Does anyone else find it suspicious how fast Threads has grown? 100 million users in less than a week is an astronomical number for a new platform...an unbelievable number.

I feel like Threads might be fudging some numbers by auto creating Threads accounts from Instagram accounts.

Oh well, we all know in the end that a platform isn't successful just from numbers, but also for if the users stay on it...which I don't think will happen.
People leaving twitter caused somewhat of a vacuum, and that's probably the main reason other than Instagram itself for it growing so fast.

Musk's off color complaints about Zuck is also another possible reason it's growing so fast. I know when I read something like Musk's rants, I want to do the opposite...

Sure, Musk being a total clown doesn't help his cause for Twitter, but just because Elon is a clown doesn't mean we should let ourselves be swept into the arms of Zuckerberg.
Like, no platforms grows THAT fast, you get me? Even the big boys like Facebook and Twitter needed time to get that big, not overnight.
Something just doesn't sit right with me about this platform...

Who knows, but expect we'll find out eventually if it's real and it will last. I don't really see a problem one way or another unless one is planning on investing in it. (which I don't!)

Ok, but most social medias DON'T grow that quickly so fast. Usually it takes months or years for that many users to sign up. Instagram itself took about two and a half years to get to the 100 million user mark and Twitter took 5 years to get to 100 millions active users.

Even with easy set up, it just seems a little suspicious to me that ANY platform could gain that many users like it's nothing.

On a totally unrelated note, remember when that social media, IRL, cooked their books on how many users they had by creating fake accounts in order to get more money from investors, which led to their downfall.
Nothing suspicious? Billions on instagram…. Just tap log in from instagram. Done.

They already have instagram. It IS instagram. Built on instagram. It’s not really a NEW network.

Most social media doesn’t have 2 BILLION users primed where all they need to do is log into the social media they’re already using and click “yes, I want access to the new thing” (essentially). I truly expect that over half of those folks currently using Instagram are going to activate Threads JUST because they fear missing out (actually accounting for how strong the pull of FOMO is, likely more like 80%).

I wouldn’t even think it’s suspicious that there are millions of new Instagram accounts because a lot of people want to “see what it’s about” and “have something to complain about” without spoiling the Instagram account they use daily.

Apple takes advantage of their user base similarly when they were adding new features to iTunes (including the App Store). The initial number of people spending money on Apps were directly related to Apple having already built this large group of users that 1. are ok buying digital goods (from the years of buying music) and 2. had credit cards stored with them already.

Thread’s growth is just representative of the kind of growth one can see when the onboarding process, the barrier to entry, is lowered to pretty near zero.

I don’t think it’s odd as I have about 200 people on my Threads account as it was promoted to people with Instagram accounts, so setup was a couple of clicks. Adoption is huge because instagram is huge.

I mean, how much of a clown do you have to be to get millions of people to root for Zuck?

He’s not a clown though, clowns are good, for the most part 🤡. Musk is a despicable idiot with zero redeeming values. I’ve had an instagram account since it began, such a shame it was sold to Zuckerberg, so I’ll see how threads goes. I just want to see important news from people I’m interested in without having a bunch of sickening racist BS being shoved down my throat by Musk. Twitter was good for certain things, such a shame a service like it that was used worldwide, was allowed to be bought and ruined by one guy. Watching Musk have a total meltdown over threads has been entertaining though. And all his supporters who say things like “I thought it was supposed to be dead by now??”. Well uh I’ve been “rate limited” for 24 hours now, so Twitter is pretty much dead, and it’s exactly the sort of live which might lead me to jump onto threads and I’m sure a lot of other people. Oh and I’m sure Musk hasn’t sold everyone’s data to his Saudi butcher friends either, right?

Of course, this doesn’t change anything about Zuckerberg, he’s a scumbag as well, let’s not forget about this..

I only heard about this 'Threads' for the first time 2 days ago. I barely use twitter, maybe just a bit after Musk bought it, then I got bored after a few weeks and decided to get on with my life again.

MySpace, Google+, Bueller? Anyone?

Thread is now popular all over the world. And days after days increase user in thread as alternative or clone twitter.
Well, not ALL over the world. Still not available in the EU. Though, it will be interesting to see if Threads can get as large as Twitter (including the EU) WITHOUT the EU.

Still not available in the EU.

They can keep it that way for all I care.

I’ll be honest though, I don’t have a problem with things like social media, and guns. What I do have a problem with is how they get abused. In the wrong hands, both can do all sorts of damage.

While it is said guns don’t kill people, social media also can’t hurt, as long as those who use either are responsible enough.

Point is, why do we even need yet another way of giving people a (virtual) trigger to pull.
