I'm sorry, the the idea of actually trying to work docs on something with a 2" wide screen seems ludicrous.

Ok, guys, read the whole paragraph, you apparently didn't make it to the end.

His point is that this proves that Microsoft is no longer Apple's competitor; Google is. If Microsoft was a threat then Apple wouldn't be putting Bing into the iPhone as the default because they'd be worried about Microsoft getting too much power over them.

The fact that they're not worried about that happening says everything.

I was directing my reply to the other poster who was contradicting himself.

That would be awesome if I was a power user but all I ever do in Office is update my resume and keep track of my gas milage and repairs. This is the reason I still use Office 2008. I really wish they would have a stripped down and simple version of Office for us normal users so that we could put something simple together on our ipads.

Go Google Docs and use the Google Doc app on your iOS devices...presto (and free).

I don't know how many corps actually use 365, but AFAIK, Office 365 has been the only new version of Office that you can buy in consumer stores (like Best Buy, Target, etc) for the last six months.

No, wrong on both counts. Office software is still offered for sale at all retail stores that have sold it in the past if that is what you stupidly want.

Office 365 sales to Corps are off the charts. I know- it put my formally profitable company out of business. Now my new company sells Office 365!

I know, I was remarking how Apple was "inspired" by MS, not the other way around.

True, and I have a confession to make, I actually kinda like the new 'icons' scheme MS came up with (too bad Windows 8 itself sucked). At least they are original and not a rip-off like Android.

Another sad ploy to entice subscription to 365...

How many corps actually use 365? Epic fail M$oft.

Office 365 is perfect for small business. It contains pretty much all of the computer software services they'll need and at such a small price. Just because you have no need for it, doesn't make it an epic fail by any means.

Windows 8 is great
just replaced my macbook with a ultrabook, or whatever its called
it really comes into its own with a touch screen

why is this a big deal? It would have mattered before Google Drive, before Pages didn't suck, before Dropbox, or Files, or a dozen other more useful, non-subscription apps. It doesn't matter anymore. too late, Microsoft. Too Late.

Says you from your Apple centric view of the world.
Not for corporate users who for the most part use office and still have iPhones.

This. I think a lot of people that have an issue w/ Office products for individual use, fail to realize how heavily they are relied upon by corporations of all sizes.

Nice adapting! A true business man!

It will definitely be great for corporations which is MS's bread and butter. Seemingly their only market where they're gaining market share as well. For the average user it doesn't matter. I use a PC at home in addition to my Mac but haven't had Word on it since Google Docs was introduced. I can do everything there that I need. Also $139.99 word processing software is completely out of touch with modern software pricing. Corps will pay whatever because they buy licenses in bulk anyways, but for traditional consumers used to paying $59.99 or less for even the latest greatest games, software, and apps, why in the hell would they pay well over $100 plus a subscription fee to do something that 15 other apps they've already been using do for free?

I'm sure this has already been noted previously, but wow that seems expensive. I can buy iWork for $15. Yes, I know that's not the same thing and I know everyone uses Office, but it seems like a big investment by comparison.

I'm downloading this right now on my work iPhone, the company I work for has already switched to 365 and its not exactly a small company ;)

The IT department here likes the 365, it's actually cheaper than the old business model with better support and integration

$99 per year for 5 computers is a far cry less than buying the software as a package on a every two or three year cycle as Office tends to be released for those same 5 computers. At $99 a year you always have the latest version. When you do the math, yes you are locked into a subscription model, but at the end of the day if you're a heavy Office user that upgrades on the release curve it's cheaper.
