Remember just last month when we had this story.

It's funny that no one seemed to complain that the iPad was being classed as a consumer electronics product and having it's initial sales figures compared with the humble DVD player.

The Kinect is classed in the same consumer electronics product category.

Agreed. Sorry to see that your post is probably the only one true unbiased one here...

There was a study that says the more dogs reproduce in the United States, the more marriages there are in Russia. But it didn't say anything about how that affects iPad sales, maybe I should e-mail them.

Whoa! Back off - my post is both true and unbiased, I can day from personal experience I have bought more bread and milk than iPads this week. In fact every week.

I actually LOL'ed! POTD!

Seriously, wirelessmacuser, "The sleeping giant awakens to stomp on the competition"? That is the most inane thing I've heard. Comparing Kinect to an iPad.

Because everyone on Mac Rumors is sick of the constant stupid troll threads.

To compare the Kinect with the iPad just shows plain stupidity. Neither are even close in functionality.

The reverse is done when it's in iPads favor. If you're going to get "sick" of these types of threads - get sick of all of them..

Where are the threads claiming that the iPad is selling more than a webcam or other accessory and thus the fruity sleeping giant is awakening?

Brilliant link-bait thread, no? When's the last time you surfed over to ReadWriteWeb.com on your own?! :D

This thread has already had over 1,000 views. Wonder how many clicked on the link in the OP?

there have been articles about adoption rates being higher than DVD players - just one example.

Even going down the "fastest selling electronics device" path, you realize that the Kinect is an ACCESORY, right? It's not a device. It's an add-on. An add-on to an existing product with deep market penetration.

Totally bogus comparison.

I hear that headphones totally outsell iPods....

The problem is wirelessmacuser

there have been articles about adoption rates being higher than DVD players - just one example.

Alright, but for the iPad, this was an interesting stat because no one truly knew how it would sell. A consumer level tablet released at such a large scale had never been attempted before. Those articles simply put the sales of the iPad into perspective. I don't think there was any doubt in anyone's mind that the Kinect would sell well, it's only $150, almost everyone owns an Xbox 360, it's release was just weeks before the holidays, and it was hyped for literally years as Project Natal. Besides, do you think anyone here actually cares if the iPad remains the fastest selling device of all time? It's meaningless, and doesn't change how I use mine a bit.

The real issue here is with wirelessmacuser, who is such an obvious troll it's ridiculous. To say that the Kinect is Microsoft's way of "stomping the competition" (including the iPad) is beyond stupid. Absolutely no one stated that Apple was crushing the DVD player market with its sales of the iPad.

Unfortunately, this is exactly the argument wirelessmacuser wants.

Played with a Kinect in Best Buy over the weekend. Got bored 5 minutes later. I then went and bought a wireless printer for my iPad.

On the first point - sadly - I DO think that people care (too much) on here regarding that matter.

As to your second point - while I do agree his initial post was baitworthy - he didn't write the actual article he linked to. So yes - he got his desired result.

"The MIT Media Lab hacks the Kinect to browse the web with it."

One of these things is not like the other.

I've been to the Media Lab, and some of the things those teams are working on are pretty cool. You can bet they'll come up with far more fanciful things to be doing with Kinect before it's all over...

OP, dude, you can't compare a Kinect with an iPad...

They are two totally different pieces of technology, each with its own purpose.

this thread is worthless

I wonder if the OP's tongue was firmly in cheek with that post. S/He does have nearly 2000 posts on here, so not your average troll...

I hear that headphones totally outsell iPods....

Do they really? Many people use them with in-ear speakers, which are not headphones. I wouldn't be surprised either way, but I wouldn't want to bet on this.
