Please, MacRumors, PLEASE run a story on this leaked PowerPoint from Microsoft showing the Microsoft Store concept (with Answer Bar (I'm not lying), theater (Whoa!!!) and....IN-STORE BIRTHDAY PARTIES!!!

I am not making this up.

http://gizmodo.com/5322328/leak-ins...all+sized-screens-and-the-answer-bar/gallery/

We need a thread for this one. I want to hear how all the Ballmer-lovin' Winbots that infest this forum are going to spin this one.

LOL!!!

Aiden Shaw, can I please come to your birthday party at the Microsoft Store? ;)

LOL!!!!! :)

P.S. the commentary on Gizmodo is hilarious. Can't wait until it hits Engadget, where the true Apple haters dwell...
Apple hosts Field Trips for students Grade K-12 at retail stores. Your point? Oh yes, lets miss a day of school to go look at the newest iPods!

What a sad life this MS guy has had.

The highlight of his career was bragging about this...then a week later he gets publicly pwned by apple.

It would be hilarious if it wasn't so forlorn.

Well, I realize this is anecdotal at best, but at the Best Buy near me today, the Apple section was crowded, whereas the PC area had ZERO people. I witnessed 2 Macs purchased within 15 minutes of each other.

That and Apple's best quarter ever makes me continue to laugh at the Microsoft ads. Here's to Homeless Frank.

re: ads

Hahahahahahah, that's ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. Apple has been talking crap about the "PC" in many, many ads and AS SOON as Microsoft puts something about a "Mac", Apple gets all upset about it? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I like Apple products, but come on now...they can't take the heat.

Let's see. Apple puts out valid points. Microsoft does not tell the truth, gets caught, and has to change their ads. I'll let you take a moment to process these facts for a moment......... See the difference?

And by "another money losing venture" you mean Windows and Office? Yeah, those really flopped.

Um they are going to offer them for free starting next year. So they will not have as much money being made from this package.

No it was because the Ad was inaccurate. I think the ads were ok and it was good to see MS firing back, point was this ad was no longer telling the truth so Apple has ever right to raise this. Otherwise I think we wouldn't be having this conversation.

MS should take away from this that these ads were hitting a nerve at Apple otherwise would we have seen the price drop?

...MS should take away from this that these ads were hitting a nerve at Apple otherwise would we have seen the price drop?

The nerves at Apple weren't the only ones frayed. How many posts average for each response to an ad here at the MR forums? The Laptop Hunter ads were a good step forward for M$. Much better than those idiotic Seinfeld / Gates commercials. Back to the present, however - yes, I believe the recent price drops were partially as a result of those ads. I hope they continue and nerves continue to fray. Prices can come down a bit more, IMO.

You're joking, right? Every ad has mistakes and half-truths in it. Apple is no better at it, and often worse.

Shall we start with that bogus ad about the pilot getting a takeoff slot because he used his iPhone to tell ATC what to do?

How about that "Fine Print" anti-PC ad (how come Apple can't do pro-Mac ads? too boring?) where the fine print could be applied to Macs as well.

Or if the topic is having to change ads, look at the UK ads that had to be pulled or modified because Apple made EDGE look too fast.

The main thing here is, the Microsoft ads worked... but in a way that was perhaps unexpected: Apple lowered their prices to keep from looking so bad.

Microsoft is more honest than Apple, that's all.

The "fact" that I process is that the ads were accurate when they were produced and first shown - but that (likely in response to Microsoft's ads) Apple lowered their prices.

After the prices were lowered, the ads went from accurate to "no longer accurate", and Microsoft responded by minor adjustments to generalize the ads.

Microsoft did not "get caught" - they reacted to Apple's price change by adjusting the ads to stay truthful.

Contrast this to one of the old PPC/Intel keynote "bakeoff" scenes (and the print and media ad campaign that followed) that trumpeted that the "new PowerMac Gx is XX% faster than Intel's fastest chip on <hand-tuned altivec-friendly benchmark>".

OK. But a couple of weeks before WWDC or MWSF or MWNY - Intel bumped the chip speeds.

The Jobs-Schiller dog-and-pony keynote didn't mention anything about Intel's newer chips - in fact they had one of the older systems on stage and claimed that it was "Intel's fastest".

When the media ads went out, there was tiny, tiny font at the bottom that said "tests conducted on <some date a couple of months ago>" - but the ads still used the copy "Intel's fastest".

But, you don't expect truth in advertising from a company that had the balls to call the PowerMac G5 the world's "first 64-bit desktop" when:
  • It wasn't the first 64-bit desktop, and
  • Its software didn't have a single line of 64-bit code

At least Microsoft's ads show more 'truth' than Apple's. They didn't have to do this but they did...unlike Apple's ads that make PCs look like they are crashing or getting a virus/spyware from left, right, centre, above and below every minute of the day...

I switched partly because I was impressed by the slick Mac OS X (did not like 9), but the motivation came from feeling like no consumer should have to after getting several error messages on a Windows machine. They would tick you off too, if you had any sense.

One of the worst was Windows Media Player: "INTERNAL PROGRAM ERROR." I clicked "OK," which was the only button. It was not OK. To me, that meant, "We don't know how to make programs work. Is that OK? You have only one option, to say OK." It wasn't OK, and after other problems, I switched.

Maybe you're miraculously lucky or blissfully insensitive to lack of professionalism, but the rest of the world is headbanging everyday because of Microsoft's mediocrity. This is partly due to Windows's popularity, but as a matter of fact, they're crashing all over, right now, and are also teeming with viruses. Frankly, Apple's ads make more sense to someone who has used computers enough to know and not so much that he's a blind fanboy.

The reason Microsoft is a fail is vista, a Good thing in away. Windows 7 is not much different from vista still has driver issues, and the speed on copying folders has improved thats about all I've noticed, oh and the UI well its wayyy too distracting.

I've read some dumb **** on these boards but this is up there near the top. What you have had the error message say? What button would you have liked to have clicked? Apple are welcome to have people like you, ignorant moaning whiners who don't understand what they are moaning about but think they have the right.

Wow, talk about ignorance. For someone who supposedly has been supporting PCs for 15 years, you certainly must have seen your share of inane error messages in Windows.

One of my favorites (and a frequent one) is "There was a problem copying one of your files." Of course Windows doesn't tell you which file, it just merrily goes about its business copying the rest of your files. It's up to you to determine which file didn't copy successfully. Better hope you weren't copying hundreds (or thousands) at the time...

How about all the "There was a memory error at 8X0glkdo93" or its countless variations?

I had to modify a registry file just to get PowerPoint to show thumbnails of clipart in PowerPoint (I found the fix on the MS support site). Yeah, that's user error alright!

I could write a book with the bizarre, meaningless messages I've seen in Windows. Is OS X perfect? Heck no. But I certainly don't see the types of error messages in OS X I see in Windows (in fact, I almost never see error messages in OS X).

But hey, when in doubt, blame the user. It's the Microsoft Way.

Ignorance indeed.

Do you Windows evangelists ever smell what you're shoveling?

"This does not change the focus of the campaign, which is to showcase the value and choice of the PC."

Lets be honest people, is there ever any real value associated with purchasing a PC? I think not. If I wanted a machine that under preformed, froze up, had an extremely inferior OS, etc..., I still wouldn't bring myself to buy a PC! I feel sorry for the poor saps that are getting roped into buying a crappy PC because they believe these ads are painting a realistic picture.

Awwwww. I love the Mac fanboys. Classic. I can tell you're a fanboy because you just say PC.. I assume you are talking about Linux? Or the 64bit Windows with Blu Ray and more software than any other OS? Whats inferior about that? Apple dont even make QT in 64 bit.

I went on a tour at Pixar.. I didnt see a single Mac there. It was all Linux based, why is this? Steve Jobs owns the place. He could probably get a discount? No fanboy has ever answered this question.

The realistic picture is that 90% of workstations around the world are PC's. Is it an accident? Is it an accident at Pixar???

doesn't matter what happens, a PC always crashes and a MAC seldom. and best of all, we pay a premium to get lesser trouble. :p

and less software availabiluty
and less advanced technology (bluray)
and less consumer options (netflix was delayed years)
and less generic ports (HDMI anyone?)

The answer is obvious, and you know it as well as I do. An animation studio is full of workstation clusters that work 24x7 doing graphics rendering. Nothing more. These are the computer equivalent of pack mules moving heavy cargo. And in this line of work you want the cheapest horsepower you can get. And that means Linux. Running on what are essentially "dumb terminals" that do little more than 3D animation.

Now that you got the obvious answer to the obvious question, flitter away. Your constant trolling of these forums grows tiresome. Funny how the Windows folks think their machines are so wonderful yet they use them continuously to spew all over Mac discussion boards. Methinks I sense jealousy...

P.S. don't bother responding to my post - you're going on my block list. Along with every other hot-air-blowing griefer and MS astroturfer that has infested these boards as of late. It's time to take these discussion forums back from the trolls.

i like both Microsoft and Apple anmd all this fan boy **** is getting real old and really childish. But I have to agree with Microsoft. They were right, and I think we all agree that apple products are over expensive. Apple is a huge cry baby , as they cried before Microsoft could even put out a new ad, demanding they stop airing them. Now I phrase Apple for getting smart and lowering their prices to todays standards, but please,

and are we sure it was apple who cried or some apple fan/kid tring to be "cool" by pulling off something so stupid

But the answer isnt obvious. Its like the owner of Pepsi drinking only Coke. Or the owner of BMW driving to work in a Mercedes. Jobs OWNS the place. He could fill that place with Macs for free.

Feel free to block me, if thats how you like to deal with awkward questions you can't answer. The world is safe when the nasty things are blocked out :)

"dumb terminals" LOL.. usually a 3D workstation is the highest end machine out there...

Honestly, most of the software I use is simply not available on a Mac. What then?

Simple. Dual-boot Windows via Bootcamp. Then you'll have the best of both worlds. Or triple-boot with Linux, too.

A Mac is the only piece of hardware that will run everything, right out of the box. It takes just a couple of clicks and a copy of the other OS.
