Meta won’t even be making these in 6 or 7 years.
Wrong, they are selling better than expected. I work for one of the big 3 cellphone providers as a manager, and we are consistently selling these, the current model just to be clear.

I just came from Japan this week and these were awesome, I was able to take pictures and videos while I was walking all over the place. The ability to take calls, messages, listen to music, take pictures/videos without having to take my phone out is convenient.

The main downside to the current models are the battery life, and I have the smallest ones which still look fine, but the rest are just too darn big and look goofy.

The only other time I ever talked to someone that owned these... a Lyft driver, was also an amateur photographer in LA, and praised the camera quality (also had a 35mm Leica or Nikon with him).
I have the current gen Meta Raybans (and also am a hobby photographer), but have to say photo quality sucks on mine.. Video is good when the light conditions are okay, but photos are disappointing.
The new Oakleys already on the market improved the quality, these should be the even better. But don’t expect phone-like camera quality (at least I don’t).
I use them to record videos while biking, they work fine for that 😀

I had a meeting with someone the other day, and I realized halfway through that he had meta-glasses on. I have no idea if they were recording, but I didn't like seeing them uninvited in my meeting.
The glasses have a recording indicator light. You also can’t just tape it over, because it includes an environmental brightness sensor and the camera shuts off when the measured brightness at the indicator differs from that measured by the camera.

Other than not wanting a Meta account, which I'm sure is required.

And almost as badly, not wanting to look like an audition-reject for "Joe 90" ...

Do these things have options for reader/prescription lenses? (Maybe I missed it, but didn't see anything).

I just really hope it doesn't get to the point where angry people single you out for wearing these, for invading thier privacy. Combine that with anti-Meta hate.....

Yes, it is—but the price is so absurdly high that it’s out of reach for most people, meaning it hasn’t really helped push that product category into the mainstream.
I’d argue the display glasses are also highly priced for what it offers plus I can’t see myself charging another two things lol 😂. The vision regular should be a lot cheaper. The quest 3 is really great (I’m using it everyday for hours) and Apple should compete directly I agree.

A few thoughts in the vein of Marques Brownlee who says to spot the red flags:

Why doesn't Zuckerberg wear his own AI glasses all of the time? He made the majority of his presentation not wearing his own product. And it's not just this new one. He didn't come onto the stage wearing the existing AI glasses. He only wore this new set for the Demo. And then he took them off to finish up. Whenever he is photographed in public, most of the time he is not wearing his own glasses. Why? Isn't that kind of odd? It would be like Tim Cook not carrying an iPhone or Elon Musk not driving a Tesla.

The price may be seen as high by the mainstream market. Add prescription lenses and you probably get to over $1000.

Prescription accommodations are limited. It will not work with certain types of prescriptions, especially those requiring more correction. So some of the accessibility utility goes out the window.

People may not want to wear yet another piece of tech in the wristband. The wristband is cool tech, but yet another item for people to wear, take care of, charge, etc. One tech writer who got to try them mentioned that it felt kind of like becoming a cyborg with the band and the display in one eye.

Speaking of the display, will there be any long term vision problems with the fact that the display is only in one eye? So one eye focuses on the display while the other one doesn't. Also someone wondered if having that bright of a display so close to your eyes was safe.

The battery life is rather limited. It's especially limited if you use that live AI feature.

Who wants to give Meta such access to your data? Will they eventually run ads in the display? Imagine you open up Facebook or Instagram app, and you see ads?

One more thing: couldn't Apple in some way replicate the utility of that wrist band with their Apple Watch and perhaps a special band?

I wonder if these camera glasses, can be blinded by a counter-attack set of glasses, something with bright (invisible to the human eye) IR leds at the temples and nose. Make them see nothing but dazzle.
Yes, they can be blinded and the products already exist. :D It was more for digital cameras/paparazzi, but it works just as well for these.

You think Meta will still be making single screen glasses in 6 or 7 years, I think they’ll have moved on to whatever the next thing is. Dual screen, full lens, etc. We disagree.

It will. Glassholes didn’t become a thing because everyone that had them wore them responsibly and were polite and courteous when using them. Just takes one person defeating the LED and wearing them where someone expects privacy and sharing the video for clout. I thing Meta is rushing forward to sell as many as possible before that happens. “We have the LED there for a reason and they disabled it!” as an excuse won’t work too many times.

There are already ways to defeat those. You know, for folks that want to take vids of their kids acting natural and not responding to a camera. Can’t think of any other use for that sort of kit. ;)

The Apple Vision Pro is far superior cmon dude I watched the keynote it wouldn’t even take a video call, definitely half baked the quest 3 on the other hand is really great they should focus on making more headsets for now
Do you have the vision pro? No? Why not?
