The original iphone was released in 2007. So unless your referring to an imported phone from korea. No US phone at that time had a 5MP.

Lets see...Yeah the original iphone had 2G but that time 3G was still in the process of being rolled out on cingular's network. So i don't know what 3.5G network that was rolled out to millions of POPs in 2007 your refering to.

The iPhone was released worldwide, not just in the US. Plenty of phones had 5MP cameras in 2007 in Europe. Please don't be so ignorant.

If you don't like the notification system jailbreak or develop a newer one.

I'm not complaining - just saying that they are lagging behind others. Notifications that pop up in your face and distract you are so primitive. Unless Apple begins to support jailbreaking, the ability to add more features by jailbreaking cannot be used as a plus point.

Multitasking is moot because you have unless your going to complain now that you have. That it took so long to get.

I was using that to demonstrate my point that Apple are usually behind. They even said it themselves: "I know we're late to the party"

End of story is that the iphone sells and it sells good. So dislike it or not because people buy it.

And BTW its not Apple ARE always behind. The correct wording would be Apple is always behind :)

Don't be a pedant. It doesn't matter if I say "is" or "are."

I too am a bit disappointed. Multitasking is great and all but like others, I truly was hoping for more in the notification system and lock screen information department.

During the Q&A Engadget seemed to ask about this and got a pretty vague answer. If anyone missed it here it is...

11:22AM We just asked Steve and co. about the lack of anything that can keep track of a timeline for something like a Twitter or IM app. Scott says that the new save states for applications will be much better than the current situation. Steve also said that they stand behind push notifications and still think it's the right choice for this platform. Then we asked about widgets or glanceable information and why it hasn't been implemented on this platform or the iPad. "Apple sort of pioneered the idea of glanceable information like widgets and it seems to me you've gone to great lengths to avoid something like that in this new OS. Can you tell me a little bit about why you've decided that? With something like the iPad, it seems perfect opportunity where you have a lot of real estate." Steve: "We shipped on Saturday, and rested on Sunday." (lots of laughs) We pressed and asked if it was possible. Steve: "Anything is possible."

Apple plays catchup...

Nothing my jail broken phone cant already do. Ill never get rid of myfi since it tethers my iPad so perfectly. Waiting for a 4.0 JB. Kinda disappointed.

What about people who have their iPhone protected by a pass code? If that was the case, you wouldn't want the names of people listed on the lock screen for all to see. Maybe just "2 missed calls" or "1 new voice mail".

That's what the settings app is for ;) Users can control what to display and the amount of detail.

What a joke. Same old look and not a single change that I haven't been using with backgrounder and Proswitcher.

I can not wait to get my EVO

Congrats and come back and when you get it im sure you will be disapointed in the battery life. Considering that 4G will be more of a battery hog than 3G ever was.

go ask an average person, the iPhone doesnt have the wow factor anymore, its 3 years old, hitting 4 years now, not only that, everyone and their moms owns an iphone or ipod touch

so yes, the i say the iphone OS is getting boring to the average user and the phone geeks too

you dont get that WOW IS THAT AN IPHONE anymore, because its OLD, which isnt the reason why you should buy an iphone, but people are looking for something different, thats why android is rising up

I don't know about you, but whenever I pull out my iPhone people say they wish they had one, or that I clearly have the best phone out of the group. Granted, no one else has a smart phone, but I think there is still has most of its wow factor, even if it is mainly from brand recognition. No reason for Apple to stray away from that.

Apple ARE always behind, there's no denying that.

They had a 2MP camera when most phones had a 5.

Wrong.

They had a 2G phone when 99% of phones supported 3.5G.

Wrong.

They still have an intrusive notification system.

Very true.

They're only just adding multitasking support when it's been out for years.

True, but anyone will tell that early Android models with 128MB RAM sucked at multitasking and so did the first two generations of jailbroken iPhones.

Yup. With my jailbroken phone, I'd be "downgrading" if I decided to upgrade to 4.0.

Waiting to see what hardware upgrades come with the new iphone (screen, camera, casing) and than wait for a jailbreak crack to come out before I decide to buy a new iphone.

Otherwise, I'll stick with my current phone or really look into get the HTC EVO.

And i was not refering to europe. I was talking how many 5MP phones were released here in the US? And i'm not refering to unlocked grey market phones. I'm talking about a carrier released 5MP phone? There were no such phones released here in the US

Well Obvously

you are looking for attention or else you just be on the way to the Verizon store or where ever a buying your new phone! moving on with your life. Apple doesn't read whats here they listen but at the end of the day they do what they want. if your not happy go get your phone I promise there are forums Droid, Nexus and every other cell phone out there. Good luck live long and prosper. any way best to you! see you when you realize that at the end of the day Apple foes it better even though there are things we still want and need!

To me it's not true multitasking. I can't run an IM program without relying on Apple's push notification system. On top of that, push notification sucks because of the crappy notification system. Apple should copy WebOS or Android on notifications as they got it down.

I believe AT&T is getting the Nexus ? You can go with that. Me personally, I'm happy with multitasking and folders (though I will have to upgrade from a 3G), those were my main complaints. Widgets would be nice, having a lock screen, that showed all of my updates on the main screen would be nice, but for me, those are not deal breakers. I'm gonna look at the Nexus One, just because I always like to see what's out there, but I've had an iPhone since 2007, and it's my favorite gadget of all time. My contract is up in May, so I'll either get the new iPhone when it's released in the summer (I hope), or I will get a 3rd gen Touch and a different phone. I'm leaning heavily (95%) towards getting the new iPhone in the Summer. Good luck in whatever you chose.

This is what apple is going to put into its next iPhone and thats unacceptable, especially those with the 3G, since apple is basically "forcing" them to upgrade phones to allow for these "new" features.

Bloody good thing you never used Windows Mobile for any length of time. The vasty majority of devices there weren't even able to get point updates to O.S., let alone full version upgrades.

I know ... I was there for the whole run.

yeah, my favorite thing about android is the notifications bar

for push, im not sure if it just me, i am missing notifications sometimes when i played words with friends

So from your standpoint, people should go out and buy a newer, less established, less supported device because it is flashier and will get them noticed by others better? Have fun with that.

Yes the next Iphone will have an updated screen and better camera, but give me a break, looking at the same thing for 3 years in a row get's annoying and begs for a change.

I've been looking at the same windows and cursors on macs and PCs for the past 25 years.

I'm not exatly going crazy after 3 years of iPhones.

Wrong.

Wrong.

Let me guess, you're referring to the US only again? The iPhone was released worldwide, therefore I am comparing the technology of the iPhone with the technology of other phones WORLDWIDE, NOT JUST THE US.

And i was not refering to europe. I was talking how many 5MP phones were released here in the US? And i'm not refering to unlocked grey market phones. I'm talking about a carrier released 5MP phone? There were no such phones released here in the US

Yes, but what I'm saying is... the iPhone was not just released in the US, it was released elsewhere in the world. And the iPhone was technologically behind in some aspects when it was released compared to other phones in some of the countries it was released in. Two of those aspects were networking and camera.

Whilst the iPhone may have been technologically superior to almost every other phone in almost every way in the US, that was not the case in other places it was released. The Nokia N95, a 3.5G 5 megapixel camera phone, for example, was released in the UK in March 2007.

Wow. I never believed this day'd come (Or at least never thought of it). The iPhone is CLEARLY not the superior one anymore. Those who say different are clearly fanboys, or just plain ignorant.

yes that is what exactly im saying

sarcasm...

You people are never content.

Exactly! I've never been on a forum where so many people complain about cameras, camera quality, lack of cameras, number of megapixels, blah blah blah. Does every device made now have to have the most unbelievable camera ever or can we possibly use an actual camera when we need to take a better picture than something that will only be posted to facebook or sent by mms anyway?
