Not by usage. By actual usage it's not even close. It doesn't matter how many computers come with a specific browser installed. From StatCounter - global stats:

I never understood opera and why people use it. The 2-3 people Ive met in my life that use Opera swear by it almost in a cult like fashion but couldnt articulate to me why exactly do they like it.

I've been using Opera for years now. I like it because it's not Chrome, and I'm not a fan of Edge or FF. It has always worked well for me. I did use Safari when I owned Apple products. I'm hoping to own Apple products again one day, maybe after the CEO change if it all goes well.

They have actually reversed this somewhat. Lots of junk has been removed.

Not nearly enough.

My biggest issue with it is that they absolutely will not allow you to get rid of the new tab page. And that page is by default filled with absolute garbage.

That plus all the other intrusive stuff like shopping. It's just like the rest of Windows now. It can be made usable by going through a ton of settings and turning off most of the garbage that can be turned off. But they haven't met a bad idea they didn't like when it comes to just shoving in absolutely anything they think can make them some money.

This kind of jank is why Microsoft lost the browser-using public long ago. A completely avoidable self-own driven 100% by hubris. Reminds me somewhat of the idiots who pushed CurrentC for such a long time.

No need for a Microsoft account? I’m sure that signing in with your Apple ID will either connect it to an existing Microsoft account or create a new one. Where else would your synced stuff be stored?
I do have a Microsoft account from long ago when I ran Windows. If it comes to a point where signing into my Apple Account connects me to my Microsoft Account, I will delete my Microsoft Account.

I won't touch anything Microsoft related with a 100ft pole. Exactly why I switched away from it years back.

1000 foot pole? Try at least next building or unit over, it really is all about Apple and say a Linux home brew secure type scenario lol

Some Operating Sysetm/device/ecosystem like that but outside of Apple Walled-Garden sounds cool and would be trustworthy, a company that knows how to secure stuff like 20 times over from all the ad dudes, the data horders etc

It's a great browser... to download a different one with. I don't use it on any system, and I never will. It's just not for me. On Linux, I prefer FF and on my Apple stuff I use Safari.

?, why not Safari on Linux? If you don’t mind the question and it’s not too revealing of something else sort of thing…

I think that the reason behind why Chrome is in the lead is because of all of those school districts and businesses using Chrome. I mean, where wouldn't you find a ChromeOS in a business or school?

It’s the worst, harvesting all the data from an early age wherein most (im assuming) parents just don’t bother to have their children use a home bought MacBook or iPad setups smh

If that’s going down the data /face geometry/ voice geometry etc of the children then that’s just like, almost heart breaking..withh no one speaking out

imo Its all about consent…both parties….im walking down the street minding my own business and ppls front door street facing cameras try to catch me, they can’t catch this!!!

Srsly tho
I’m curious if it all goes anywhere…I have my ideas but we’ll just leave it at that

One thing I can say is you someone is walking along comes by close to someone and see someone making a (presumably? Social media post you do have a right I believe to say plz I don’t want to be on any social media, Goog Photos, or whathaveyou…now they may look at you like you have ten heads coming out of your shoulder but I feel the request should be respected and civilly, by this logic it extend to other non living entities, the cameras everywhere the constant surveillance for ads, data and whatever else… like giv me a break

The government you know you expect that - surveillance, it could prevent say a huge catastrophic event or find someone who committed such a cowardly thing alright cool fine, but the day to day grind for data money on ppl …that seems like could be bigger and more lucrative than at first though (there’s a looooot of ppl)

it’s just possibly all abt data for the $ and data for the AI….and then investing more into AI and surveillance deals…..imo best you can do is do your part and if someone says hey we’re taking signatures for this movement or your vote for that, sure I’ll type my name out…

Who uses this browser? Especially on Mac?
Safari still isn’t fully supported for some Microsoft enterprise sites such as Fabric and Edge is better than Chrome so I use it when I have to. Can’t think why I’d want to sign in with my Apple account though

microsoft edge is the advanced browser for sharepoint based sites (cms). that may be a reason.
Many of Sharepoint-based sites' users do already have Microsoft account to login with.

All these efforts to integrate Google and Apple account logins look like desperate attempts to get more users behind the Copilot. Microsoft was one of earlier investors into OpenAI and Copilot is a good choice as name for AI agent, but they are struggling badly as nobody wants to use it - even inside the Microsoft...
