"This device is created to go head to head with the iPod Touch,"

Exactly why the device will fail to be succesful, when companies create something to compete with another thing that was truly inventive and obiously created with passion, it will utterly fail. Sad... if only MS could put their efforts in creating instead of copying out of jealousy the world might become a little better
This, original zune revisited.

first_generation_mini_i.jpg

looks pretty gross to me

I'll give you that one...never was a fan of that mildew green color.

If I'm not mistaken, the iPod minis were out around the same time I had the original 30 GB Zune. That particular Zune did in fact look *slightly* better than this particular iPod mini.

I really appreciate that the only reason why this is dumb (note that no one here has touched or even seen the thing IRL) is because it's ugly* and because of the weak software**

*bull, It's a similar design to what Apple's been doing.

**which, again, no one here has any information on.

Tell me again what makes an iPod touch so much better? The App Store? Do you all not remember that the first generation iPod didn't have an app store? Yet, I'm sure all of you would be attacking this Zune even if it were out before the iPod touch.

The ZuneHD is abit late to the game, but that doesn't mean it won't sell. If I know anything from previous Zunes, its that the SQ will be excellent (better then the generic ipod tin), and I find the GUI pretty tasteful. Of course, neither the iPod touch or ZuneHD can stack up to my Cowon S9, but hey, feel free to dream.

Mobile IE??? Talk about coding nightmare. If it handles CSS differently than the current IE 7 and 8, people will be upset and designers will be forced to add more CSS specifically for another browser?? Not this one, this is really getting old. I think it is time we web designers start boycotting IE. If it renders wrong, its the end users problem. Download Firefox or Chrome. If we all do it, Microsoft will be forced to adopt Web kit along with the rest of the world. I just spent an hour rewriting my entire sites CSS just to try and get it to work in IE8, and guess what, I lost IE6 functionality.

Anybody remember the guy that got the Zune Tattoo? I heard he switched over to the iPod after his invitation to Redmond, WA was cancelled. Maybe this version of the Zune will get him to go back to the Zune.

Yeah, the Zune Guy has been mentioned hundreds of times here...in the end he saw the light and got an iPod touch. The End. ;)

A reminder kids. Remember this thing doesn't come out until Fall so don't go comparing a future product to a current one. With the way technology goes Apple will have a better product by fall I'm sure. They are way ahead of the curve. In this instance they started the curve so let's wait to compare a current product to a current product.

ymmv :)

What kind of magical (crippled) home theater system do you have that only accepts audio from iPods and not any device?

Of course, we all know that those DRM-free movies and shows Apple sells are better.

I guess your not thinking right or at all.. The last year or so Home Theater have iPod dock and adapters build in.. So you can control your iPod using your Home Theater remote.. You can not do that with Zune or other MP3 player..

And XNA of course.

iPods didn't blow up until itunes came to the PC. If 3rd party accessories are your thing I def. agree, iPod is the obvious better choice (tho most do have a AUX / line in input these days as well). Same with OSX only.

But if its not important, then it'll do fine.

Its weird, I actually see more zunes than I would normally expect on my commute in the morning.....but of course, far more iPods. As I said before, I personally like my Zune 80 more than my Classic.....but i'm not trying to convince anyone to like something, it just seems many people just bash the Zune cause its MS.

Yes but can you control your music through the AUX/line in? Nope.. I mean by changing the songs without touching the MP3 player..

You would expect that. I like the Zune's interface and the software for Windows is top notch.
I agree. I was just trying to figure out how I could get my media collection to my Windows partition. My options don't look good, and until I can find a good way I'll have to hold off on picking that bad boy up.

That is the point. It is only for Windows.. So I see no point in owning a device that only works on Windows.. I bet I am not the only one that feels the same way..

>DRM'd out the wazoo
>uses a Mac

Im sorry but you seem to have a logical fallacy in your post sir.

I don't see it. What DRM do Macs have? Windows has all that activation garbage (which has a tendency to screw legitimate buyers on occasion); Macs have nothing.

WOW, a touch control portable player! Where did they get THAT idea from?

Archos. Same place Apple got it from.

But really, who cares? What matters is how good it is. Who gives a **** which company thought of it?

Edit: LOL, sorry FX120 - I *really* didn't see your response before I wrote mine...

mmm

I give M$ credit for trying. But they can never design a pretty product. This better not cost more than an iPod though.

Its a start somewhere in the basement.
