Ate they planning to separate the North American and Oceania Microsoft version from the international version of Tic Toc completely or how are they going to make sure that no date leaks to China?

I dothat this is even possible.
What a stupid idea to only buy a part of the service.

All of this will be a huge flop. Microsoft has never ever been able to make a successful consumer focused product. Xbox was alright but no match to the PlayStation.

As if Microsoft won’t find a way to “spy” on you using their app.

Microsoft is right up there with Apple when it comes to privacy. MS is not spying on you.

That's the modern tech cycle: spy then advertise. Windows morphed from an operating system into a data collection and advertisement platform. This will be more of the same.

Nope, Microsoft isn't like Google in that respect.

At least one thing is for certain if MS acquires TikTok. All fears for spying on its users will just be irrelevant. MS would never spy on any of its users, TikTok, Windows, or any other hahahahahahahahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Only a fool would think MS and Apple aren't serious about security (but one is also a fool if you think everything is truly secure).

Point is MS would loose their cloud business if companies lost faith in MS privacy polices.

Don't confuse MS with Google.

Just like Skype. Bye, bye ....
GOOD ANSWER! I don't use Skype or Zoom and never have, but with all the talk lately about Zoom, I have been wondering what ever happened to Skype? Did they just fall off the Earth of what?

I agree Microsoft and Apple have pushed forward security and antivirus and the like. We have a little think in the United States called lawyers so if any US companies do something illegal these companies have a lot to loose in the United States just on PR alone for the company. So these companies have no interest on your personal information. They make so much money now, they really don't care about Joe Blow little person personal information.

I find it interesting the people care about their personal security information and they blast all their personal information over Facebook, YouTube, twitter, instagram and tick-tok and worry about a company.

Skype was the go to professional communications app 10 years ago. Whether it being friends, family or corporate meetings, everyone knew Skype. After Microsoft purchased it, they diminished its appeal, they bundled it with MS Office suite, they added advertisements, forced you to merge your Messenger with it, something that infuriated me because in my eyes Skype was for my professional activities while Messenger was for friends and family. Anyway, at some point they added “stories” because Snapchat was doing it, they made the UI clunky and system resources poorly managed.

The original developers famously said that they made a mistake selling to Microsoft nd that Google was a more ideal successor to their work.

I wouldn't trust any CCP apps at all cost, even if America companies like Microsoft buys them.

I'd rather America companies to make their own TikTok-like, not buying from China. I'd rather Instagram Reel over CCP Tiktok anytime these days.

because the 1,000 TikTok employees in Santa Monica, CA are double agents?

🤦‍♂️

so...he just got played by China again. how many billions of US $$ are we sending them now for this stupid a$$ app?

There is no "we" because you are not sending anything.

The Chinese have banned a long list of US tech companies from China, the US then suggests to ban a Chinese company from the US and we are upset by this.. why? Curious as to what makes people think that the US should invite Chinese competition into the marketplace when the Chinese refuse to let American companies into their marketplace? +Data concerns.. does not make sense to me.

Isn’t what Trump did kind of illegal? He basically made sure Microsoft or any US company can buy it cheaper. Almost seems like a ploy

So nobody has a problem that the POTUS just forced a non-US company to get sold to a US company? TikTok had already started to retain all US data in the states. Just think the EU would turn to Microsoft and say, hey, we don’t trust that those servers in Ireland don’t send data back to the US. You have to sell or be blocked.

You can make any product you can dream of, but getting users at the level Tiktok has is a pipe dream.

Ahhh thanks for the explanation. Makes sense to me now. That's a shame.

POTUS did not force anything to happen nor does he have the authority to. He is just a cog in the wheel of government. I don't see what the concern about it was as there is nothing the Chinese could discern from the creator of those videos other than the fact that everyone participating in TikTok has the brain of pea. They certainly will not find any national secrets, nuclear codes, or top secret plans.

It will wither away under Microsoft's watch as the users migrate to the next hot social media site.

Taken out of context of current geo-political happenings, I would fully agree. In context with our current situation....nope.

GPS locations of key US personnel that won't stop using it.

Since when was Skype "Professional"?? Maybe for small businesses, but none of the companies I worked in or with ever used consumer Skype as a professional conferencing solution. It's always been consumer focused...hence the ads and merging with your Messenger.

It's all going to be replaced with Teams. Teams for personal use is released in beta now. Let's hope MS gets it right this time.

Watching Microsoft try to 'lifestyle' their brand is the equivalent of seeing your dad in skinny jeans...
Not really - they are running their brand around. Surface has been a big inflection point. Writing them off a bad idea. Fanboys on the forum might, but Apples strategy folks will be taking them seriously.

Exactly my thoughts, this will be the end of TikTok.

Or the total opposite, Microsoft has this incredible ability of turning cool, successful or thriving businesses/apps into the most hideous or unwanted services.

Question: do you travel?
