Microsoft Debuts New Dual-Screen Devices, Updated Surface Laptops and More

Great hardware, amazing innovative gadgets, unbelievably cool and sophisticated..... still Winduh..s.

Interesting they never said what OS it was going to run. Just that it will run all Android apps.

Looks really cool!
The Surface Duo phone is running Android OS.

The only exciting thing here is the Surface Pro X, and it's not exactly groundbreaking, just a product finally maturing into what it should have been all along.
The Surface Pro X does look exciting, I agree but for day to day use, the 15" Surface Laptop is calling my name. If only Apple made a 15" MBA

umm, its running android. so maybe get the facts right
You're half right. The Surface Duo phone is running Android. The Surface Neo folding tablet is running Windows 10X, meaning it's a version of Windows 10 developed specifically for folding PC category.

Think I'd like it better if they designed the hinge differently - so it minimized the seam/bezel between the two screens when open.

Interesting idea though. Wonder if you can install Linux on them?

So it’s the Courier but announced 10 years later and won’t ship for another year. Just so Microsoft can get news cycles about how they’re supposedly out innovating Apple. And anyone who is skeptical will just be branded a butt-hurt Apple fanboy.

Nice hardware, terrible software.

The recent iterations of the Surface hardware definitely look nice... but, from what we've seen here (in our university department), it tends to be problematic. We've run into significant issues with both Microsoft Surface hardware itself and also Microsoft's support software for the devices (such as drivers).

This was like an example of how to do everything wrong with an unveil. Apple hasn't innovated much lately, especially with their PC's, but at least they are still World #1 by a thousand miles at revealing new products and making consumers excited to buy and use them.

Apple:

Warm, inviting conferences
Well-paced, sharp speakers with rehearsed, rarely cringey presentations
Products available to pre-order/buy within a week of reveal
Sleek, minimalist designs, artistic lines, form and function blended together
Steve Jobs/Tim Cook make me feel like they might literally bring me milk and cookies

Microsoft:

Confrontational speaker in disturbing galaxy shirt accusing journalists of "doing their jobs" poorly.
Walking in and out of the rows like Maury about to reveal who the father of the Surface Neo is.
Products available to pre-order/buy maybe in another year lol
Earbuds that look like pop sockets, giant disgusting bezels on phones in 2019 (correction 2020), visible hinges making the tablet look like a Leapster device.
This presenter made me feel like I was being cross-examined on the witness stand.

I was excited for Microsoft to reenter the cell phone market honestly. I owned a Windows Nokia 1520 phone and loved it. It had an incredible processor, plenty of RAM, X-Box games, offline/online Nokia gorgeous road atlas maps, flashy colors, amazing 20 megapixel camera, and a giant screen before it was cool. It needed app support, but the core Windows operating system was excellent and I enjoyed the phone. But these devices are dead on one-year-from-now-arrival, I wasn't interested in any of them, and frankly the presenter was so rude I wouldn't buy these products even if I saw them at Best Buy this weekend.

I knew I should have copyrighted my design for a two glass screened foldable device a couple of years ago.

They need to somehow completely eliminate the bezel at the fold area, then figure out a hinge mechanism that pulls the two halves together to create an almost seamless single screen. Until they do that, I don’t think most people will accept these device in their current iteration. Having that area in the middle really forces you to use two apps side by side, or one app on one side and the other just as an empty desktop.

It’s good to see Microsoft trying, but they’re seemingly accepting device implementations for the sake of having something different, not because it’s a good design or smart feature.

Ahh stop it with the folding phones! Why would anyone want to complicate their daily, casual phone usage? Do people really want clunkier phones? Is a 2x screen size at the expense of everything else really that important? They literally solve no problem, it's just a "why not" device.

Thankfully for Microsoft, they have so much money that they HAVE to waste it on stupid sht like this and see what sticks.

Godlike innovation. This, Apple. This. This is what innovation looks like. Not that APFS crap. Not that triple camera crap. Not that FaceID crap. Not that A13 Bionic crap. Not that Swift crap.

I cannot wait to get these and be more productive. Watching two YouTubes videos at the same time. Watching Netflix AND working on a document. This is magic.

Do Surface Pro's run the full version of Office 365? My kid's biggest complaint is her iPad Pro running Office 365 doesn't match the desktop version she uses at school. For this reason I'd buy a Surface Pro.

Somebody's been innovating! 😆

Interesting to see Microsoft and Google working together on a product like the Duo. Good for them. There seems to be a lot of cooperation and tech transfer between the two companies these days. Google frameworks like Angular use Microsoft's TypeScript. And Microsoft platforms like Azure support google tools like TensorFlow.
