand how one could NOT be impressed.

I was sick of the iPhone, got a BB on ebay last week, received it supposedly brand new, turned on for like one minute, I fiddled for like 30 seconds, realized how much easier iPhone is, and sent back the BB cause it wouldn't even turn on and I'm in the process of getting a refund. iPhone truly is much easier to do anything I realize now. Only downside: battery.

That goes for any smartphone. When the firsts mobile with chromatic display came out had the same battery life.

I just mean the look and feel is like a cartoon or a child's toy, and its getting old to me. I wish they would let you customize it a little more without having to JB.
Cartoon or a child's toy.....oh come on. I would much rather have a large screen than it be taken up by keyboard real estate. I could care less about customization, it's the apps that make the iPhone much more functional. Sure most of the apps are just games, but many are very useful. I like that my cell phone can also be a Police/Fire/aircraft scanner and do so much more than be just a phone. The apps truly made the iPhone so popular.

i have been there, switched twice, was gonna switch again, but i realized i would always switch back

iphone OS, you don't know what you have until its gone

Evo is just a pipe dream, blackberry, i want to scream thinking about that crap device

iPhone 4, awww what a thing of beauty

why am i buying it though,

1. better camera, that is primarily it, i want to keep my dang pics

nope ............ just you

Not just him, I'm quite underwhelmed by it too.

It's a good phone, but I don't know, I'm just not blown away at all, it's just a small evolutionary step forward, not revolution all over again like Apple are making it sound.

Let me go over those 8 steps...

1. Design - Great, love it, great design.

2. Screen - Great again, not Super AMOLED but still nice, high resolution.

3. A4 - Probably underclocked, still only 256MB RAM, still the same old SGX535, still 32GB bump in anything except for the CPU, and probably a slight bump in that too, not the full 1GHz. Not impressive.

4. Gyroscope - Meh, I don't care about this at all, but still I guess it's good to be some new technology in it.

5. Camera - Great, 5MP + HD video. 5MP is just the right size IMO and I like that Apple has the right idea about improving the sensors instead of blowing up megapixels. When Apple does something the industry takes note, hopefully this ends the silly megapixel race. 5, 8 absolute MAX.

6. iOS - Folders, Wallpapers, half assed multitasking... how about adding built in SIP support, full bluetooth support, mass storage, free navigation, widgets, themes....

7. iBooks - Sigh.......who cares!? I guess Steve does, it's great for making money, but completely irrelevant to me personally, nothing beats the actual book.

8. iAds - Are you serious? this is terrible. You know that the devs will implement them in all of their applications and keep the prices the same, the consumer does not benefit at all, in fact it's detrimental, I don't want ads in my applications.

One more thing.....

9. FaceTime - Useless gimmick that no one will use, many mobile phones have had those long time ago, it's a gimmick.

So, yes, overall not quite impressed, really underwhelmed by the phone specs. If you are a general consumer, love flashy ads, books and pretending to be the Jetsons* I guess the iPhone 4 is a superb upgrade for you. But if you like the specs... it's not that great... iOS has not been really advanced and it's pretty much the same in specs. If it had CPU at full 1GHz, 512MB RAM, SGX540, 64GB and the iOS had some useful functions added, I'd be impressed.

* Must have wifi.

My post exactly! Once you get accustomed to the UI it's hard to adapt to others.

I'd definitely say it's probably going to prove revolutionary. I would guess in the next year we'll see other phones mimicking the "metal-frame antenna system" in one way or another if it proves successful for Apple/AT&T.

Multitasking is about a lot more than having Twitter and Facebook running, but I can even understand those - say you have one of them up and need to hop back to email or the browser for a link or whatever, then jump back into the other app. Keeping them running is a lot faster than opening and closing them completely. It's little things like that that will make multitasking a must-have for even the smallest things.

I understand why pros and even "prosumers" don't care about phone cameras, but for most people, just having a camera on them at all times is a really great treat. I too would love to have a really nice camera on me at all times, but I just can't do it. Once I got my Iphone 3G, I had a camera with me all the time and found myself taking pictures all the time. Not of particularly special, photographic moments, but of things I simply wanted to grab there and then. "Look at that ridiculous car" type moments. And now it appears the camera is almost "complete point and shoot replacement" good enough. Almost. My Panasonic Lumix still has an incredible zoom and macro that the Iphone may never beat, but for everything else . . . I don't know, I'm thinking it may be the go-to. I am almost certain my Flip is going up for sale as soon as I get my Iphone 4! I don't think there's anything "toy" about the Iphone - not the 3G, definitely not the 4. Remember the famous saying, "The best camera is the one that's with you."

Funny enough the Alarm Clock Pro isn't going to run like you want in the background cause there is no API for that.

Apple's "elegant solution" isn't real multitasking at all.

Couldnt agree more with your post!!! Basically some less user friendly updates would have been nice. I dont mean make it harder to use, but open it up a little.. you know? More customization etc. Let us use the crazy good technology that is packed into this little thing.

Apple comes out with the best stuff, and has some of the best designs, but theyre sooo reluctant to give the user full control. (ie flash, mass storage, themes)

Yea, its just a glorified shortcuts solution. Why not just press the home button?

colour me 50% impressed. i think for all those indie filmmakers and youtubers, this and iMovie iPhone is going to be to die for.

nice OS 4 thingies. nothing we havent seen before aside from FaceTime. what i want to know is where is the unified documents folders for easy app file sharing and file uploading! battery issues? OS stability? i dont know. i'm bitter about this.

anyway, that's my rant.

anyone notice that Steve seems much happier like his normal self in this Keynote rather than the iPad one? new product jitters? :p
