Another sad ploy to entice subscription to 365...

How many corps actually use 365? Epic fail M$oft.

Aw Man! Subscription models are the way things are going and that is such a bummer!!

Edit: Hopefully reactions at E3 will point the trend in a better direction.

That would be awesome if I was a power user but all I ever do in Office is update my resume and keep track of my gas milage and repairs. This is the reason I still use Office 2008. I really wish they would have a stripped down and simple version of Office for us normal users so that we could put something simple together on our ipads.

It's called iWork !

My employer (one of the largest in Maryland) is switching to Office 365. It's gradual as there is a lot of integration with the existing "on-premises" Exchange and Sharepoint servers, but Office 365 is MS's future and it will at one point be cloud-based subscription only by MS design.

They waited as long as they could. Unless you need this for business there are so many better and cheaper ways to deal with documents in ios. Microsoft is becoming increasingly irrelevant. The fact ios 7 will use bing as Siri's default search shows that Apple has moved on to much more powerful and relevant companies in their war room.

OK - so I assume they don't want you using iOS to do much editing.

Observations so far for is I waited all this time Word/Excel/PowerPoint..?

Bingo!!!

This along with the stupid requirements of Xbox One, thanks a lot M$. You totally know how to give your customers what they want.

My advice to everyone that wants Office, continue to hold out. Windows Tablet is a failure, and when the subscriptions fail to come in, M$ will have no choice but to give us regular Office.

I doubt Office 365 makes much sense for the average consumer. Pages is looking a lot better in comparison

Bing is a Microsoft product.

Kind of funny how those buttons look like they're straight from iOS 7.

iOS 7 looks a lot like Windows 8.

Mine does.

What I'm wondering is - is this a web app, or an actual app? I'm not a big fan of HTML apps that try to act like regular apps. The user experience always feels compromised in some way.

Yeah, but how big is Maryland.

Not really meaningful.

When you step into the 300,000 employes running Office give is a call.

Piece of Garbage App

I downloaded and loaded a couple of my MS Word created documents (from Office 2011). Totally screwed up the layout and looked like crap. Open it in Pages and it is surprisingly looks fine. Go figure.

IMO, this app was thrown together and is no better than a basic text editor. No thanks, MS. How about trying harder?

Be nice if they'd release standalone products. 5 bucks each would be a fair price.
Not when they're getting about $9 per month from users. Best you'd see is a full purchase price of $200 or so.

I've seen other industry giants fall (Kodak, Smith Corona, ...). MS is getting to that inflection point.

And if I don't want to rely on 99$/y subscription because I want to work offline with my dropbox account, what app should I buy? I read some bad reviews for iwork apps on iphone/ipad. Price is not a concern, I want the best that can connect to dropbox and optional (box.net, copy).

I had a suite that was bought by google , cant remember the name but of course it is not developed anymore.

any other alternative?

Subscription based software is incredibly unappealing. I don't buy in. I have no desire to pay monthly or yearly for things I may or may not use. I want to buy the tool and that is the end of the payment scheming.

Anything that requires constant internet connection is also a no-go - won't buy. Internet connections are not reliable.

iWork is a stripped down and simple version of Office for normal users which allows them to put something simple together using an iPad.

I'm a designer, so I use InDesign for my resume. But I take meeting notes with Pages, budget family expenses and track my health/exercise with Numbers, and make quick slideshows of family events to send to my extended family with Keynote. My wife uses Numbers on her iPhone to track mileage, and Pages to view and edit her caseload paperwork when she is in the field. I'm not quite sure why more people don't use this software. It's perfect for phones and tablets. Perhaps the leather is a big turn off? I don't much care for it—but it's only a matter of time until that gets ripped out for good!

Really...iPhone?

Editing Office documents on an iPhone is an epic fail IMHO. I mean being able to view them is one thing but trying to force users to edit them on a small screen is like trying to merge the Laptop into a Tablet... wait a minute. People don't even use iPhones with a bluetooth keyboard they way the would with an iPad. Why they didn't make this for iPad first is beyond me.

Is there ANY leadership at Microsoft or has it become a million monkeys in front of a million screens?
