I Don't have a big problem with the microsim. I saw whatever works. I'm glad they are doing it though because i get tired of hearing about people attempting to swap sims to use data plans on other phones.

If i have to pay for unlimited data then so does everyone else that uses it. No free lunch so this will cut that all out! :D And to the person who was whining about micro usb. So what it's a standard? Standards are ment to be broken and then recreated.

Why don't you take a look at all of the Standards and Firsts that Apple has had. When other machines didnt even have USB ports apple's did. And Most PC's still don't come standard with Bluetooth and Look at ethernet. Apple was the first Home PC to have ethernet cards installed.

So next time you whine about apple being different and bucking the standards just remember It was the bucking that created innovation

standards are ment to be bettered, since micro usb equals the 30 pin connector in functionality AND is a universal standard it is the better connector, the 30pin connector isn't a standard and is proprietary to apple (unlike USB, bluetooth or ethernet), can you ever see all the manufactures being allowed to use the 30pin connector on other mp3 players or phones, put simply no because if you own a load of docks and speaker systems which use the 30pin connector you are effectively tied into the apple ecosystem, so that is the reason they are using their own proprietary connector and it is not so they can be ahead of the adoption curve.

+1

Seems the ONLY people who would be interested in the change in SIM cards would be those people who want to use on another carrier.

Not the "only people", quite a few business users that I know of who have an iPhone purchased the device themselves. This means they're work phone was not an iPhone, but anther device

I think Apple have severely limited their sales here. Indeed, I know of companies who are now considering using the iPhone for their staff when they're corporate contracts are up for renewal mainly because staff have purchased their own iPhones and have found them to be beneficial

My current sim has a data plan, it is a work phone, but I won't be able to put that sim into the new iPhone. This is very annoying.

as you know mobile theft is a big issue and in the UK a lot of people would have a disposable phone which they would take on a night out and leave their expensive phone at home, just by simply swaping out the sim card from their smartphone to the dumb phone therefore keeping the same number,
now apple have done this idiotically stupid micro sim cr@p people can no longer do that anymore, because lets be frank most people dont have any need for a smartphone on a night out clubbing and you always have a dedicated camera which you would use for pics anyway.

news story and pic (the phone is tiny perfect for a night out)

that's why I voted nay, it's a bad move by apple esp when it would have been very simple (look at the teardown) to just have a slight dip into the battery and would be able to fully hold a full sim card with no impact to the battery life,

That's a very good point, I know people who do that

I'm only fifteen, and I tend to get grounded... So I usually put the SIM in my old phone so I can text/call XD But that's just me!

Less plastic, more room inside - what's not to like? Everything is getting smaller, we have micro SD, why not micro sim?

It's weird how people get all in a tizzy over something so mundane.

I don't like the idea of them locking people into another one of their products but I have to admit that it makes a lot of sense for Apple and they would be stupid not to.

Yes. I'll bet that stimulates a lot more worldwide availability since the products that the micro-SIM is in are/will be two of the most ubiquitous and sought after SIM-bearing mobile devices in the world.

I'd guess micro-SIM was designed back in the days when it was assumed that the holy grail for cell phones was going to be smaller and smaller. With the ascendancy smart phones, they had to have a usable screen and a keyboard, so they got bigger again and the smaller form factor of the micro-SIM became less important. Who knows why Apple decided to go that route now, but no doubt it will have an impact on micro-SIM availability as well as adapters and probably cutting dies.

Well, only recently, O2, Orange and Vodafone actually had the Micr SIMS built from the factory.

Yep, I'm all for miniaturization.

I mean it had to happen right? I'm glad Apple has started the move..... look for other manufacturers to follow.

I said yay only because I believe the smaller SIM allowed Apple to put more features into the new iPhone, such as a larger battery. If that's not true, and Apple put it in for ***** and giggles then I'd say nay.

This poll makes no sense. Yay because it's happening. It's inevitable. It's the manufacturers choice, not ours.
