Saving grace for Apple, for now, is iPhone, iPad, wearables, services. But, that's no guarantee either.
I listened to the Upgrade podcast tonight and Jason Snell was setting the bar quite high for WWDC (and complaining a lot about Siri). I can’t remember the last WWDC that felt this consequential.

I believe this is Win 11 ARM that has significantly modified core components and they do not have to support legacy systems. So, it might not be as bloated. I don't know, I am just expecting it to be so.
not bloated and not able to run stuff?
would be very fast when you try to run something incompatible - and it pops up "can;t run this".

Microsoft tried ARM on a tablet/laptop a while back. Didnt set the world on fire then.
Unless they sort out how to run legacy code - and well - then it's a hard move forward...

Keep the same energy when Apple does it with iOS and Mac OS
isnt part of the issue with Win AI that it sends to servers for everything and is slow?
if Apple put at least some AI on device, it should be more responsive. Should be the operative word. And how much is local as well...

MS has Prism emulator while Apple had Rosetta 2. They say it will solve the problem. Unless we see some real-life tests that prove otherwise, we don't have to doubt their claim. Earlier, they did not have all the major OEMs behind them because of the issues that you specified. Now they have all the OEMs behind them. They must have seen something that made them go all in.

you do know Apple just makes the emoji that a standards body says are new?

it's hardly worth all the noise about them.
even Apple could just press release them now.
Is there any other OS whose change log (new features log) prominently features Emojis? I have not come across any, but if you can show me, I will stop making these comments :)

Apple turns out to be behind the curve on AI again.
They're ahead of the curve.

Apple’s problem (not even a mistake) was choosing to market the feature/abilities as ML rather than AI.

Man, with other tech companies pulling out AI magic at every big event.
All I’ve heard about is chatbots and generative media. So, something for the “I’m bored!” crowd and an additional something for the dimwitted, greedy social media “stars” to easier spread lies and other nonsensical garbage.

P.S. Generative media is fun and has its usefulness for some professionals who are otherwise creative. However, at least in my opinion, it’s a better fit as a supplemental tool (e.g., correcting grammar, data organization, object identification).

Looks like a good machine for those looking to purchase a Windows computer

Really? You must be new.
GPU accelerated ring any bells?
How about 3D?
Transparent?
Web based?
32bit? 16bit? (yet somehow overlooked 64bit).
Subscription fees?

Any of this?
It's not difficult to see this is a more unique situation. Most of the things you just mentioned are terms tech geeks are very familiar with. AI is a different animal and even my wife has heard a lot about it and she knows nothing about the examples you mentioned. Sorry

First time in a long time Apple has their back against the wall.

Apple is a $3 trillion dollar company that doesn't even sell cloud computing services and has a massive R+D department that are always experimenting with new ideas long before the public knows about them.

Over half of Microsoft and Amazon's market capital is from cloud computing, not their user facing products because their hardware and software products are ****.

So happy my desktop PC is missing an NPU - it'll prevent Microsoft from ramming this garbage down my throat. It might be time to finally ditch Windows and move to Linux full time.

Curious to see if Apple will be as heavy handed with it with MacOS. Guess we'll find out soon.

It’s basically Windows Vista 64 bit with a skin, new drivers and Direct X 12.
Not true at all.

Every Windows OS in the last 20 years has just been a reskin like that. Many of the admin apps haven’t even been reskinned since Windows XP.

macOS does major reboot from the ground up every five or so years. Every year is a major rebuild that requires many apps to be updated.
The look of some old settings menus didn't change for compatibility reasons with older applications not for other reasons like "it's a skinned version of Vista".

The impression is that MacOS and iOS have generally lost, no new ideas, no improvement beyond stupid emojis. Windows on ARM looks far superior and in file management, far better. It is a real computer after all. iPad can only be used for watching Netflix and its not suited for any kind of real work, that has to deal with file management.
On hardware side, new Elite X is also almost as good as M3.
Conclusion: Apple lost the mobile computing crown.

They're on stage comparing to Apple, but Apple is a proxy. The competition here is with Intel, but nobody wants to bite the hand that's fed them for decades, so they're hoping people can work out the transitive property they're implying.

For the time being, Apple is simply on a parallel trajectory.
Yeah, they’ve posted the video now and they even bring up Intel and AMD even though nothing being presented was made by them :)
