To be honest with the world, Total Privacy Nightmare.

Threads is asking for too much. Too much sensitive information! They want to know it all. SMH! 😒

Definitely angre!

Our head editor of macrumors videos this article comes across VERY personal. I thought that this shouldn’t be done. And most social media apps do indeed allow you to share to other platforms so I’m not sure what our OP is talking about feeling surprised about that function or being funny.

Does anyone know if you can import your twitter following into Threads/Instagram? I have an exported list of people I am following but is there an easy way of getting this into Instagram?

I may give Threads a whirl. Really want to disable and delete my Twitter account. No longer want to be associated with that garbage site. How did you export your list of follows?

To everyone declaring this a "privacy nightmare" maybe exercise your ability to control what an app gets and what it doesn't. I have it installed and have disallowed access to anything. Gee, that was way less fun than complaining online.

Everything is a "privacy nightmare" nowadays.
I love the Apple marketing angle about privacy, yet they had to train all that privacy AI on something. Maybe people like the peace of mind knowing that Apple knows everything about them and that they don't openly act on it.

Think I’ll stick with the Guy who’s going to get us to mars , rather than the dip**** who is steeling everyone’s personal info on facebook

Well you’ll be waiting awhile, odds are it will never happen, and if it does, it will probably be long after people like Musk are even around. The difficulties of space travel make it that we are nowhere close to having the technology available to send people to Mars. I asked a couple NASA scientists about Musks claims last year and they laughed. Wonder why nasa doesn’t constantly talk about it? Because they know that talking about it like Musk, doesn’t mean anything. Even when we do get someone there odds are it will be a one way trip.

In other words, Musk is full of it.

'Promise'....Meta or Twitter....do the math!
Jaguar Jaguar Jaguar!

I quite like Elon's Twitter since he took over. It feels like a slightly crazy work in progress that everyone is part of because he does actually engage with the users. Sure he messes up sometimes but so what, it's just a website. People take it way too seriously. And a lot of the changes he's made are for the better.

I'm not sure mark zuckerburg is the kind of guy who wants to engage with his users in the same way (if at all). All you really get from him are corporate style press releases, which is fine, but not as much fun

Sadly I have a life so don’t do FB, ****ter or tick or instagram….am I missing stuff that will help my life or is this just a “youngster” thing ? I’m over 50.

It would be a little funny to me if that’s what tech in the EU eventually becomes, folks setting up accounts outside the EU because one technology or another isn’t available. Just make it easy enough for 400+ million to set up a non-EU account and you get access to the users without having to deal with the regulations.

i suppose from the EU's point of view though, they've still done their job. they have created laws describing acceptable treatment of private data, Meta dont want to abide by these so the app cant be released in the EU. Anyone therefore downloading it using a UK account, is doing so in the full knowledge of this so cant complain about their data being sold or manipulated, and a lot of people wont for that reason.

it is a strange situation i guess, given that meta are willing to abide by the laws for their instagram users and facebook users but not threads users.

Well, I do facebook and used to do twitter, and have an instagram account and that's it. Keeping in touch with old friends is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. And facebook has groups for people with similar medical problems for sharing of information and I wouldn't leave that for anything.

And I'm over 60...

Hard pass… I think it will attract some people and will become a political echo chamber.
That’s the real danger… You can see just by reading through this thread that which social media people are using or intend to use is based on the perception of ideology of the people who own it. So you eventually end up with a bunch of echo chambers. It’s already occurred in regular media, Some people get their news from msnbc or cnn and others get it from fox and newsmax…. It’s not even about slant anymore, these networks don’t even report the same stories. … so anyway… just find it sad, any social media with out diversity of thought and opinions turns people in to sheep.

Question: Do you use social media yourself or are you going on what you hear? It really sounds like you guys are making a mountain out of a molehill compared to what I see. I quit twitter long before Musk, it never was that useful to me, and now that it's Musk, I even have less incentive for it. (I think he's a total ah and not as smart as he thinks he is. He does have a few people working for him that are the smarts, which I like...)

I use facebook, and it's far from an echo chamber. I have friends in my feed that are on both sides of the aisle, and even Trump supporters that I've known a very long time. Sure, they moderate or fact check lies, and I'm all for it, but I think it happens far less than some people think. I see hate there too, but I usually block the source in cases like that because there is absolutely no reason I'd ever want to see things like that.
