perhaps they'll incorporate an all in one feature on the new netbooks/tablets that'll no doubt be out soon
you're certainly right about not letting the Touch encroach into iphone territory though, i agree on that point.
So my way of thinking is why not at least give the option for Touch users? as in make the new Touch hardware at least compatible to add-ons and plug-ins which will enable more third party hardware gigs - like dongle or mobile internet, speakers/mics, remotes, game control pads etc etc. Keep the Touch on it's own path from the iphone, but give third part hardware a chance, we as the end user at least have the option then if we wish to pay for it.
i wouldn't want all this built in as the sleek sexiness of the device, which is what initially attracted me to it, would slowly diminish. (look at the iphone, in profile it looks fugly to me) and, as you say, would probably start to piss off a load of loyal Apple/ipod supporters and Apple themselves, but opening up the Touch's hardware/dock port to 3rd party devices would be a real exciting option i think
