The scrolling is really bad on this. I don't know why they don't use inertia scrolling as per most of Pages, internet browsing etc.

I'm getting conflicting info on that. The MS website says 365 subscription will entitle users to the newest software. If you find clearer info, please let us know.

I will find out soon enough, I guess. I don't have a 365 subscription, nor do I have any previous versions of Office for Mac installed. I've only ever used Microsoft Office on a Windows PC. I currently have Office 2013 installed on my Windows PC, but I opted to buy the Professional edition for $400

Updates are included, and with the Home Premium version, you get 10TB of storage on OneDrive. You can buy the subscription for about $65.00 a year if you shop around.

Thank you. Quick question: is the included storage only for Microsoft documents, or can I store any documents?

Wtf? Microsoft is actually modernizing Office for the newest OS X? Is this real life?

I'm getting conflicting info on that. The MS website says 365 subscription will entitle users to the newest software, so that implies a subscription will be required. If you find clearer info, please let us know.

We will update the preview regularly, and you will receive the update via a notification from our Office for Mac Auto-Update tool.

from the site.. seems like we receive updates via the update program that gave us updates for 2011

does the new onenote for mac have any extra features over the app store version?

I can't believe I'm actually rooting for Microsoft to beat Apple at their own game. Pages and Numbers are lame for anything but the most basic document or spreadsheet, and Apple's quality really sucks these days.

Powerpoint needs to die in favor of Keynote, though. Can't we get something better than either of these options?

the more I'm using it, the more I think I'm liking it actually. (Word & Excel so far)

Will someone please check to see if the new Word will do *right-to-left* paragraphing? This obvious feature (present in the Windows version for over a decade) has never been available in MacWord, Gates alone knows why. If it is...I'll bite the bullet re the "updated interface" and switch when the standalone version comes out. If not...I'll stick with Office 2008. :(

Well, according to the FAQ page, Arabic and Hebrew are not supported, which means that tight to left languages are not supported, exactly like the previous version.

As you mentioned, these languages are supported in the windows version, and there is no reason what so ever for it not to appear in the new version.

And it sucks.
Hopefully it will support it in the next builds.....

I'm surprised how many MR readers are actually excited about this. I have to use the Windows version of Office on a daily basis and I can't stand it. I find it extremely difficult to use - it was much easier to understand and interact with several versions back.

I guess I'm in the minority but I prefer the simplicity of iWork.

2016—Why is it named almost a full year ahead of its time? Does Microsoft do this so that the product will "seem new" for a longer time? So it'll have less pressure to issue an update until further in the future?

Gaming companies do this also. For example, EA Sports gives their sports games <Game Name> <Next Year>. For example, the NHL released this year is called NHL 2016, or FIFA 2016, NFL 2016, etc. Other companies besides EA and Microsoft also do it. Car companies are releasing 2016 cars in 2015. It's not Microsoft trying to scam you trying to make a product seem newer longer, or if it is, it's a practice in many industries, not just technology industries.

Giving it a try but it's ugly, just like Office 2013 on the PC. The CAPS for the headings is annoying and ugly. The rest looks like a warmed over Office 2011.

Will be OK for those that need office - I'll probably stick with iWork as I have for the past 2 years.

So does it looks like 2013?
