What does cloud computing have to do with data storage? Nothing.

The capability has always matched the need for more storage. I estimate that 1 TB on a device that is as mobile as the iPhone is today is probably 10-12 years out.

LOL by the time 1TB can be readily available in a handheld, we won't need phones anymore, humans will evolved to communicate telepathically.

I don't think there is any reason I would ever need 1TB on my phone. I have a 16 gig now that is not even full. With a 32 gig on the way I think my storage needs will be satisfied. I do put a lot of music on my phone, but my old iPod is still the main way I listen to music (in the car).

I suppose with 1TB I could fit a LOT of movies on it! I think the cloud based storage is going to be here a lot sooner than a lot of people realize. But as some people in this thread brought up- that does raise concerns regarding our data plans.

64GB iPhone 4

I really believe more memory is going to be needed with the new iPhone 4. That is why I am very disappointed there is no 64GB version for this release. I will be even more upset if it comes out within a year, because I have to start a new 2 year contract with AT&T if I buy the 32GB version now. And that new early termination fee is painfully steep to break and upgrade the phone.

I must be the only person in 100 that is perfectly happy with AT&T. I live in western Wisconsin and the towers that were once Cellular One have of course been bought out by ATT.

With Over 3 years of service I can count the number of dropped calls I have had on 1 hand. 1 HAND! This is why I have no issue with signing new contracts. I am always going to need a phone. And I am always going to want an iPhone. So guaranteeing myself to have both isn't even worth contemplating.

Before I switched to ATT, I had T-Mobile and a sidekick. I lost the thing 3 months after I got it on State Street in Madison. Best thing I ever lost.

There's only two chip spaces available, one is taken by the communications chip. A 64GB chip is either to expensive to be used, thus impractical, or doesn't exist.

there will be using 32nm processes next year that will double and quadruple the capacity of flash memory making ssd's micro-sd's and flash memory cheaper at a given previous capacity.

I think Apple can make a 64GB iphone happen right now. They must be in bed with AT&T and realize if they release upgrades in baby steps, we will pay. Even if it means we will pay the now hugely inflated early termination fee.

All I can say is if Apple does give us a 64GB iPhone next year, better also include a front facing flash as well.

Okay rant off.

I believe the only maker that has 64 GB chips in production is Toshiba and they are expensive and in tight supply. Right now, they are not practical for Apple to use. I wouldn't be surprised though to see a bump in February 2011 like they did for the original iPhone when they released a 16 GB iPhone in February 2008.

Cell phone flashes are useless. My dumb phone had a LED flash and pictures came out over exposed.

Hmm, I was able to order mine, although it was a little weird, trice the thickness of the 32 gig, and it comes apart into 2 equal pieces....lol
