Yeah, I'm a designer aswell, and I rely on Adobe Software everyday. Its no secret Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator are the best applications available for us Web & Graphic Designers.. If somehow this means no CS5 on the Mac, then I would switch to a PC in a heartbeat.
Interesting reaction. If it happened the current software would be fine for a fair amount of time to come. Additionally, I expect Microsoft would try to generate revenue from CS, rather than use it as a tool against Apple, inviting legal trouble and angering users. That would buy another product cycle or two before it was (I am theorizing) screwed up. I expect such a move would have Apple scrambling to replace software themselves, but more importantly, the third-party market would hasten to develop or evolve its own solutions to complete and take advantage of the new Mac platform opportunity.

Please Please Make This Happen

I will be shorting the new Microsoft post merger. I can not wait for this to happen. I thought the AOL merger was the worst in history, this will be the death of Microsoft if the merger happens.

Poor Adobe has no where to go and Microsoft is in panic mode.

I love it :D

Office 2011 is still pretty slow for an office suite but I will take it and its features any day over the piece of crap that is iWork.

Well, you know what they say. A fool and his money are soon parted.

Why not?

It appears Apple is more interested in gadgets than in real computers. It should fit nicely with Apple strategy. Why would Adobe continue invest in Apple, same goes for Microsoft. As for Pros, they never being given much of choices anyway, so they will switch in a heartbeat, just like they always do.

2 Companies, that build build crappy software merging. How fitting! LOL

They should rename themselves ASOFT...LOL

Crappy from the perspective of a small boy who likes shiny toys. Talk about databases, enterprise, movie industry, and you get a different look at it.

I don't see this being good move however. Their DNA is totally incompatible. It will never happen. Maybe they release a mobile OS + device(s) together but that;s it.

Merger Approval

I don't see a merger getting approval because of the marketshare wielded in video playback by Adobes Flash and Microsoft's Silverlight.

As a designer I've used illustrator and photoshop for a VERY long time.

However, I've seen no reasonable upgrades since AI8.5 and PS7.

So, Adobe to my mind hasn't done much other than blote out it's software for years to the point where it is slow and hard to use.

That being said it is still the best product for the design industry at present.

Personally I'd jump to a sensibly priced, faster and more streamlined set of design products if available.

At present there are a few products on the cusp of being usable that are not quite there. It wouldn't take much for lineforms for example to be an alternative to AI.

So, if MS gobble Adobe I can see Apple finally making in house offering that are innovative and user friendly, with the subsequent competition between Apple and MS Adobe leading to price cuts and innovation which has been lacking since the demise of Aldus/Macromedia

I doubt much will change for a while, but who knows....

It would seem like an acquisition like this wouldn't be approved, but there have been some recently that seemed the same but were still given the thumbs up. Ticketmaster is a big one that comes to mind.

I'd say something like this shouldn't be approved, but based on other recent ones it certainly doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility.

There are so many ways this could go bad, I can't even pick one to think about.

If it did happen, Microsoft wouldn't be stupid enough to stop development on the OS X ports of Adobe products. Why would they? It's free money.

The thought of Microsoft handling Flash and PDF security upgrades scares the living hell out of me, though. Adobe's useless enough, but Microsoft?

Smart move by MS if it would be allowed

It would be a smart move by Microsoft if they can buy Adobe, it would get Microsoft into the Creative Professional Market, they could kill Flash off all together while adding Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and InDesign would be quite a Coup for MS.

I think an acquisition and/or merger would be fine given the rise of Apple and Google as well as the share of Microsoft and Adobe products on the others' platforms (flash for android, office for mac, etc.)

A lot of people here seem to have some belief that they're better off without Adobe/MS products (on their Mac or otherwise) but I guarantee they'd be the first to start whining if Adobe/MS discontinued Mac development.

Not me. It would have no impact on me whatsoever if both companies dropped off the face of the earth.

But I do understand I'm very much in the minority on that one.

Adobe can do a few things, like threaten Apple with dropping the Creative Suite.

I have thought of this scenario before and then I realized that Steve Jobs knows a few smart people at a company called Pixar. They could make an applications far superior to any Adobe puts out. (A huge fan of Adboe other than Flash.)

Really? So how come they haven't done so?

You do realize Mac marketshare is growing, not shrinking, right?

Pixar is not a software design firm.

Smart move, kill Photoshop and Adobe products on the mac and you can kill off Apple mac sales.

Microsoft is going back to old school style competition since they cannot innovate

For the same reason they stopped Office for Mac development, right? Oh, wait...

Adobe can do a few things, like threaten Apple with dropping the Creative Suite. Though that might backfire. Adobe's not capable of greatness any more, but Apple might be able to find some people who ARE, and fund them...

And they'll have a shareholder revolt of epic proportions on their hands; it makes zero business sense to even consider picking up that card, let alone playing it.

Mind = blown
