I DONT CARE! Seriously, this is a Apple-centered rumors site. Why do they need to advertise Microsoft's Surface ?

Cause the outrage will result in a flood of posts and stupid comments resulting in huge amount of page hits.

Page hits = ads revenue

These are the click bait articles ..... ;)

I've got to admit, the Surface Pro is one of the most intriguing devices I've seen in a while. I'll be curious to see the concept develop.

Great to see Microsoft as the little guy desperately trying to outdo the market leader. Who'd have thought the mighty could fall so far so fast?

Weren't Mac sales up over 20% last quarter? Is this ad campaign working at all?

Correct. Quality is irrelevant in modern journalism. Ad impressions are God.

This is why I think/hope that Apple's upcoming 12" MacBook Air /slash/ iPad Pro is really a competitor to this device—touch, stylus, and removable or foldable keyboard.

Yeah and that ad has NOTHING to do with Apple.

It's only apple related if Apple is the one picking on another product ;)

Otherwise it's outrages lies!!!!! And should not be posted in MR.

I think the comparison is kind of dumb, but I do hope that it moves Apple toward an optimized OSX tablet in the near future. Do your magic Apple! :D

Why in the world would anyone think OSX on a tablet would be a good idea?

Notice how they compare their tablet to a notebook and don't dare compare it to iPad Air 2?

I thought the same thing, they should be comparing it to a tablet. That way they can portray a the difference of a full OS on a tablet. But I think what they are going for is that their tablet can be on par with a notebook. I think it is very ineffective comparing it to a mac though. Mac users prefer it for the OS, and probably wont get many people switching. A surface pro 3 vs any other PC, would be more effective, convincing users looking for a new windows computer to consider the pro 3 as their next computing solution.

I know the OS is the key differentiator here, but it's hard to ignore the versatility of the Surface.

Prior superiority won't be enough to keep Apple on top forever. We need some new ideas.

How about a keyboard and touchpad that work well? Is that a good enough idea to pick the Air as your daily driver laptop over the Surface?

The surface is in a category of it's own, as it's neither a laptop or a tablet.

Microsoft of all people should know that these are different products aimed at different markets, but hey, at least Apple gets some free airtime!

I thought calling out competitors was never a good marketing strategy. I for one thought the mac vs pc ads were always garbage, glad they're rid of those. Any time I see a company comparing itself to another company I can only think of how the company comparing themselves against the current leader feels jealous of their success. Then when I think of why they're successful I feel it must be because that product truly is better. These types of ads only make me feel like the macbook air is a more solid and better product, not the other way around.
Comparisons can work if it is part of a whole scrappy startup thing. Unfortunately for Microsoft, that's a bit of a stretch. Not sure this strategy has ever worked for a failed has been. Case in point- BB.

Is that a kickstand?
MacBooks don't need one.

Is that a flimsy MS keyboard?
Yes it is one.

Is that the ugliest piece of embarrassing hardware to carry around?
Yup yup yup... yup!

Don't forget ... "It runs clunky old PC software" as Steve would say.

While a 2 in 1 may be the future, I think a better solution is a device with 2 different OSes. Detach the screen and it becomes and iPad. Attach the screen and it becomes a Mac with a real keyboard, trackpad, etc. It'd be like handoff on steroids.

This is exactly how I use my Surface Pro 3. Without the keyboard I use all the Metro Apps (IE, OneNote with stylus, reading comics or pdfs, etc)

When I attach the keyboard I usually go to desktop mode.

Sure I wish there were more Metro apps but I'm currently using the Surface just like your description.

Nothing is perfect in this world - but the SP3 is the most magical device I've seen from Microsoft.

I too am glad that Apple commercials are now 100% about Apple products and not the competition. Why give your competition free advertising (which is what Microsoft is doing here)? I look at that ad and think my god that SP is ugly compared to the Mac.

They're touting the kickstand as a feature?

No - it's a solution to a problem they made themselves by making it top-heavy.

Okay so I actually like this ad :D.

I thought the other Surface v. MacBook Air ads were dumb, but this one is cute, fun, and makes a point. The others just made MSFT look spiteful.

They have to compare it to a Mac. There are very few home users buying PCs at the price point of the Surface 3 aside from Gamers. Gamers obviously won't buy a Surface. Budget conscious folks aren't buying $1,000 PCs, so you can't compete with a Dell or an HP. Besides those are great customers of you since you capture most of the profit from those sales through your Windows license.

Business users who plan to sit down and do 8 hours of work 5 days a week on the device will not stand for the small screen, the small keyboard, and the poor touchpad. So you aren't getting too many sales there. Maybe to road warriors as their travel machine. But that is about it.

The Surface has to take market share from Mac or it won't sell.

Yep. AND .... i ALSO don't care about a retina display. I love my 2011 hires macbook pro 15" with 16GB Ram and 1 TB SSD ... Srsly those "old" books are too good to be replaced with a EUR 3000 retina book that is only maybe 10% faster, while the "plus" factor from a retina display is evened out because it is glossy ...

Same config here. Kicks ass and feeling no need to upgrade. Made a direct comparison with a Late 2013 Retina 15" with 16GB and a 500GB SSD and the '11 ain't far off of it.

I think that once the iPad Pro/Maxi comes out, Apple could easily kill this comparison. Of course the big if here is IF Apple will finally allow for multiple apps to run at the same time. IF apple will provide its own keboard cover.

A new iPad and solution to the IFs and Microsoft has nothing to say, except that it has a USB - woot.
