On the contrary, I work in IT and currently completing a masters degree. And I affirm that OS X is ahead of Windows - in stability, reliability, and overall system performance. It's not just a marketing claim by Apple (although they like to push it a bit).
Windows may be a far more developed OS, but it has many drawbacks - registry, infinite amounts of .dlls, and a very bad Metro user interface (obviously, the last one is subjective).
Windows is good for enterprise and gaming - two markets where OS X should not and will never compete in (although gaming is slowly getting there to an extent). Those are the primary reasons that today its market share still remains above OS X. Also, a very important one: Windows runs on almost anything.
However, taking those two markets aside, I see no reason to use Windows unless you REALLY love it. OS X will offer you a much more elegant OS that integrates with the Apple ecosystem (if you own just one iDevice, you know what I mean).
I use Windows for gaming - that's it. All the rest I do in OS X - because it's reliable, 24x7x365. It also has excellent battery life management and sleeps in an instant on a retina Macbook Pro. Try doing that in Windows - won't even get half the battery life (I tried with Power Saver).
I have tons of VMs with many Linux distros for system administration and a couple of Windows versions as well for work. I never have to boot into Bootcamp unless it's for gaming, as virtualization software has become very good.
