in the past I also changed the notifications NOT to replicate the phone
That seems unnecessarily extreme as a workaround. Anybody else got a way to get the voice back without this?
Talked to Apple senior tech. He could not get Mickey to talk. He said it’s probably that the sound file isn’t installing prior to the update finishing. He told me to just turn Wi-Fi off and on and leave it on the charger overnight and call back if that doesn’t work. He said he will send report to engineering.
Give it time, he will talk. Initial Apple Watch setup downloads the voices after everything else. I get this every time I upgrade Apple Watches.
Is there anything special I needed to do? When the Watch is on charger, it goes to Bedside mode. I temporarily turned off Auto Switch to my other Watch while I left my S3 on the charger. Still no dice.

Don't ask me why, but today after turning on the AW, Mickey and Minnie talks again...
Hear Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse speak the time
If you set Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse as your watch face, you can tap the screen to hear them speak the time.
My Mickey and Minnie went mute after the update too. Tried all sorts of things, including resetting, unpairing and re-pairing but in the end all it needed was time - I assume to download the voice file again. All working fine now (except the no notifications mess...but that's another story!)
Unpairing and Re-pairing worked great! Both Mickey and Minnie talk now
