I wonder what will happen to the Seattle seahawks. As man or never married or had kids, what will happen with his fortune and the team.

RIP, so sad.

He really wasn't active in Microsoft, he reportedly came up with the name, and helped market Basic, he more or less left the company but kept his ownership stake.

Thanks for that heads-up. I was trying to remember what Allen's technical contributions were at Microsoft.

Sadly another person dies from cancer treatment. When will the madness end?
Well, Steve Jobs tried vegetable juices and meditation. How’d that work out for him? Maybe pancreatic cancer is just a crappy disease, Mr. Wizard. And please share with us your insider knowledge of islet cell carcinoma and Paul Allen’s specific treatment course while you’re at it.

He’s just another science denier. Let it go.

He didn't 'battle' cancer - he had a terminal disease that was no doubt treated with the best standard of care. And he died, rather than 'passed away'.

Oh it's definitely a personal battle, not just treatments.

You have to come to grips with a lot of things, while still carrying on your daily responsibilities.

It's tough.

I haven't seen any comment from Bill Gates! Has he made any?
RIP Mr. Allen
Bill Gates Mourns His Microsoft Co-Founder Paul Allen: 'Personal Computing Would Not Have Existed Without Him'

From the MR story:
"I am heartbroken by the passing of one of my oldest and dearest friends, Paul Allen. From our early days together at Lakeside School, through our partnership in the creation of Microsoft, to some of our joint philanthropic projects over the years, Paul was a true partner and dear friend. Personal computing would not have existed without him.

But Paul wasn't content with starting one company. He channeled his intellect and compassion into a second act focused on improving people's lives and strengthening communities in Seattle and around the world. He was fond of saying, "If it has the potential to do good, then we should do it." That's the kind of person he was.

Paul loved life and those around him, and we all cherished him in return. He deserved much more time, but his contributions to the world of technology and philanthropy will live on for generations to come. I will miss him tremendously."

Thanks Paul for your contributions. Though I use a Mac and most likely will never use a Microsoft product, your contributions, either directly or indirectly, are still there in every piece of modern computing.

Nature does not care about your money, you can be rich and have untreatable cancer, or poor and have a very surviveable cancer.
Or, like SJ, be rich and have a very survivable cancer turn into an unsurvivable cancer through bad decisions...

Jus' sayin'...

BTW, Paul Allen was also a Mac user.

According to a musician friend of a musician friend of mine, who also lived in Seattle, and who once went to Paul Allen's studio to lay down some tracks, Allen reportedly equipped his yacht-based personal Recording Studio with Macs...

No mention that his 300 ft yacht destroyed a large swath of coral reef which he at first tried to fight before agreeing to fix it. I never feel sad for the uber rich.
