Due to slower than expected revenue growth for the last quarter, which Wehner partly blames on Apple's ATT (App Tracking Transparency) framework, Meta will hire fewer employees for the rest of 2022
GOOD, less jobs for a company focused on trying to trick people out of their privacy rights. ****** business model.

Legit question. How did the war in Ukraine effect this decision? The other 3 I understand

"Business Insider got access to a memo sent to all employees by chief financial officer David Wehner. In it, he lists four factors responsible for slowing revenue growth and increased costs. Apple’s introduction of App Tracking Transparency is the first one listed.

  • “Loss of signal from iOS changes”
  • The war in Ukraine
  • The “general macroeconomic environment”
  • Easing of lockdowns resulting in people spending less time online"

Maybe Zuckerberg can find cheap labor in his vaunted metaverse. I mean there's no living expenses in there right?

Meta approached me about a 6-figure job as a recruiter last month and I turned them down because they're scumbags and I won't work for a company who has knowingly contributed to societal damage. Apple's not responsible for them scaling back hiring, they're struggling because people won't work for an evil corporation who don't give a **** about the world they operate in.

Was FaceBook among the (many) companies that decided to virtue signal by blocking all access from Russian citizens in protest of said war? Because then you could say it was that loss of income, suddenly losing the entire Russian market.

Going to be interesting to see how long Meta keep milking this excuse to justify poor performance in various areas.... would not be surprised if they attempt to blame ATT for their lack of results in the metaverse

"Meta said in the ad that "limiting how personalized ads can be used does impact larger companies like us," adding Apple's "forced software update" will "limit businesses' ability to run personalized ads and reach their customers effectively."

Facebook/Meta needs a new business model that doesn't use advertisement revenue as its main source of income. Meta also tracks people as many websites uses Meta login for tracking.

Best thing to do is not use Facebook/Meta.

Every time I read an article like this where Meta blames their problems on someone else, my stomach turns. They created a behemoth by using unethical business practices and fleecing their users. Now that the world is understanding their effect on society and calling them out on it, they're whining about it. It's like someone who has made a fortune off of embezzlement, gets caught, and then whines and blames law enforcement for losing their money.

Also, for someone who is one of the richest and most recognizable people in the world, can Zuckerberg not get a decent haircut?

Ironically, the EU (which has incredibly strict privacy laws) is about to undo all of this, by requiring Apple to allow side-loading. Apple's vaunted Walled Garden is about to be irreparably breached.

I'm just waiting to see how fast Meta/Facebook jumps on that bandwagon once the option is available to them, and wondering if any of the EU regulators are ever going to have an, "Oh crap... what have we done?" moment, or if instead they're just going to sit back and congratulate themselves for knocking the "big-bad-Apple" down a few pegs.

Kinda interesting how Apple has been able to deal in one fell swop to Facebook what an army of regulators could not.

So while the article is about Meta -- the root issue is control. Specifically, who controls what software runs on the CPUs that we buy. And the bad news is that it's not us.

None of the big corps are heroes here. MacOS still makes me wait seconds before it will start dev tools like `make` because it has to check with master to see if it's allowed.

And one can see why Apple is so insistent on controlling every single aspect of their platform.

TLDR... Were they using tracking when doing a background check on candidates or using tracking to predict people who are likely to apply to their job positions, before they even think of applying?

This is who is fighting for an open iOS. Overnight Facebook will leave the AppStore. Everyone is telling me that’s not true. Do you not see Facebook for iOS isn’t viable for them anymore? Do you not think they will have detailed videos explaining how to sideload? **** they will have a call center to help people sideload. They are bringing it all back full spy mode. They have to pause hiring until the door opens then they are going ham.
