Most likely answer is that they could not clear the transaction through AT&T or there was an issue validating your payment information. Only Apple will be able tell which issue tripped you up this time.

I ordered mine last Saturday and my tracking number appeared late Saturday night. It arrived at the AT&T store at noon on Monday. I just so happened to be there shortly after it arrived and was told I have to come back when they call me. I guess this is their way to avoid people having activation delays...

Thanks Dave. After waiting at the Apple store for 2hrs I still didn't get to purchase a 3GS. I talked to AT&T and they still haven't figured out what happened. The rep told me this is the biggest error he's seen in a while and he's trying to figure it out. How long is this going to take? My contract was renewed but my 3GS order was canceled which means that I am not eligible for the subsidized price. I am so frustrated!
mine has a charge on it today from AT&T. wonder if that means it will be shipping soon?

As soon as AT&T changed the upgrade eligibility last week, I ordered from AT&T online. Now a week has passed, and no movement at all. If there was an Apple store nearby I'd just walk in and pick one up. Anybody else order from AT&T on the 17th?

My bf ordered on 6/10 from ATT premiere. He called on 6/18 to see why his status hadn't changed after others started getting tracking/shipping info. They told him there was an error, re-entered the order and now it has an order date of 6/18 instead of the original 6/10. He has yet to get shipping information and all the reps will tell him is 7-14 days. I guess the moral of the story is, ATT won't tell you if there's been a processing error (on their end) unless you call them to check on your status. And if there has been an error they put you at the end of the que.
I ordered a black 16Gb online from AT&T on the 22nd - it wouldn't let me order last week because I have a fraud alert on my credit report.
1st the order status listed everything as backordered - now it says "0" under items backordered and "in progress". Who knows what that means... I'm sure they must be backordered, whatever the system says!

Good luck with that. I ordered mine over the weekend and it's been 4 days and still hasn't shipped. I to also have 2 day shipping.
They say it ships within 2-4 business days. If you ordered Saturday, they still have until tomorrow to ship it and be on time
