ATT preorders in-store are done through direct fulfillment. Your box.. your name. So you get tracking for that.
Sure, they could fly one of the four (Polar) routes but that takes and ER configuration that lowers fuel load and freight weight. It also requres additional fees so it does not make good sense for Freight. It is a good way to get from Chicago / Newark / or Washington DC Non-stop but even those flights have to be on Extended Range (ER) configurations that low max takeoff load rates.
I have done the Chicago and Newark Polar routes to HK and Beijing but it is a very expensive ticket to ride.They are now using the new 777 ER units and the Freight versions of the 777 are in the works due to the fuel savings, stay tuned....

Good info.. I've taken the polar route from Newark to HK as well, so I was wondering the same thing.
My thoughts on why we might see our iPhones before the official release on Friday.
Apple.com Store claims delivers by 6/19... the wording points to seeing our phones no latter than that date.
The phones have cleared customs and are in the continental United States. Express shipments take no longer than a day after arriving to reach customers.
Like everyone has said.. Apple might delay the shipments, maybe they want to give everyone a fair shot at getting the iPhone on the same day, rather than making the people who wait in line at Apple and AT&T stores look like idiots.
Perhaps they are afraid that all of us smart individuals who purchased our iPhones online and know that time is money will drive down to our local Apple or AT&T stores the night before the iPhones are released and walk by the line showing off our cool new iPhones!

Also, my delivery date still says 6/17. My bad. I'm not expecting it to be delivered today but one can hope. Keep hope alive!!
I'm not seeing any more flights currently scheduled from AK to KY tonight. The phones have got to be on either flight 63 or 71. Looks like 81 might have been delayed indefinitely. 71 lands any minute now so we should all know within the next few hours where these things are at.

Just leave the pre-auth note on the door and they will drop it off for you without you needing to be home.
It'll be hard to sit at work knowing it's waiting for me at home. I'll be completely unproductive!
I can now pretty much confirm that the phones are on Flight 63. It's the only one from Hong Kong.
Flight 71 is from Guangzhou.
Flight 81 is from Shanghai.

Just got my Shipped Email from Apple. Delivers By Date shows June 23rd. However UPS tracking shows the 18th (UPS has only been wrong here once so ill believe them).
