Microsoft Edge Browser to Get Apple Account Sign-In Support

Microsoft is testing support for signing into its Edge browser using your Apple Account, avoiding the need to create a Microsoft account. Two new flags related to the support were spotted by MacMagazine in the latest Edge Canary build, with the feature also rolling out to Edge Beta users.

One of the flags enables Apple Account sign-in for Edge profiles, while the other adds an Apple sign-in button to the profile menu (where a Google Account sign-in option already exists). In its release notes for Edge Beta 152, Microsoft already lists Apple Account sign-in support for Windows and macOS, but describes it as a "controlled rollout," so there may be some delay before all beta users see it.

I'm stuck using Edge on a Windows box at work. Being able to sign into my apple account and have all the passwords associated with it would be great.

Don't know who uses Edge on a Mac, but every one of my 46,000+ co workers are stuck on it almost every day.

Edge, really? No one uses Edge except the people who still refer to it as Internet Explorer. These are the same people who will answer the question "What type of computer do you have? with "A gray one". 🤣

I struggle to think of a single reason to use Edge. I remember the disaster now referred to as Microsoft Edge Legacy.

However much everything is entirely new since then, that experience, plus years of Internet Explorer hell before, has made me an absolute refusenik for any Microsoft browsers. Especially outside its home environment of various Windows versions. (I'm sure it is installed on my rarely-used Windows instances, but I never intentionally or knowingly use it.)

I used to, specifically for accessing Microsoft sites and services. But they junked it up so bad it’s not worth it anymore.

People who use a Mac at work like myself. I don't see any reason I'd want to sign in with my Apple account, however.

IMO (40 years of using Macs) I don’t think the current version sucks, and in our cross platform support work I can see this sign in ability being useful. Start throwing things, it’s ok 😎.

Oh hell no. I develop on Windows in a VM on my Mac and the Edge browser there gets a fair bit of use since it integrates more tightly into Visual Studio then some of the other browsers. And it is garbage. Not to mention, grasping. Microsoft seems push out fresh versions of Edge that try constantly to create fresh profiles which default to fairly poor privacy settings. They want your data. They want their sites to be your default etc etc. Thankfully, for any proper browsing I can flip back to the Mac side of things.

I do. Love it. I was using Safari on Mac and Firefox everywhere else for years but Edge won me over with two things:

1. Vertical Tabs (good, smooth, beautiful vertical tabs... Firefox has gone through a few iterations of vertical tabs, and I've tried them a few times, but they keep being so much more clunky.)
2. Seems to work way better with Corporate SSO systems. I get prompted to do LDAP SSO way less often in Edge than in other browsers... I think I get prompted less than once a week in Edge vs other browsers prompt me multiple times a day. I think it's because I can log Edge itself into my corporate account vs other browsers don't have that kind of integration.

I'm sad that it's not FOSS, and I hope Firefox/Mozilla can survive without me.

Someday I hope Servo can be ready for use as a regular browser.

No need for a Microsoft account? I’m sure that signing in with your Apple ID will either connect it to an existing Microsoft account or create a new one. Where else would your synced stuff be stored?

I have to use a Windows PC for work. This will be nice if allows me to sync passwords and bookmarks. I currently use an extension for Edge that allows this. However, the bookmarks seem to have stopped synching.

I do. Its essentially Chrome but with less Google forced integrations. Its great.

I use Edge at work on my Mac. Vivaldi for private stuff. I’m on “edge” on iOS about using Safari or Vivaldi, but currently using Vivaldi. Safari is for me the best browser on iOS, closely followed by Vivaldi, the latter winning for cross platform sync and not harvesting my data in the process

I keep one Windows laptop in my home for devices that require Windows in order to update firmware. And I don’t even use Edge on that machine. Brave is my default browser on my Windows laptop. - until I eventually decide to install Linux on it in stead.

For work I use it, singed into our M365 tenant. So do 5K+ other employees, mostly on Windows but also on all Mac's. For personal use I use Chrome.

They have actually reversed this somewhat. Lots of junk has been removed.

At work if your company uses M365/OneDrive/Sharepoint, Defender, Azure etc, then Edge is hands down the very best choice. The same can be said for Chrome if your company uses Google Workspace for all of those things.

There are reasons that Chrome is the number one browser in use on Mac's.

Not by usage. By actual usage it's not even close. It doesn't matter how many computers come with a specific browser installed. From StatCounter - global stats:
