If you were hiring someone, would you a check a CV for design skills and tools ... or operating systems? Somehow, I think not the latter, and it wouldn't hold them in good stead if they started making a fuss about it.

Actually many times I've seen "Must be proficient in OSX / Windows" or even both depending on the environment you will be working in.

But suddenly all the 'professionals' seem to be coming out of the wood-work and pointing out how they could move over in an instant.

Those who know of what they speak don't have to preface their replies by telling the world what they are. Anyway, Kwill's post is possibly more relevant than droning on about the Creative Suite and marketshare:

More likely: Adobe is not happy that Flash is barred from the most popular tablet on the planet (read: lame, outdated code). So it wants to partner with MS to combine junk code with incredible marketing to see Flash perform better than abominably on future crappy Windows tablets.

Do you people know that a lot of 2D animation studio have been using flash in production for years? It's an industry standard. It's also highly implemented with other Adobe software like photoshop and illustrator, allowing animator to easily edit elements and animate. Nothing against HTML5, but I doubt it can replace everything flash is capable. I find it surprising that pundits view flash as a one trick pony.

If this happens, imagine how many possible versions of the products would be out there...

Photoshop CS Ultimate
Photoshop CS Enterprise
Photoshop CS Standard
Photoshop CS Small Business Edition
Photoshop CS Student Edition
Photoshop CS Starter Edition...

Oh no... I hope it doesn't happen.

Negative

Like most of the non-brainless public, i see this as negative, but i have to wonder how many view this as potentially bad for Apple Inc., or instead, as I do, see it as bad for us because the few decent products that Adobe does make will be cursed by the Fail Curse that has plagued Microsoft for so many years. They will undoubtably be filled with complacency, a tendency to rely on Service Pack updates instead of actually engineering good products and will ultimately lead to the our phones being taken over by the Conficker-mobile Virus.

It's a good thing

Overall, Microsoft still clearly has an edge in the business market. There are very few businesses I've seen who use OSX for their tasks that require reliability, advanced security, and scalability.

Apple makes things pretty and easy to use for media consumption, and some media creation... and their laptops have great battery life... but I still find myself booting into Windows more than I do OSX.

The Adobe/MSFT merger would be a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Their photoshop and illustrator software is unparalleled. I don't think MSFT will screw with that technology too much.

As far as flash, remember it was Macromedia's baby, so it's not entirely Adobe's failed creation. And flash isn't a terrible technology just because it uses system resources. It has its uses, and it does a great job at presenting media. Could it be more efficient? Of course. But that doesn't mean it's not a useful way to present media while we wait for more efficient options.

I don't get these 2 sentences. We don't use Windows for those tasks either. That's where big Iron Unix still has its niche and where Linux is making in-roads.

I concur. I'll take a *NIX box any day over a windows server box - oh wait, I did - LOL

I cringe at the thought of running anything MS for reliability and security.

What's the point of this?

If MS and Adobe wanted Apple dead/dying, they should just discontinue Office and CS products for Mac. Only idiots use Apple iWork anyways.

Only idiots use Apple iWork? Are you implying that I'm an idiot because I use something I like that is more productive for me?

Stop being an idiot yourself and open your mind. It's people like you that create so much tension on the earth. That's right. Closed minded people create tons of problems. Before you say something stupid **** and think about it first.

On topic. I don't know. Windows 7 is great but Microsoft has buggy software in a lot of areas. I hope I am wrong and I want this to be a good thing but I can't help but be worried Flash will go from worse to even worse...

Although I have no love for Microsoft, this is probably a good thing for Adobe. They seem to be rudderless, probably in no small part due to the current CEO, who has replaced many of the old guard of Adobe/Macromedia with H1 visa Indian nationals. Everyone I've talked to at Adobe says the atmosphere is really terrible and divisive. Microsoft may be rudderless with Balmer at the helm, but at least they still believe in supporting the American economy and American jobs. And I think it would be good for the competitive landscape and keep Apple on their collective toes.

Though "Microsoft Photoshop" just sounds weird.

Microsoft has an edge in the business market? More like in the markets of business, gaming, media creation, media consumption, and pretty much everything aside from security (viruses, by the way, can be avoided if you're not a total imbecile.)

Windows does things better than Mac. Photoshop? Check. App compatibility and availability? Check. Better hardware? Check. More games? Check. Better Flash integration? Check. Better business tools? Check. Much more value for your money? Check.

Sometimes I really do wonder if these forums are made for the sole purpose of trollbaiting.

This is bad news.

What happens to software for the Mac when Microsoft acquires has been shown when Microsoft bought iView Media Pro (and renamed it "Expression Media"):

Poor support, bad upgrades, no development (like that crashing upgrade to EM2).

I hope this doesn't happen. Photoshop owned by Microsoft? A horror vision.

PS: Microsoft has sold Expression Media 2 to Phase One. Now there's a chance this software is going somewhere.

Apple has attacked Adobe with its ban on Flash for the iPhone/iPad. Let's hope Adobe doesn't get suicidal in its payback and merge with Microsoft.

I like the idea of Microsoft merging Adobe. Stop looking at it as becoming part of the Office suite and think about it in the other direction.

I think Adobe could make KILLER new versions of Word, PowerPoint, and Visual Basic. Microsoft NEEDS them. To me, they've always failed in making things like Publisher and Works, and Microsoft Paint has never changed since Windows 3.1. Heck, A LOT of their basic programs work almost the same way as they did in 3.1.

At the same time, I hope they come together to make a personal CS suite. Photoshop, a more iWeb-like Dreamweaver, and InDesign. I see so many poorly designed websites out there and I know that it's something that's WAY overdue. Bundle it up with a newly designed Office too. Charge $100 and you'll have a winner. Keep the other CS suites as they are, just add this to the lineup.

I LOVE iWork, although I wish Pages worked more like InDesign and you could move stuff more freely. Although, you could probably use Keynote for that.

Sorry, iWork is a piece of shіt. Only Keynote is half-impressive and that's it.

The iWork Suite is more like kiddy bullshіt compared to Office suite.

While I personally would agree with the comment that iwork is a very limited suite when compared to office it cant simply be written off! If you only need the features of iwork then it's pretty good. Just like sometimes the perfect application for writing is Textedit –*it's not always about the number of features!

I think Pages is better than Word. There are a lot of things I could never really figure out in Word and in Pages they are really simple.

Back to topic: If Microsoft bought Adobe and decided that Photoshop is Windows only now then we'd still have Bootcamp to run it in.
Hopefully that wont happen but hey, look what Apple did with Logic.

Apple should have bought Adobe when they had the chance.
Told you so.

Between this and the continuing failure to make Apple TV a product with obvious appeal to the mass market, one has to start wondering if it is time for the second firing of Steve Jobs.

Yeah, he's running the company into the ground. Look how poorly they've done since his return.

Haha, you don't have the slightest clue! ;)

I believe today is going to be the big 300!
(Check AAPL and you'll see why what you said is moronic. Apple has never been doing better! Also, the Apple TV rocks!!!)

What's with all the Adobe hatin' guys? Sure, Flash sucks. But Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects. Come on, they're awesome.

THey only suck if Microsoft is buying them. When there were rumors of Apple buying them they were all gooooood.
