I heard about it. but I didn't have a Costco membership, and the nearest one to me is an hour away. I ended up getting it through loyalty for $149, free shipping, and $20 preferred Android unlim. data.

I got mine at Walmart for $148.88, basically the same as you and they mentioned a Loyalty thing. I havent heard of it. What can you get from that? Ive been with T-Mobile nearly 7 years.

Loyalty is the retentions department, they can give you better deals on plans and phones, for example the regular unlimited data costs $30 the preferred for loyal customers is $20. To get to the loyalty department, when you call tmobile, and it asks what you want to do, say cancel and you will automatically be redirected to the loyalty department.

The best part is it is $350 even without the contract.

ATT Twitter

Regarding the above price, has anyone actually logged in to their AT&T account to see the no-commitment pricing on this phone now that it's available officially? It's actually showing up as $499.99, which is also what a local corporate store worker told me yesterday afternoon that it would be priced at. I knew that the $350 price sounded too good to be true.

Yeah...I'm showing $499 too.

I was just going to post that.

Free with a 2 year contract + Free Car Charger + Free Shipping

Bastards, just changed the price.

When you posted it was $229 with no contract, now it is back up to $499.

EDIT: The free charger is from the Walmart Wireless site: http://wsf4-walmart.letstalk.com/product/product.htm?prId=37337&corpId=522

Okay, so the no contract price just changed but I wonder why; perhaps they made a mistake? Well at least the contract price is still free. I'll go see it at att today and if I like it enough, I'll order it tomorrow morning from letstalk. I may hold onto the iPhone 4 and try them both out because I'm really not sure at this point which I want to stick with.

Samsung captivate lacks camera flash and front camera. They should have included both. What makes me even more angry is that front camera is available on GSM verision in Europe as unlocked. So, either AT&T or Samsung decided to feel that flash is not so important in 2010. Well, no buy for me.

Dont need flash. Night setting works great. Check out this post for an example.

I knew that $349 for a contract-free phone for that calibur was too good to be true. And when something like that happens, it never is accurate.

But since it happened to the Vibrant which was originally mistaken to go for $330, it was going to happen to the Captivate.

Just waiting for any unlocked Nexus One price to drop. If it could drop to $399 by Black Friday, I will try to snatch one up from their last shipment and around when Gingerbread is released.

I've considered Android but it's too damn laggy. What's the point of boasting about a 1 Ghz processor when it can't scroll nearly as smoothly as a first-gen iPod touch?

Why would you want one of those? They are going to be extinct soon and may not even get Gingerbread.

I know most here are calling that the Google phone and it is their baby but it is a HTC phone and actually the first Google phone was the G1, which is also an HTC phone. The N1 was supposed to be exclusive for T-Mobile but Google f-ed up and decided to sell it only on their website. Big mistake IMO and im suprised people buy it without being able to mess with it and pay the high price for it. I guess some people just dont mind tossing their money away. Not to say it isnt a good phone, im sure it is but now it is already going to be gone soon .

LMAO

May have been the case when it first came out. Not the case now and 2.2 is coming end of this month which is supposed to be a much faster system.

Havent you seen the video of the Galaxy S vs the iPhone4? Yeah, the GS was a bit faster. And that was running 2.1.

Went to check out the Captivate with my Iphone 4 box and receipt in hand, in the end, I'm still with my Iphone 4.

The Captivate is a great phone, but the retina display has spoiled me. While the Captivate had amazing vivid colors and was very bright, the whites were very blue/grey and the screen just looked pixelated, especially with text.

The Iphone 4 clearly has a better camera and flash is a nice addition. I really wanted to fall in love with it and try something different, but just couldn't do it. It's nice, but it's not better than the Iphone 4.

Iphone 4 has flash and captivate doesn't have flash. They are both 199 dollars. I may not use it all the times, but I would like it as an option. That's what fits for me.

It IS an option. You can set it to night mode and the pictures will come out fine. I guess you wont know what works for you til you try it out for yourself. Thats the thing, .....everybody is complaining it dont have a flash but if you dont need it because the night mode works fine, who cares? Not to mention the iPhone screen looks small compared to the Galaxy S after you mess with it for a while.

Did you even look at the samples i posted?

I don't think the N1 price will drop. It will be ceased to exist first. Get it while you can. Even at $529, it's not such a bad deal for what you get when you look at the prices of other phones. Remember, even the N1 outperforms the so-called Evo in some benches.

iphone beats Samsung Captivate IMO...

So I went to the AT&T store today to try out the newly released Captivate. There were things I liked about it - it feels like a quality phone so no issues with fit & finish, it's thin, and weight is about perfect. All of the navigation buttons are touch sensitive, so no worries about buttons becoming loose over time.

IMO, that is where the positives stop. It is obviously a faster phone than my 3G but when I watched the same YouTube video side by side on both phones, my 3G did so much better than the Captivate it wasn't even funny. I watched a news report and on my phone, I could see the text in the video whereas on the Captivate, no such luck. So that was very disappointing.

I don't see it as a big threat to any of the iPhones based on that alone. On a personal note, I'm not sure what I will end up doing - perhaps nothing, perhaps a S, or if I could get more comfortable with the 4, maybe that. But my hopes were dashed with the Captivate.

Samsung captivate runs Android OS and I like that OS because you get more customization and google map navigation with it.

Samsung captivate also has user replaceable battery and memory card.

Iphone 4 has none of these. I still haven't tested the youtube video on samsung captivate, but I prefer 4 inch screen over 3.5 inch screen. But, I am sticking with iphone 4 because it has larger apps available so far.

So I checked it out today, I knew it had the pentile display and was the same as the nexus one, but it's really noticeable when looking at texts and pictures on the web. Can't even compare it to an iPhone 4 and the two display models couldn't even get a gps lock. Very disappointed. This phone does not trump any android phones especially with all the AT&T crapware that is loaded onto it.

I might get one depending on what the dev community can do with it.

I think I will stick with my nexus one/iphone 4 combo because at least the nexus one gives me freedom of apps even if it has a pentile display.

Why compare? Apples had a long head start and has done an excellent job at refining both hardware & software. Android is young, and quite different. Apple locks you into iTunes. They use a special multi-pin connector, instead of the industry standard. It's all about what you prefer. I like them both for their individual strengths. So I bought one of each.

Why compare?
Agreed.

Its not that the iPhone is better then the Captivate, or vice versa. Different phones for different customers.

Personally, I don't like how AT&T forces you to use only the android marketplace to install applications. One of the benefits to android is the ability to extend the platform, by installing anything anywhere.
