I am on my 7th iPhone 4, I basically swap whenever the screen gets dirty and cite the proximity sensor issue.

IF there is a hardware revision I will be up to number 8.

Can't beileve we are still talking about this.

People are still talking about this? Didn't Steve answer all these questions in his keynote when he played that youtube video? "If you bought a iphone4 and you dont like it bring it back."

I think they're more likely to just put the bumper in the box, than change the design.

If they augment the phone so that it 'fixes' the problem, all those people with an existing phone will complain that they have a lesser product, and a class-action will follow in some locale, enough to cause further bad PR for Apple.

They'd also be admitting that there was a problem after all. Considering the bizarre lengths they went to to deny it, blaming others and then the customer, only to be roundly trashed in the media. I think leaving it as it is, is strangely the best option.

IMHO, if the phone doesn't work as a phone, they should probably call it something else.

I don't believe that anyone would have information like this outside of the Apple campus..
Actually, there are a fair number of non-Apple people who would be privy to such information.

Certainly the suppliers would know but for a telecom, one would expect at least some of the following to be in the know: shipping people, finance, channel sales/biz dev, inventory specialists, senior marketing staff, probably some tech support managers.

However, this guy doesn't seem to be in a role that would get that information early.

Oh, and the last people to find out? Retail sales line employees.

That said, I think this rumor is poppycock.

I bet nothing happens. If they change anything at all, it will be a coating of some sort.
Nah, an outside (non-Apple) antenna engineer already explained several times that a coating wouldn't be effective.

The proximity sensor is the worst thing about the iphone 4. Dropped calls are now from the screen coming on during a call and then the end call accidentally pressed! Fix THAT apple!

im sure a lot of people are going to be pissed

Why exactly?

If they would really do so - and I doubt it as there is no real problem, remember - than they need to exchange it for all the early beta testers (including yours truly), who will be mad like hell. Remember when they dropped the price on the 1st iPhone after few months and all hell broke loose? Imaging this one: "Here we have after just 3 months the improved iP4b with even less of a problem than the previous one..." I would be calling Apple right now and inquire if I can return the defective product including the bumper case and get a functioning phone (ok, functioning as expected, but I seem to have more dropped calls and a worse quality than with the 3Gs, as several people including my Mom mentioned - without bumper, hate the thing).

Why exactly would people who claim they don't have any problems with their phone be mad as hell? They're iPhones are perfect, remember. Only the people who have the problem will exchange theirs, which is 0.55% of all iPhone owners according to Jobs.

Won't know till we see the phones in October. IMO, you would have to be out there not to see a correlation with a design change and the delay of the White phone till the end of the year.

It will be internal, and unnoticeable from an appearance point. It simply amazes me that people still think Apple would not make a change simply because they said "if you don't like it take it back". Hello, that was the out for a change.

Those with current phones will have them until the contract runs out because you are happy. Remember, you "did not take it back".

Can't wait till Jan now. Might even stay with at&t now. Simply another example of 6m for Apple to get it perfect, and why I kept my 2G until the 3GS came out. :apple:

"...come up with a better solution for future customers."

What? There needs to be a better solution for current costumers that wants to hold on to their iPhone.

7? Really? You've exchanged your phone 7 times? Um, if it sucks that bad, why not just go get a completely different phone, I smell lies, unless self torture is your thing....but yeah I smell fibber

If people would be pissed because of technical evolution, then they never did deserve an iPhone in the first place. Just like those who threw a fit 3 months after the release of iPhone 1g

Wasn't that more about the price being cut than any technical evolution of the phone?

Can we exchange our 'defective' iPhones for one of these then?

If you bought a product and it was defective you should have returned it. If you didn't then the phone is obviously fit your purpose and you're happy with it. So the answer would be "no".

Very childish and costing Apple money.

Just don't press the phone against your face, simple!

there is no issue. i can't believe some of you are still clinging on to this overblown antennagate thing :p.

Some people do experience this, the same as some people experience a proximity sensor issue. The problem is that the media believe that one person with an issue means everyone must have the same issue.

The sales figures, the customer satisfaction rating and the extremely low return rate paint the true picture.

If you iPhone doesn't work - return it. If the replacement doesn't work - get another phone. Who are these people who use a device that doesn't work just so they can complain about it?

FOr the record, my iPhone 4 has no issues, nor does my first gen 27" iMac . beautiful machines, no issues. If they were faulty in any way, they'd have been returned.

I have no issues with dropped calls, 'antennagate' or proximity sensor issues. So I'm not gonna be pissed if they issue a fix for new iPhones.

I certainly won't be returning my perfect iPhone for one that might have a problem just because some Mexican carrier claims there's a hardware revision .

If people are considering that and you have 'defective' iPhones. Why are you keeping hold of a defective product?
