Entirely possible. Using similar components is not the same as rebranding though.

Indeed not,

But if samsung have been outsourced and supply the screen and chassis, then rebranding is a closer possiblity.

anyone know who supplies the OLED and its immediate components?

Why do you hate Zunes?

Hate is a strong word, but I wouldn't choose zune based on the pc software alone.

It can't play videos full screen and it is awkward navigating your library.

Reason enough not to trust it to manage my multimedia.

After seeing Ballmers closeup on this, MS looks like they finally have a project that is appealing. Its deffinatly a stunning piece of hardware, that screen is gorgeous.

I may give this a try IF IF IF all the reviews are good.

I had an original Zune and it was an absolute waste of space that I did not like

But, I like to give new things a try and if Microsoft improves on it, I will try it out

It's not you. It's the iPhone. When you type on the phone and in a forum, with the screen is split between keyboard and a little space above to see what you have typed. Like right there, hitting spacebar twice did not insert a period if i turn on sound, the iphone typing lags, off I won't hear if a space gets inserted when I know it should. Plus auto correct messes it up a bit.

Peace.

I

I'm with you. Sorry, didn't want to come across harsh or unfriendly. Actually that is a feature in the iPhone that could be improved.

I bet the Zune HD is better at this :p Oh well, probably not ;)

Looks good. Not revolutionary, but a good portable media player with a bright screen and radio.

Like 'The Faces'. Would have seemed groundbreaking - if you hadn't heard the Stones.

do they make zune software for the mac?

I tried it on my pc this morning and it is a lot less usable than iTunes with some annoying flaws.

Mac users aren't missing anything.

iTunes has substance, Zune's style just gets in the way of actually using it and and it won't play video full screen.

You should see it - blocky video (compared to Media Player) dark grey bands up the side, black letterbox and a windows taskbar!

It

is

a

MESS.

I hate that the words do not fit on the screen

It REALLY doesn't fill you with confidence does it?

Like a dentist with halitosis or an accountant with a poor credit rating - there are just some warning signs you don't want to ignore.

If they miss something that obvious - what else have they let slide?

"Holy black levels."

Really can't tell that much from the video - all i can see is that bloke reflected in it.

'iTouch'

Its right and wrong at the same time, rather like arguments that descend into pedantry.

Maybe an apostrophe would help, or a bit less coffee? ;)

It's easier and quicker to type iTouch than iPod touch. Do you complain when someone refers to their laptops as "MBP" as opposed to MacBook pro? Why not?

It's iPod Touch. Apple didn't name it iTouch for many reasons, one of them being it sounds ugly, another being it's an iPod.

OK, OK, OK... I've fixed it... Sheesh :D

1. Again, its an obvious design choice. They don't cut it off where youcan't tell the word, its half of an E. Next, look at the transitions, it clearly is by design. If you don't like it...then don't like it....but then don't try to associate that with saying the Zune HD will be half assed...cause then its a reach.

And no, the black levels look great from the video and the pictures:

Hard to even see where the bezel begins. Besides, OLED is known for its great black levels and contrast. You know damn well if the iPhone does indeed have OLED and they showed a screen shot people would be going wild.

Very, very true. Funnily enough, I find the cut-off "e" kinda appealing. Looking at the gizmodo video:

1) Physically, it's a "meh".
2) Gorgeous screen.
3) I like the UI more than the iPod Touch's.
4) Did I mention the screen?
5) The scre.... Oh.

P.S. Seriously, regarding the "Microsoft missed the cut-off "e", ZOMG" comments: Do you honestly think that they missed it, that it was a mistake? I don't care how much you hate Microsoft, it's obvious it was intentional. They're not that incompetent.

Everyone be sure to check out the gizmodo video, the UI looks quit impressive save for that "e." The transitions are lightning fast. It looks like the resolution won't be that much of a let down after all now that weve seen some actual videos and photos on the device. If it comes in a 64 gig model I'm sold. *crosses fingers for A2DP*

All MP3 players needs this by now.

Ya know....I think the UI on the iPhone works with how it is, but on the Touch it seems so "blah" and boring which some people of course like.

But I think there is a lot of wasted screen on the Touch.

I can't believe I'm gonna say this....I want one. BUT I will wait to see what the new Touch will bring.

Sexy.

Wish Microsoft would get it to work with iTunes like the Pre is said to, or at least get the Zune Marketplace on OS X. I hope the product generates enough buzz to develop a client for the Mac (that isn't via Parallels).

So all this "windows 7 is a threat", "windows 7 is the best OS, the world has ever seen", "windows 7 is awesome", "windows 7 has the best drivers", "windows 7 is the fastest OS ever", "windows 7 looks best" "windows 7 has the most advanced user interface"

is all promotion. For Microsoft.
Replace Windows 7 with Vista, and youv'e got deja vous, all over again.

And for the people criticizing the "marketplac," screen images on all electronics are simulated. Its a goof on the PR department's part, not the device itself.
A pretty blatant goof, if you ask anyone in the industry. However, the actual Zune HD has been demoed, and sure enough, the word "Marketplac" don't fit.

Mobile IE?
Windows CE in general makes this a bloated crasher.
True that.

Hahahaha..... Or a company which released the original Zune.

A magnifying glass icon is synonymous with search fields. Apple didn't patent that and Microsoft should by no means be considered copying them by using it.
The overall design seems to be copied from Tiger, nevertheless:
