Hopefully 12 months from now it will be though.

In 12 months the single 64GB chip will be cost effective, the 128GB chip will have to wait.

That is quite remarkable. I just got an SSD with 80 G from Intel. I can't imagine that Toshiba now has a tiny memory chip that is bigger.

Not the same thing, Intel uses a special kind of NAND flash for SSDs.

I am not sure how much storage is needed for such a small screen device. I know you could fit a ton of uncompressed music on it, but I find video to be almost painful to watch on on iPhone.

I don't think this is a good move. I'd rather a MicroSD be put in.

That size of drive was okay for the iPods, and is okay for computers, but I think it's too much for a phone that will be 24/7 hours of use EVERYDAY. It's a PHONE, remember that. I think it'd be risking too much personal data because it's not just music - it's pictures, contacts, and all the perks.

With NAND its also about volume... Companies like Toshiba announce they've got 128GB chips but cost effective price and construction volumes usually take a good while to come down ...

We're talking Apple alone ordering millions a year, so until manufacturers have prices, yield rates and delivery capacity in place then we're stuck with current storage

This is how I see it.

2009 - 16 & 32
2010 - 16 & 32
2011 - 32 & 64
2012 - 32 & 64
2013 - 64 & 128
2014 - 64 & 128

And so on.

You forgot:

2007 - 4 & 8
2008 - 8 & 16

Capacities doubled year-on-year until the iPhone 4. It's also worth noting that 16 GB was released in Feb of 2008 inside the original iPhone.

I seriously doubt it will follow your prediction.

If it was primarily a phone, people would just get the free smaller ones that are offered. No, this is primarily an all-in-one media device that can also make phone calls. :) I probably use it about 1% of the time to make actual phone calls, about 5% of the time for texting, and the rest for audio, video, games and other apps. 128GB isn't even big enough for me.

It's not really, but having devices will large amounts of storage is the 21st century "overcompensating" version of the 20th century sports car. Having more storage than you really need vs. more HP than you could possibly take advantage of w/o ending up in jail.

If you use it as your 'go-to' video camera, I'm sure it won't take long to fill-up 128GB of storage with HD video.

But there is always a new type of file or more files that people want. Having more storage is just smart. Could any of us live with the 20GB of HDD storage that came on my Sage iMac? I know I couldn't. Within a year or so, I was straining at the limits of my 'tiny' hard drive.

Okay true, but that is an extremely expensive alternative. I have a hard time justifying the subsidized price, let alone the unsubsidized over inflated price.

But for what I was talking about in my post, I was still correct.

You may get early upgrade pricing. It's cheaper, and a lot less trouble, than paying an ETF. But if you already have a hard time justifying the subsidized price maybe you shouldn't be getting an iPhone.

No. No, you weren't.
