Yeah, but I'd think people would assume that I'm in college. Anyway, I'm glad that you don't use "young" as an insult like some people on YouTube do :)

Young is good. You're the future. There is much to learn in life. I have no idea what you mean by the YouTube remark, but I surely won't insult you for being young.

What tablet does Apple make that docks with a keyboard? Has USB? Micro SD? Runs Windows? An Intel processor?

Docks with a keyboard - iPad

Has USB - iPad - via the 30 pin connector

Micro SD ill grant you - long overdue

Intel processor - none - because apple values battery life - arm processor!

I think RIM would disagree with you.

No, it's good that Apple started competing with RIM by introducing the iPhone. Can you imagine if we were all still using a clunky phone with a really tiny keyboard that you could only send emails on, and you couldn't watch videos or play games on?

Battery life? Will be interesting.

I'm a little surprised in a good way. Didn't think Microsoft had this in them. They spent way too long in their presentation talking about the keyboard though. They still don't understand ecosystem, content, apps.

We'll see.

Microsoft has one of the biggest ecosystems in the world, it's called Microsoft Office. There's something else called market share, of which Windows on "desktop" machines is in the high 80%. Now, if this new tablet runs a Core processor, then the entire existing Windows software catalog will run on it. For example, the Adobe suite, and a lot of medical software.

This could easily turn into the Microsoft Air, and I think Apple will lose that battle. NOT for design, OBVIOUSLY, but for what you are calling ecosystem, content, apps.

a clear shot at the iPad's on-screen keyboard.

I come to MacRumors to read about this tablet, and I'm always amazed how they throw quotes like those as if the world revolves around Apple. In other computer website nobody would be thinking that at all, but rather Microsoft trying to sell the keyboard.

Anyway, I've been using Windows 8 and I can't believe I'm actually starting to like Metro. Will definitely get the Intel version since that way I'll have access to all my programs and settings.

I love reading the comments on Gizmodo's website. "Retina is a meaningless trademark" and "Human eyes cannot detect the difference in the retina display".

YouTube people and some Minecraft players who seem to take the whole "respect your elders" thing too far go all nuts if they find anyone who is still in school. It's especially dumb when they get mad at kids playing a rated "E" game.

Having heard the music of today, I don't blame people for suspecting us of having bad taste in music though. I listen to 70s stuff despite classmates making fun of me until Led Zeppelin came out on iTunes

New MS "Skin-Deep" Tablet

Wow, pretty cool hardware esp. with a neat cover keyboard! But alas, running a Win OS and no ecosystem, it would appear that Surface beauty may just be skin-deep.

Isn't MS not allowed to make hardware that runs Windows?

Did you miss the surface announcement? :b

If it were a general purpose capable system, Microsoft would have long since been pushing it towards the Education markets. It is not and never will be. Hacking the kernel or putting Linux/FreeBSD on it doesn't make it any more of a PC than it was when it was designed specifically as a Game Console.

Neither is the Sony PS3.

OK, I guess.

enjoy it while it lasts dude, life only gets hard from here - more stress, more financial problems, more responsibilities.

as much as you think homework sucks or studying for a test is annoying at least once you're done you're done. try having a manager on your @$$ for years.

seriously enjoy it while it lasts. study hard but enjoy the ride. pick a field in high demand like engineering, health care, or software development. my advice, if you are a technical person...don't go into engineering. this country doesn't appreciate engineers like they should. we always get slammed with R&D cuts, we have lower salaries than the Sales group, and we have to work long hours. go into health care and use your high income to do technical hobbies

Correct. There are many Microsoft people who act like sheep. They are just not very smart evaluating their needs, even if the best product is from Apple they'll never buy it.

They rushed out and bought Zune players insisting these were iPod killers. :D They use Bing. They think IE is the best browser. They love Windows 7 and Windows Phone 7. They believe Xbox 360 is the best console. They think Microsoft makes the best keyboards and mice. They refused to buy an iPad and have been prepared to wait all this time for the Microsoft tablet solution. Scary people.

I haven never met owners of Apple products who act like this. We love Apple products, but we're constantly on the look out for better products regardless of brand.

Really? Apple people are kinda known for crazy levels of fanboyism or whatever you want to call it. Isn't there people camping out for iPhones at release?

The second quote may be true in my case :(

If you want more hilarious comments, go to YouTube. For non-tech related things, you can find even more ignorant comments on conspiracy videos.

Someone said I was Kenyan (yes, using it as an insult ) because I capitalized words in the middle of a sentence (those words were "I" and "English"), which is apparently un-American. He then went nuts when I told him about proper nouns and cussed me out, explaining that you only capitalize "English" when you are referring to an English piece of land.

If you can't beat Apple, copy Apple. Nothing new here.

Um, Microsoft have been making tablets for many years prior to Apple's iPad.

Nothing new? USB 2/3, Full computing using Adobe and MS Office and more in an interface that's as simple, if not more easier to use than iOS.
It's definately new and I think it's worth a place within the market.

Docks with a keyboard - iPad

The iPad doesn't exactly "dock" with a keyboard, at least it doesn't without having to rely on a shell case to snap your iPad inside. It's not nearly as seamless as the (admittedly rather clever) smartscreen keyboard.

Has USB - iPad - via the 30 pin connector

...which is considerably more awkward than having a USB port alongside the unit.

Intel processor - none - because apple values battery life - arm processor!

MS uses ARM for their Windows RT tablets. You have the choice between the power of x86, or the longevity of ARM. Not that the sacrifice is all that huge these days. ULV x86 processors can (supposedly and/or allegedly) hit 6-7 hours of battery life under regular usage.

Holy Crap

I'm actually excited about a Microsoft product! I think the last time I felt like this was Windows 95! I hope that they don't blow it with poor battery life and crappy touch capabilities (that keyboard makes me worry about that).

I can't believe they came up with a design all on their own, with some real thought put into aesthetics and even though they didn't figure that most people use tablets on their laps and while commuting, the kickstand and keyboard cover are pretty neat ideas. Good luck guys!

Let's see how long it takes Surface to surface. I say 6-8 months, when the innards and innovations are no longer relevant. I mean come on, they're still Microsoft.

I'm going for computer science. Anyway, I'm going into 11th grade, which some alumni said was the worst year of their life. I can imagine a lot of people with much worse years of their lives, but the amount of pressure is intimidating.

Good post....

I'm not sure why people didn't catch this, but the Surface will be released alongside Windows 8. So October.
