Disappointed it still has only 32GB, 256RAM, SGX535 GPU, and the CPU will most likely be underclocked aswell.

As for the software side, nothing that exciting, could not care less about the video calls, it needs some actually useful stuff like SIP integrated into the OS, free turn-by-turn navigation, mass storage support, full bluetooth utilization transferring files etc..., the Alarm app needs to be improved, needs widgets, theme customization(themes).

Apple provides lots of flash(pun intended) but very little substance. Symbian is still much more powerful under the UI than the iOS.

A buddy at Apple just sent this to me. He's excited and says Steve was all giddy.

Hey XXXXXX,

It has come to my attention that several other phones have stuff that we don't. This makes me a bit sad, but in sticking with the current business model, we will continue to introduce new features slowly (despite the fact that they could easily be integrated into our next iPhones).

Here is a short list:
1) Flash - Let's just introduce it in limited functionality, as to save face. Actually, let's make it so it's there... but NOT there (get it?). Have PR come up with something about us not wanting to, but having to have this for some very scientific reason which people must just say "Ohhh... yeah makes sense". The sheep always follow!

2) Ability to modify color of text in SMS - This is brilliant. People will go nuts over this and will be so excited! I'll make this feature #3 in my WWDC keynote. I can hear the applause,,,

3) New color APIs for SMS - We can claim these as "all new APIs", Devs are going to be drooling, and it really makes it seem like we worked our butts off on this thing!

4) Camera Button - People are going to *freak*. We'll add 1 button to the side, used to take pictures. We'll claim we invented the technology allowing for this, as well as calling it brilliant engineering. Selling point #1? I THINK SO!

5) New Icons - Let's somehow modify the current stock app icons. I want them shinier. I like things that are shiny!

I also have some other changes, but we can talk in person. Tell me what you think!

Toodles,
Steve

June 2011 can't come soon enough! Can't wait!

Steel has a significantly higher strength than Ally does, so with clever design (as they have done here), you can create a very light frame which is also very strong. OK, benefits for something this size aren't huge over Ally, but certainly on par with.

Stainless steel is incredibly hard, much more so than ally or plastic. The glass front and back would also, by nature (generally speaking, unless we go into very high grade engineering plastics), be much harder than any plastic you would get in a consumer device.

Elastic deformation, ok glass and steel aren't going to be better than ally and plastic, but to be perfectly honest, for a phone this is a very small consideration. An ally and plastic phone isn't going to be able to elastically deform enough to save it from a high fall any more than a glass and steel one is.

Tolerances of CNC machined stainless will be just as good as machined ally and moulded plastic. Ditto with the glass (as it is essentially just a flat plate, no fancy shape).

In terms of reception, not only is the entire of the steel frame an aerial, but it is a very small area and the large ceramic front and back would be very radio transparent. Again, just as good as an ally/plastic phone.

Enjoy your new phone, whatever it may be.

Good post, and I agree with you big-picture. My point wasn't so much to argue that one is better than the other, but to highlight the uninformed assertions being thrown around. If the poster to whom I was originally replying had posted with something along the lines of what you did, my attitude would have been drastically different ;) With all that said, I was kind of hoping he would take the bait and try to BS it...

Can you imagine elastic deformation actually saving a phone from damage? I have visions of an iPhone embedded in a superball :)

Bye iPhone hello Evo

honestly I was not impressed, of course it has better specs than a one year old iPhone, but it does not has better specs than the competition. I did not get the evo on launch because I was expecting to see something newer on the iPhone 4. Of course it has good specs, but I really was hoping they show a iPhone with bigger screen at least 3.7 like the incredible. But nope, every other spec, is shadowed by the compition.
Today I went to radioshack and reordered the EVO, should get it Wednesday.

i was interested in the evo only because of sprint pricing not because of a checklist of features

i am sticking with iphone because they clearly do their features better than anyone else in the world

new iphone 4 because i want the better camera, that is all

what would i have like to see in the new iPhone that is found in the evo..

hmmmm, not the kickstand, and since i don't even know what any of those other evo features mean....

nothing

You'll love it....I do.

Hey I love my iphone

But, I was really getting tired of my small screen, the incredible has a great screen, the Nexus One has a nice screen and the Evo has an awesome screen. I already tried it. And loved it. It has the 3G and the 4G where available. The iPhone just has 3G. That's it. I was seeing the keynote, and the 3GS had better signal strength than the Iphone 4, that was embarrassing. Imagine how it will perform in the real world. They were trying to make the iPhone 4 out perform the 3GS, and that didn't happen.
Like I said I had the 3G and now I have the 3GS, but the 4 does not impress me, I already reordered the EvO and getting it on Wednesday .
By the way did anybody here get the Evo, how do you like it?

Haha, fair play! Apologies actually if any of my reply sounded a bit narky, I was at work and so went into engineer mode, but probably came off sounding a bit like an ass!

To be honest, in a device the size of a mobile phone, the relative strengths etc of a material won't really make a huge difference so it's more down to aesthetics and ability to mass-manufacture than outright performance. But it is good to see Apple going down the route of some elegant industrial design with the unibody MacBooks and iPhone 4. CNC machining aluminium or steel is a lot more expensive than injection moulding plastic, but the results are definite robustness and feel of quality (for example, quite how unbendable a unibody MacBook feels) and so gives a great sense of 'premium' which, to me, iPhone 4 exudes!

Anyways...I'm going into engineer mode again so I'll stop and patent your superball case idea.....I reckon it could be a winner........well........

iPhone 4 Doesn't Impress Me... Anyone Else?

Ive had a 3G for a while and am obviously sick of the slowness. But I think Im bored with the iPhone and OS in general.

And really, the iPhone 4 doesn't seem that impressive. So it has a better screen, multitasking, facetime, and a gyroscope. All things I don't really care to have.

I think im done owning a toy/media device. Ill probably just buy the Blackberry Bold 9700 (a really solid "phone").

Make sure you are able to return the Bold if you don't like it. I was issued one by work and I want to fling it against a wall every time I hit one of the many inconsistent UI behaviors.

LOL... will do. I just like the reception, call quality, and leanness of the email, texting, and contacts... Cant decide if ill miss the iPhone browsing though. Its the only internet phone option in my opinion. But I think I can live without it.

I love it when people throw this in. Priceless.

And besides RIM isn't trying to find new ways to become more relevant in the Media Department. :End Sarcasm:

Furthermore back to the question at end . . . It impresses me and that's why I'm buying it.

the iphone 4 is one of the best phones being produces by apple thus far!!

and i get goosebumps when i see the vids and pics!!

I had a BB 9700- worse os ever.. so complex to do simple tasks &very poor email management..

Yeah the Blackberry web browser is the worst interface and worst application I think I've ever used. And I dislike their entire OS, especially compared to the iPhone. And wait until you see the screen and speed of the new phone in person.

Maybe you missed the whole updated antena feature? May want to wait and see if then phone works better on the iPhone 4.

No I didnt hear about that. Is it supposed to be better?

You talk about being bored with the iPhone, yet you think the Blackberry isn't boring.....really?

I just mean the look and feel is like a cartoon or a child's toy, and its getting old to me. I wish they would let you customize it a little more without having to JB.

You probably aren't the only one but most people who aren't impressed with it are Apple haters or they're just argumentative.

There are some aspects that the phone doesn't quite satisfy me with but I'm still eager to get one. In many ways Apple's right 'they've done it again' but they also left some stuff out so that the iPhone 4S will get those. That's how the business is.

so you're comparing the reception, call quality, and leanness of email between a blackberry and a new phone that hasn't been released or tested yet?

You know what SMS and Contacts are like on the iPhone, obviously (personally, I think it's much better than a blackberry, but that's me), but the eMail is all new, at least give it a shot

And the reception and call quality is (Apple claims) much better on the iPhone 4 due to their new engineering for the device (stainless steel rim as an antenna). At least let the phone come out and get reviewed first.

So you want something that looks like it's designed in the 90s instead? LOL.
