I am sorry to be the one to tell you this, but the original Friends sucked as it was. It sucked all the way to the end, which did not come soon enough.

Why does everybody bring up Friends? I've seen the first 4 episodes of it and stopped because the humor was too lame.
You may have not liked it, but millions did.

As i'm only 19 and haven't worked in an office, but i thought it wasn't funny at all. There were a few chuckles, but i wasn't on the floor laughing...

If you had worked in an office it would probably ring a little more true to you. And I'm saying that from experience.

THe best office movie/show is still office space :D

Funny you'd like that then, since as you say, you've never worked in an office - it was an awesome movie and one of my favorites as well, just because it is soooo true. I actually just finished working on a movie with Stephen Root (Milton "the Stapler Guy", also from Dodgeball + NewsRadio) and he was the funniest guy on set, on and off the camera. Ryan Reynolds was actually the main star, but was nowhere near as funny and personable as Stephen.

Hmm, think I'm going to watch Office Space again, it's been a while... ;)

Millions of Friends fans

No argument there. With enough marketing and sex appeal anything can become popular. Just because millions watched it did not make the show good comedy. It was just another lame sitcom that cashed in on the dating-comedy that Seinfeld began.

Put in ugly fat people and see if the show is a hit on merits of its comedy. Actually, Friends with ugly co-stars would have made for more of an interesting show and probably funnier than what we had.

Friends Reunion Special

Just wait another ten years for the inevitable reunion special and you might get exactly what you are asking for.

its funny because everyone can relate to the traffic in the beigning and the fax machine jamming. ("Dam it feels good to be a gangsta")
Can i ask what your occupation is that you are working with him on a movie? Your profile says your an Electronics Engineer, care to explain...?

You hit the nail on the head with that one... :)

I guess I should update my profile... ;) I am actually a Corporate IT Project Manager, but yes, I received my degree in Electronics Systems Engineering with a Minor in Comp Sci. Since my everyday work is so analytical, technical and "professional", I like to bring balance to my life and compensate for that by doing the exact opposite in my spare time. As a result, I belong to an agency, do modeling and acting (hence the role in this production), go to the gym a lot, keep fit, play sports, etc., I love to write (am working on a screenplay right now), and I also play in the Symphony Orchestra here.

So, my interests and hobbies are very diverse and keep me busy. But, as I like to say, the path of excess leads to the tower of wisdom.

call me spoiled, but i was brought up on british comedy (father ted, red dwarf, the office, goodnight sweetheart, fools and horses etc) and pretty much everything i see from america is just not comparable. I almost said anything from abroad till i rememberd i quite like australian stuff and the germans are quite funny too :)

British comedy all the way for me im afraid

I hope you didn't miss out on some of the other greats - Fawlty Towers, Black Adder, Yes Minister... all classics as well.

Benny Hill - the funniest. Of course as a horny adolescent watching this show, I always was on the lookout for boobies.

Little Britain, Phoenix Nights (I'm from the north and beleive me there are clubs worse that the phoenix!), League of Gentlement (weird but I live 5 mins drive from the filming location (hadfield)), Alan Partridge....

why are there two "The Office" threads in the menu bar on the main page? Or, even two at all? Let's consolidate!

How about Coupling? A knock-off of Friends for the British viewing public, which bizarrely was then remade for the US...
Although Coupling was the same kind of theme, it wasn't trying to be Friends, it was it's own show, which worked.

"Help" on BBC2 is very funny and very perceptive: a shrink (Chris Langham at his best) dealing with a series of fruit-loops (all played by Paul Whitehouse (from the Fast Show - another corker)). Don't miss it if it arrives over there.

Man, I wish all of those bbc shows were over here. Does anyone know if one in the u.s. could get bbc through cable? On an utter side note, eDesign, how many hours of your day do you spend posting on forums? :D

I am a big time Seinfeld and British Humor fan but the office didn't do it for me .... I found it too boring. Yes I don't like scrubs too much either.

Anyone remember the Young Ones (ough, that old already), Ab-fab?

I watched last night, and the US version definitely pales in comparison to the British version. The part with them holding the cards to their foreheads was pretty funny, though.

Sorry but if it's not taped in front of a live audience or has a laugh track, it's not funny.

Well, I praised the first episode (US version), but I watched it last night, and it was rather anemic. If last night's show was also based on a British episode, I can't imagine even that being funny.

It was different, it was interesting, but it sure didn't have the LOL moments that the pilot had. If anything, I think last night's show might be useful in a real diversity class to demonstrate examples of racial insensitivity.

I did like the scenes where Michael adopted various racial affectations, e.g., doing a Chris Rock routine replete with all of Rock's African-American inflections, or talking to the Indian woman in a mock-Indian voice (and getting slapped in the face for it :D ). That guy's a piece of work.

BBC America is usually on one of the upper tiers of digital cable in America. If I'm not mistaken, Dish Network and DirecTV offer it too. When and if the original Office actually plays on BBC America, I don't know.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Another poorly done Americanized retread of a good British show. Stop! Stop it! The US version of "Men Behaving Badly" was awful enough OK?

Whew, I feel a little better now...
