Because they want Zuckerburger and team to be entertained watching their personal videos. Why would anyone willingly hand their videos over to Facebook?
Let them enjoy the pixels of their videos at 1080p... lol

I am not questioning the ethics of Apple. I said Beeper because it is the only case in recent memory where Apple blocked another service from using their features. Though there are differences in the cases, I didn't have a better analogy.I think you need a better analogy than Beeper.
Beeper literally created a messaging client that leveraged another company's servers to support it. It was not a messaging service, but simply a messaging client for an existing service that exploited security holes to register unauthorized clients.
If people want to message securely between Android and iPhone there are a host of apps that have their own server-side components for doing that.... WhatsApp and Signal to name two.
Uploading a spatial video you took on your iPhone to a Meta cloud service through the Meta Quest app will not leverage anything that belongs to Apple. Apple is not going to do anything about this except maybe enjoy a few more people upgrading to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max who already own a Meta Quest because now they have a reason to upgrade.
I am sure the quality of spatial videos on Meta Quest is going to be degraded versus Vision Pro because the resolution of the Meta Quest screen is not as high, but it will still be nice for those who own an iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max and a Meta Quest.
I am kinda regretting selling the Meta Quest that Nissan sent me for free as an apology gift for the delay on my pre-order for the Nissan Ariya. I never ended up buying the Ariya, but I thought it was a nice gift that they sent.
There’s no way of doing that. How much do you want to bet Apple figures out a way to block that?
There’s no way. Beeper uses Apple services, this doesn’t. This just converts the file format to something the meta quest can reproduce.I am not questioning the ethics of Apple. I said Beeper because it is the only case in recent memory where Apple blocked another service from using their features. Though there are differences in the cases, I didn't have a better analogy.
There was a report about Meta being excited about the Vision Pro, they think it will reinvigorate the market and the only obvious players beside Apple is Meta. So it would be like an android iOS thing.Just read a Verge article where you can place AR buttons for Smart TV's and stuff with the AVP, which is a nifty feature but surprisingly close to Zuckerberg's idea of a 'metaverse'.
If this thing gets the 'metaverse' going, then it's going to be the most hilarious irony in the history of tech.
Why? I don't think it's a big deal if Quest is seen as a poor man's Vision Pro. You always want to be the thing being compared to, not the thing being compared. How much do you want to bet Apple figures out a way to block that?
Something something rising tide lifts all boats... I see this as a win as well. Apple could stand to sit back a bit too and work with other companies for a change, if they're hoping for widespread success. I mean that outside of the Vision Pro too.A good thing. More adoption, more people buying iPhone 15 Pro, more people taking and using Spatial Video. Market grows.
Apple won't stop this.
Spatial video is a universal format rebranded. How would apple stop it? Why would apple stop it?Not long before Apple tries to stop this. It will be like Beeper all over again.
There is also the possibility that they allow this just to popularise the idea hoping that people will buy their expensive devices when they get money, just like many Android users do. However, I don't think the current Apple leadership have such vision and care about much beyond money.
oh no not your birthday!Talk about privacy invasion. huh-uh, nope, nah gah dah.
btw, just to use Quest, one has to provide their birthday.
EDIT. speaking of disappointed, I assume the video will have to be downscaled to fit down into the Quest lower resolution.
Why? Spatial Video (via Apple: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/record-spatial-videos-for-apple-vision-pro-iph6e3a6d4fe/ios#:~:text=Spatial videos are recorded at,video is approximately 65 MB) is only 1080P @ 30FPS. Even the Quest 2 can support that. I had read that some of the current conversion apps seem to "lose" some of the spatial metadata, and the "spatial" effect isn't as good on the converted file. If Meta does the same thing as those apps do (where meta data is lost), then the AVP will be the best option for spatial video playback.
Is the meta quest 3 not got a 4k screen?Because they want Zuckerburger and team to be entertained watching their personal videos.
Let them enjoy the pixels of their videos at 1080p... lol
Good for those who have that stalking toy.Is the meta quest 3 not got a 4k screen?
I responding to a previous post who said it was going to be 1080pGood for those who have that stalking toy.
You must be kidding? Why would anyone willingly hand their videos over to Facebook?
You must be aware that Instagram and Facebook reels are very popular and billions of videos are uploaded to them regularly. Why worry, Zuck is completely trustworthy, right?
I don’t use social media. Again I ask…why? It wasn’t a question of “do”?You must be kidding?
According to WordStream, 95 million photos and videos are shared on Instagram every day. This means that Instagram has seen over 50 billion photos and videos uploaded since its inception in 2010.

Do you want to talk about WhatsApp?

No way in hell they would block this.
It’s a win for Apple.
