Both are consumer entertainment devices. Thats what the link is. The iPad was the fastest selling, now i guess it isn't. The same way that a DVD player and iPad aren't the same. But yet the iPad had a faster adoption rate

Important difference.

iPad and DVD player are at a similar price level initially, but Kinect is at a different price level.

Might want to take some economics classes. Hint: you can sell more of the cheaper products.

The OP statement is like saying that the Wii blew the iPhone sales away a couple of years ago. We bought a Wii in all the excitement and two months later, it was up on Craigslist. Infatuation with a new product does not mean it trumps a solid seller like the iPad. Not to mention, Levis sold more jeans than Apple sold iPads...I guess that means Levis are cooler?

Um no. You might. The original DVD players were more expensive than the iPad. They also had ONE function whereas the iPad has several.

But all that is moot. Different devices = not a good comparison no matter if Apple "wins" the argument or not.

I've been to the Media Lab, and some of the things those teams are working on are pretty cool. You can bet they'll come up with far more fanciful things to be doing with Kinect before it's all over...

It feels a bit cruel to criticise research work that was produced quickly but I was rather unimpressed by their web browser demo. As a showcase of interaction mechanisms it appeared fine. The open-palm to select and close-palm to activate mechanism looked like it works a lot better than Microsoft's hover for several seconds idea.

However as a practical way of surfing the web it looks like it has a very long way to come. The method of selecting links looked painful and as far as I could tell panning/zooming was a separate mode to selecting links which again was separate from selecting tabs. Finally there is the physical issue of having to constantly keep your arm up in the air to use the browser.

Kinect style interaction obviously has a place in certain types of games but I'm yet to be convinced that it has serious uses in more general computer interaction. As well as the "gorilla arm" problem I just don't see how you could ever get the same level of detailed control as a touchscreen, never mind a mouse.

Just read the OP's other post. He's a troll. And this little nugget of wisdom is downright genius compared to the other steaming piles of pixels he posts.

Just a question why do people get so damn defensive.

Well said! Where are peoples sense of humor?

It's just an article I linked to for purposes of showing those who may not have seen it, what the mainstream press is thinking & comparing.

At no time did I compare them. I made no comments one way or the other. Quite simply, I posted a link to see what others thoughts were. Especially since the Kinect is something new, and we have an audience of gamers amongst us.

I find it quite interesting how people react to nothing more than an article.

It sorts out the people who are angry, sour, close minded and defensive, from those who are happy, relaxed, and enjoy reading another viewpoint.

Some like to enjoy a good discussion. Others pump up their ego spewing venom.*

Very revealing indeed... :)

Oh yeah cos I was in the store the other day shopping for an iPad and thought screw it I can do everything using kinect so I bought that instead...

The sleeping giant awakens to stomp on the competition.

Like comparing apples to rocks.

Exactly.

Some people are desperate for any good news for Microsoft.

No. You stated that Microsoft had awakened and was ready to stomp on the competition (the iPad). You didn't simply post an article, you attempted to illicit a negative response.

As a troll, the angry, sour, closed minded and defensive posts are exactly what you wanted. I really wish people could just ignore trolls like you, but unfortunately that will never happen, as you know all too well.

************. Anyone can read your other posts here. You're a troll. Don't try to act like an intelectual. You may have a few big words and thesaurus you're still a troll.

(And shhh... Your grammar's showing.)

You should have been more forthcoming. Instead you give us a one liner, a link and titled it in a way to illicit a response from the MacRumors community. What you should have done was give your opinion or ask for others opinion on the article, but instead you end the post with "Just a Link".

Your post can be compared to a kid lighting an M80, flushing it down the toilet and waiting to see what happens.

I didn't know the iPad and the XBOX were competing against each other. Isn't this sort of like comparing…
