Of course over the next two years. I was commenting on the statement that more people will be buying a 4.0/HD in july than the 3Gs now, whatever now means.
Obviously the fan boys will be queuing up for it, but where is the proof that is will automatically make better sales than products 'now'.

I don't see any reason to interpret 'in july' as 'between July 1 and 31.' I interpreted it as a general reference to the future sales versus current sales. I was pointing out that what we're really talking about could in fact be a choice between delaying people's jailbreak a couple of months or never being able to jailbreak the 4G.

This thread would make sense if jailbreaking your phone required a purchase (other than the iphone itself of course). Its 100% completely free, so there is no marketing, no sales, nothing. Its not a business and can't be broken down by traditional economics because the only money that is exchanged is completely voluntary, not required to use the product, and the amount is determined by the "purchaser." It seems like this eco professor doesnt really know anything about jailbreaking.

u ever realize maybe he doesn't want to do it for money? and just wants to - well at least when he started, he wanted to do it for the community.

not every american is a true capitalist.

Thats exactly what i was saying. You cant analyze the jailbreak community (or 99% of other hackers) because its not a market that thrives on anything. Its not dependent on marketing or revenue, so delaying the 4.0 jailbreak doesnt hurt them. Its only inconveniences 4.0 users a litte, and who cares, its not like they are losing customers.

In the first post of the thread linked there :p

Yes but whose to say the person posting there knows what they are talking about. So many rumors of 3.1.3 JBs have been floating around im not even exited because I doubt it will come out as "planned"

You don't see any reason to interpret july as july? it doesn't need interpreting, its a word with a very definite connotation; the days between between July 1 and 31. If someone wanted to write 'all future sales' they can. Im not sure why the poster needs you to tell them and others what they meant or how to interpret it.

Yes, which i agree with. The person i quoted reasoned they were keeping JB tools because of the amount of people who would want it for 4G as opposed to 3.1.3, not so it would work on the 4G.

The poster mentioned April 30th because of 3G iPad shipping date.

The only credible reference I have seen with regard to 3G iPad shipping date and a jailbreak was mention of @comex releasing his Spirit jailbreak after the 3G iPads ship, but that mention was weeks ago and nothing since then.

Yup, so I guess we wil see. Now every1 knows about it and IMO the 'rumor' has spread a lot. Everybody thinks a JB is coming out soon and Geo has said nothing himself...

I had started getting my hopes up about a "post iPad 3G" release from this post:

https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/9612410/

But I could swear that at the time I actually looked into it and was able to find a twitter by musclenerd that strongly supported the theory...and now I can't find it. So possibly I'm misremembering, or it wasn't twitter, or something. In fact another one of his twitters says there won't specifically be a 3.1.3 JB, just possible backwards-compatibility from other JBs.

The DevTeam nor GeoHot owes you anything, these tools are not created to be marketed for profit, these tools can becomes obsolete at any time. The Applications you buy via Rock/Cydia are sold by individuals who are dependant on the groups who make the tools.

Marketing? What are you even talking about it? They dont SELL their jailbreaks. If YOU upgrade your phone because YOU didnt do research, then that's YOUR problem.

Ha, this whole thread reminds me of Matt Damon schooling that guy in the bar in Good Will Hunting.

If you mean that all the 14 year old Apple-holes in this thread that responded with anything but an actual answer represent Clark, the pompous college kid, and everyone else in the world who doesn't have an Apple-induced superiority complex and is just seeking answers is represented by Will Hunting, then "Yes" I agree.

Actually he has, but it is just the opposite of what some people expect

Also, I think a lot of you expecting a release soon are going to be disappointed. I have so much to finish before I work on the jailbreak.

Remember, that information is about 3 weeks old, sometimes things change.
