Not that we don't know what is going on in Cupertino's secret labs but the last couple of years has been pretty boring. The MP has really limited use, a FCP dongle as it was described in a forum. The mini has as many disadvantages as advantages when compared to the previous version. There is still no Mac for hardware enthusiasts, also no current display or 17" laptop.

Other than silly social stuff and a "new look" OS X really isn't any better than it was a couple of versions ago. So sad.

Deep down in Cupertino's secret research lab....

Jony Ive: "must make everything thinner....":mad::mad:

So Microsoft is making smartboards from the 2000's and VR headsets from the 1990's now?

Goes great with their operating system from the 80's.

From Apple:

1. Tabletop computer running iOS/OS X variant

2. Return of the 17" MacBook Pro, or a large(er)-screen Retina MacBook Pro

3. 12" iPad not large enough - 17"or larger needed!!

4. Retina Thunderbolt display!!

5. Complete line-up of displays again, ranging from 27", 32" etc - 5K

6. 2TB Flash drives

Some sour grapes noted from some posters.

You have to give credit where it is due. MS made some exciting announcements about some very exciting new products.

Been wat I've been waiting for since Leap Motion came out. (know this will likely be Kinect exclusive)

When I bought the Leap for testing I had this sort of idea in mind. But with standard flat 2d UI's air based gesture control doesn't work. It's not natural and feels very unintuitive.

VR is the likely solution as Leap has jumped on board with Occulus to try and bring about an immersive 3d realm, but it's good to see that this sort of technology is now being driven by one of the big boys.

HOpefully this will start driving change to UI mindset towards a true 3D driven UI that is more intuitive.

or it'll be a miserable flop

50/50 either way, but I think tech geeks are clamouring for some new type of UX out of the standard point and click WIMP paradigm

These look like cool devices, however....

This is MAC rumors - these two devices (an 84 inch touch display and a reality headset) have NOTHING to do with Apple. Apple doesn't compete with these types of devices. This article should NOT be on this site.

Watches, sure. Tablets, sure. Phones, sure. Talk about Windows 10? Sure. But not every drone helicopter story, or anything that Apple is not doing.

MicrosoftRumors.com ?

Why does everyone complain when something non-Apple gets posted on the site? Microsoft is a direct competitor to Apple, which makes this information relevant on this site. Not everything on MacRumors is about a Mac rumor...hence the MacRumors tagline "news and rumors you care about"

If this works as well as the Kinect, MS could be on to something awesome.

Pretty sure I haven’t seen any impressive games with Kinect. It was always much more gimmicky than necessary. Even the HoloLens demo showed how inaccurate the gestures still are, there is much room for improvement still (but that’s OK for this product, since its in very early stages at this point).

Great! More nerdy head things that nobody wants to buy.

It feels like the early days of tablet computing. And I mean the really early days. Back when Microsoft had 1" thick tablets running Windows XP and required a stylus for any input. Maybe there is something here, maybe not. If there is, I expect Apple to come out with something familiar yet unexpected and different that actually solves a problem. It will probably only do a quarter of the things the other nerdy head thing makers can do, but it will do those things extremely well and with style. The market will take off as people will actually start using nerdy head things because they look less nerdy and more normal. Some company will figure out how to copy Apple's success, there will be lawsuits, and eventually Apple will settle in as one of the top premium unnerdy head thing manufacturers in the world. Over time it will gain lots of features. Analysts will be worried about the sales cannibalizing the Apple Watch, and the iPhone and iPad will be relegated to 2nd place like a Macintosh, which has been simplified into two models: iMac and MacBook. Also Apple TV never gets an update. The end.

It's pretty clear this site has evolved into a rumor and news site that focuses on Apple-related information as well as news regarding their competitors. Should MacRumors give up their brand/domain because they have the capacity to cover more information these days even when the main focus of the website is still Apple-related news? MacRumors isn't just about Mac rumors.

Should be.
This is the future Apple is up against, and it's combating with a watch and "thinner".
Unless the 5 year plans have this already beat, Cook and Ive better be startled.

Meanwhile in Cupertino, where Apple's sitting on more money than most countries have, they've...

...determined after years of making 11" notebooks and 13" notebooks, that really, they should make 12" notebooks.

Awwwesooome.

Yes, products that are wanted and actually work as promised.

if this site did nothing but Apple related news, you'd have one post a week, maybe even less in-between cycles.

I rather enjoy that they do more industry related news. Believe it or not, what Microsoft is doing does have impact on Apple. Pretending that Apple exists in it's own bubble is disingenuous

Yeah, too bad that more games weren't developed for Kinect that could take advantage of the interface.

Hopefully this HoloLens will be embraced and game developers will utilize the interface.

84" is not a tablet, it's a table.

Once we get past finding fault because Apple is not behind this, think about the possibilities. For one...

Touch screen air hockey anyone?

Not so long ago, one way for arcade games to be played were with tabletop models: http://arcadeclassics.net/cocktail-table-arcade-machine-horizontal-games/ (take a look at the list on that page if you remember these kinds of machines). I remember having a lot of fun with friends gathered around relatively small screens without touch and feeding machines like that quarters.

Variations of every board game (Monopoly, Game of Life, etc) gone electronic could be reimagined on a "table" like this. Variations of casino games gone electronic could be reimagined on a "table" like this. Etc. All kinds of multiplayer games could be built this way too- maybe capable of having upwards of 10 or 15 players at once (imagine 5 on 5 basketball where each player is controlled by one of your friends) or even football where every player on the screen could be controlled by one of your friends. Full-size (or bigger than full size) digital pinball anyone? Etc. Angry Birds could evolve into Angry Pterodactyls. Candy Crush could cause diabetes.

And that's just gaming potential.

I know we have to hate on it because this wasn't an Apple product announcement but it looks like there's more there than purely enterprise applications. In other threads, some of us are spinning the concept of an "iPad Pro" as being a better game machine due to a bigger screen. Think about the same enthusiasm on a gigantic, touch "table" gaming device.

I agree. What I've come to understand, and maybe I'm completely wrong, is that Apple is actually a pretty conservative company.
