It's not that I'm not willing to share, the fact that it is mobile means it moves with us. Meaning I could be at my grandparents with the GameBoy, and consequently, my brother and sister wouldn't be able to use it because they were, for example, sleeping over at a friends house... We might have been spoiled, but we each got one mobile gaming device of our choosing.

I guess it just seems weird to me.

I share my 3DS with my brother-in-law and my sister all the time. Then again, they can't afford one. ;)

I really couldn't either, but I manage money poorly and NEEDED IT!!

The multi user account would be great (if the kids didn't have their own iPad), however it's a very low trick to show the suggestion of a kid downloading Infinity Blade without any restrictions.

It happened with my oldest son. It was in-app purchases that did it.
We were hit for $375.
It's really easy to buy upgrades, levels, coins, etc.

These features are neat - and they should highlight them - but the direct comparison to the iPad is just dumb. Why can't they just highlight the cool features without mentioning anything about the iPad.

If you cut these two adds down to remove anything about an iPad they could show off both of these features within 60 seconds and not remind anyone of their competition....

I agree with you, but I understand they do it to make some people aware that iPad is not The ONE Perfect Tablet. Break the myth, so to speak.

How old? I wouldn't personally give my iTunes account password to someone until they can get their own debit card, and then they should be trustable.

Very informative commercial highlighting features and benefits.

Maybe if I knew that the next great app would come out on Windows RT... I would recommend a Surface to friends and family.

Until then... the iPad is still the strongest platform all around.

And kickstand again? Doesn't Microsoft know that iPad cases with built-in stands have been around for 3 years? Gotta protect the screen too. Cases are very popular.

How is the accessory market for Surface anyway?

They know, and they do show the Smart Cover in the AD. But you have to agree that the kick stand is more sleek and stable than any add on you could buy.
Surface has many great first party accesories. 3 different style keyboads/screen covers, for example. The only bad thing is their Appleish price, hehe. :)

He was 8 at the time. He's my son, I trust him.
I was mad, but I understand sometimes when you're playing a game it is all too easy to just hit that buy this or that button.

Now he has his own iPhone and I gave him my old iPad 2, and he gets itunes gift cards to buy whatever he wants.

But if we had multiple log ins etc, it wouldn't have been an issue.
I created an account for him after the fiasco but man was it a pain to have to sign out of your Apple Id and he signs into his, then I have to sign into mine when i get it back.

Multi-account definitely is a big deal that Apple should really consider. I think they'd rather sell an iPad to every family member unfortunately.

Apple will implement it on all iOS devices as soon as the iPad gets Touch ID. It's one of those areas in which we may have to wait a bit longer than users of certain competing platforms, but the solution will be quite elegant once it arrives.

MS ads usually tend to be pretty weak, but I'd kill for multiple users on iPad. I can understand why it isn't much of a priority on phones.
.

Well, Windows Phone has the "Kid's corner" that is some sort of guest account. A guest (child, friend) cannot mess with you facebook, messages, etc while enjoying games (or any app you choose to add to this account).
It is very easy to set up and use.

It is a pity Windows Phone is always ignored. It has many great ideas.

LOL. You are complaining about having to login/logout each time... Wouldn't you have to do this if it was multiple accounts? Unless you know, the device can recognize you (fingerprint!) and logs you into your account automatically!!!

I have become tired of using a Windows. Using it during workouts, watching movies, interruptions occur almost every-time now via some new security update or something needing to be installed. So if stopping what your doing every few minutes to select presented options is hands free then Windows is wonderfully hands free.

Its funny how they made the iPad screen look really yellow on the second video:D

It's what happens when you don't set your white balance correctly on your camera while shooting an ipad screen or any screen at that. I'm sure this was done on purpose because there's no way Microsoft hired an amateur director, cinematographer, or Director of Photography who didn't know to do this before hand. Sneaky Sneaky.

And yes, I have shot many iPhone/iPad/Android commercials in my career to know this.

Yeah...that doesn't happen.

Big security patches like that only come every second Tuesday of the month, and then it doesn't prompt you for it unless you specifically tell it to do so. Otherwise, it'll either download them all automatically behind the scenes, or give you an unintrusive ! on the taskbar telling you they're ready to be downloaded. Nothing ever pops up telling you "Hey, get this this this and this".

The second ad, the one about multiple user accounts and usage monitoring makes a very big point. The reason why Apple has not implementes this is, I guess, to sell more iPads, since it should be fairly simple to implement. That alone would make me seriously consider a Surface, specially with kids in the house.

Hopefully the competition will keep making better, more open products. That will benefit everyone.

From what I have read about the 2nd gen surface it looks appealing. If I didn't already have an ipad mini I would be looking at the surface.

No the pain part is when you're about to buy something and the little pop up ask for your password and you can't change the user there.

You have to go into settings and go to itunes/store tab. Log out then log yourself in. Then go back to the App store and then do your purchase.

Instead of having my account linked to me and when I log in to my iPad and just do my purchase. And if my son is using my iPad he logs in and he has his own info etc.

Now which one is a pain and which one isn't?

How long have you been using a Surface, or could you tell it "sucked" just by walking past the display?

I think it's pretty obvious that the Surface "sucks" just by walking by it. Pretty much how I can tell that Whoopi Goldberg would be an awful girlfriend just by walking by her.

TouchID is great and I love it on my 5S. But multiple users will still need to set up a passcode to use TouchID.

So why couldn't they already allow separate accounts that you log in with a passcode? iPads and iPhones have been around for a while now.

If one person can log in with a passcode... I don't see why two or more couldn't.

I agree that it will be elegant to switch users by simply touching the home button... but they could have implemented multiple account years ago.

Hopefully that will be the killer feature in iOS 8 :)

My honest opinion? The Surface has some great ideas, but the app selection just isn't there yet. If all you want to do is surf the internet, watch Netflix, and the like, you could definitely do worse. But right now, I'd say the Mini is the overall best selection.

Now the Surface Pro 2...since the recent firmware update, it can now get about 8.5-9 hours of battery life while performing common tasks, which was one of the things I've been really waiting for. If you're not looking for a tablet specifically, but rather a nice portable computer with tablet perks, it'd be worth considering.

I'm on the cusp myself. I think I'm gonna get one more generation of iPads, then see where both of them lie once the Surface 3 arrives.

If you say so.

Does Samsung know this? :D:D

I love the idea of the Surface Pro 2... a laptop and tablet in one.

But where it all falls apart for me is the tiny 10.6" screen.

The screen is fine on the tablet side... but on the laptop side it's pretty small.

13.3" is about as small as I could go on something that is supposed to be my daily computer. I guess my ideal combo would be a traditional laptop/ultrabook and a mini tablet.

I know they are two separate devices... but they are both best suited for what they are supposed to be. :)

Apples and Oranges…. Literally

This is what's funny about this commercial. MS Surfaces are just merely equivalent to macbook airs. Sure MS Surface has a removable keyboard. But honestly. Why compare Apples to Oranges? No pun intended. iPads are merely a watered down entertainment system. Email, Browse, presentation, watch a movie or two. I wouldn't design web sites with it, or professional photography editing or video editing. No, that's when Macbook Pro's come in or to certain level a macbook air can handle. NOT all of us are writers, digital graphic designers, movie editors. We simply use iPads to get through our everyday mundane communication situation. We may use iPad to journal or write a book or two, but we'd email it to our macbook pro lap top to do the finishing touches. Here, if you want to compare something, there is a company who can convert your MacBook Pro to be a tablet like shape equipped with touch screen technology, check it out: http://store.modbook.com. NOW, MS Surface, Compare them apples!!! I'm sure apple will come out with a laptop (heaven forbid, a tablet) with a removable blue toothed keyboard just like the surface, probably called MacTablet Pro. See how MS Surface is going to compare that with their product.
