Though buying Contribute Publishing Server (not updated since 2004 but still on sale with no mention that it won't install on Linux any more) should have told me this, those Adobe rats are real bastards.

PS> THis is probably not about a merger but about illegal (and unfortunately government-ignored) collusion to destroy a mutual competitor. Imagine if you saw AC, Fram, and AutoZone get together to talk about putting General Motors out of business?

MS buying Adobe (merger my a**) would be very bad news indeed. Apple has the cash, they need to buy Adobe themselves, keep the good, stop developing the bad (Flash), and make OS X versions a priority over Windows.

Yep, fight fire with fire. Apple needs to act to keep their agenda on top so buying Adobe would make sense.

Honestly, what does Adobe bring to the table in the mobile space? A crappy implementation of Flash? If Microsoft thinks that Adobe will help them catch Android and the iPhone, they're on some serious drugs. And whatever benefits Adobe might bring, Microsoft certainly couldn't do any exclusive deal for it on Windows 7 Phone 7 Ultimate Home Edition Premium, since that would get them in all sorts of anti-trust hot water.

This may just be FUD, but it isn't even effective FUD -- it has the opposite impact of making both these companies seem desperate and clueless.

Adobe can do a few things, like threaten Apple with dropping the Creative Suite. Though that might backfire. Adobe's not capable of greatness any more, but Apple might be able to find some people who ARE, and fund them...

I prefer Silverlight over Flash... it doesn't crash as often.

On that note, some of you in here are such fanboys. Really, if Microsoft buys out Adobe it's "bad", but then to imply that if Apple does it's "good"

Not surprised. Apple rejected flash support on iOS devices, why would you want to be involved with a company that doesn't support what you offer..

It'll be really interesting to see what Apple does when the new Blackberry Playbook is released. Because you can view websites the same way you can on a desktop, full flash support.

I don't know about you guys but I consume flash content every day.. I love Apple but the decision made to not include Adobe Flash sucked. Instead of being able to watch videos streaming on websites other then youtube you have download and convert etc.. which is a pain.. Infact I'm stuck doing just that everyday for my ipod touch.. I like to watch videos when in bed..

Anyway It would be kinda of funny to see if Apple eventually does adopt the flash player, just because the PlayBook has.. still I doubt it..

I know that HTML5 is the new standard, but I've said it before and saying it again, the transition is not going to happen overnight, it'll take a few years if not more.. A lot of websites rely on flash. Why not support Adobe Flash + HTML5, support for all websites now and the new ones that are coming.

Smart move, kill Photoshop and Adobe products on the mac and you can kill off Apple mac sales.

Microsoft is going back to old school style competition since they cannot innovate

It could be for Adobe's content creation suite. I am betting that MS would love to get a hold of Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere Pro. Also would make Apple users more dependent on MS. I'd have to admit, it'd be pretty sweet to have Acrobat Pro as part of MS Office.

well that would remove any last ounce of cool left within adobe and would open the door to some other company successfully releasing a photoshop replacement. Right now the odds of designers even bothering to look at alternatives to photoshop are slim-to-none. But if it becomes Microsoft Photoshop...we'll have a ton of designers instantly looking for anything that could remotely replace photoshop.

as a professional that makes my living using Adobe and Apple, this merger could spell disaster.
Microsoft will probably put the development for the Mac platform in second level for all Adobe products.
I wished Apple could just buy Adobe and be over with this drama. ;)

I think it's strange them meeting up to brainstorm how to compete with the iPhone/iOS. Surely it is pretty obvious. What's even stranger is that out of everyone, M/S are in the best position to do so. How has it taken them this long to come up with Win Phone 7, (which IMO is already behind the competition)?

I'm not liking this at all. The LAST thing I want is Microsoft to touch anything from Adobe. I use the entire Adobe Creative Suite and Mac in my profession, and the thought of anyone at Microsoft touching the software makes me shiver in horror.

In exchange for Flash on Windows Phones and a big check, Adobe agrees to stop supporting the Mac CS? I hope not!
