I'm not sure which beta this started with, but it is driving me crazy. I like to keep images, videos, whatever, temporarily on my desktop so i can text them to people by dragging and dropping. This no longer works for IMAGES ONLY. Videos, audio, PDFs, etc all still work. WHen I drag an image into Messages text composition box, instead of actually previewing the image, it just shows a generic document icon, the filename and size. Even weirder, when i press enter to send, they FAIL to send without fail. (Red "Not delivered" status)

Copying and pasting works fine but i've never needed to do that before and its extra steps. anybody else seeing this ?

Works fine for me. It could be a few things, try this to narrow down the problem (I'll explain the problem once identified):

  1. Take a fresh screenshot (Shift-Command-4).
  2. Save it to Desktop.
  3. Drag that screenshot into Messages.
If screenshots work, but downloaded images don’t → it’s quarantine attributes or UTI mismatch, not a system-wide Messages bug.

If screenshots also fail, then it’s Messages / ImageKit and not the image files.

no images work, gifs and videos work fine though. makes no difference whether they were screenshots, i routinely drag images from Safari to my desktop before i send them to people. if it's a quarantine issue, do you have any ideas how to fix it?

I've had this happen a few times over the years I've used Mac - usually a reboot fixes it. What image type are you failing to send? (Tested a few successfully here just now).

Saved photos and screenshots are working for me - not sure if its a location thing? Or type of image file?
I often copy / save an image (.jpg or .jpeg) to Downloads folder (which I keep in my Dock) and drag from there. Did that, in fact, this morning. No issues.
Ditto same result when I drag from my Pictures folder (I don't keep my pics in Photos app 'Albums'. Don't like to trust proprietary software. But I digress).

So I just installed macOS 26.3 public beta. Confirming that I'm still experiencing the same problem. A jpeg file saved to my desktop that I drag to a messages conversation will not send.
