Well, this app has been out for a while. Microsoft just bought the company and put their name on it. I don't believe they made any changes after they rebranded it.

Regardless of what you want to believe, as it currently stands the App Store has this as "MICROSOFT OUTLOOK" and it states that it is version "1.0.0" and as such, as a version 1 app, it is - as I stated - working quite well for me so far.

I could care less if it it was developed by another company that was bought out by Microsoft. The fact remains that it is now owned by Microsoft and if they choose to re-sell the product as Outlook that is their right to do so. Since I never heard of the other company or App that people are claiming this app to be in a former life, this app is for all practical purposes Microsoft Outlook.

I hate the focused and other tabs. I want all in just one and can't seem to get it?

EDIT: Never mind, found it right in settings.

I know right? Microsoft is the only company to acquire a smaller company and integrate into their portfolio of products. Seriously, what are you actually complaining about? This happens all the time.

Whether or not they made changes to the app is a matter of speculation. Unless you know something we don't.

So if someone bought the Facebook app and rebranded it, it would be version 1.0.0?, a version 1 app, as you state? Of course it would work well as its had dozens of refinements.

I love the app, btw.

Calm down, I'm not complaining. See: 'Observation'

I have the app and it's the best email client I've used so far.

I wonder if this will suck as bad as Outlook on every other platform (including Windows)?

Outlook doesn't suck. Most businesses love Outlook. Consumers with light requirements hate it mostly because of its complex nature.
Anyone with power user requirements loves Outlook...

There are so many email apps out there. I just wish Apple would let me change the email app default in iOS. Until then, it makes it more difficult to use any email app due to lack of integration. its not like apple loses money if they give us the option. Actually could make money if they sell the rights to become the default app like they do with the search engine in safari.

Tell Apple, not us.

I sure wish there was a down-vote on this forum. I consider myself a power user, and I get by just great with Apple's apps for Mail, Calendar, and Contacts. I've only seen and felt pain in an Outlook-centric setup.

No support for just adding an account via IMAP?!? Are you kidding me?

Nope! The blog post says they'll be "iterating quickly to bring new features to Outlook, shipping new versions of the app every few weeks."

One thing I think I've noticed is that the app gets push email with Gmail. Anyone else see that?

You're missing the point. Microsoft is taking credit for the hard work and creativity of another company. They failed to create an equal solution in-house so they sought to BUY a pre-made solution.

And since they have failed to create simple, elegant solutions in-house, how will this new Outlook evolve over time? I bet they will mess it up and make it more complicated and less user-friendly as each new version comes out.

So far, this is performing REALLY well for a v1 app. Even if it is Accompli, it's working nicely with my jobs o365 Exchange instance. One key thing missing is free\busy look-up when scheduling a meeting. Either it's not there yet or I can't find how to do it. Their OWA for iPhone app does it but that's due to it being a wrapper for OWA 2013. This option is a HUGE requirement in the enterprise and the #1 request I get from my users. Here's hoping it's coming soon.

You guys tried "Exchange Scheduler" (by Slalom LLC) for that?

No support for Exchange Server 2003.

Heck man there's no support for iOS 2013!

MS dropped support for ES2003 on April 8, 2014.

Come on man. It's 2015... we were supposed to stop hating MS a long time ago. Now it's Samsung and Google's turn.

On the app: very good so far, very happy with it.

I love Outlook, it only sucks in the Mac/iOS environments. I think Microsoft is working hard to get that fixed, at least this new iOS app is promising as is the new version of Outlook on the Mac, with the exception that the Mac version cannot sync to anything yet as far as calendars go.

Push for gmail

I am trying it now and I like it. It even seems to have push for gmail (which the standard mail does not do), but I have to confirm this.

Not searchable in Japan store, but direct linked worked. Nice.

Like the flexibility and cross-platform approach from the new MS-CEO.

I tried the Outlook for iOS App with my Exchange Office 365 account and I am not impressed. There are still things missing that should be expected from Microsoft.
  • Cannot set OOF
  • No support for Exchange categories
  • cannot access public folders
  • cannot set the amount of data to store offline
  • cannot access contacts folder on Exchange mailbox
  • Cannot move an appointment to a different calendar
  • no support for Exchange tasks
  • no month view in calendar
  • no week view in calendar

The app has potential but cannot replace the standard mail.app for me. At least not yet.

The only thing I really like is the integration with DropBox, OneDrive and the ability to access attachments from other mails.

On the iPad, there is a week view for the calendar - I don't see it on the iPhone 6 though. On both the iPhone and the iPad (in the Day view), if you click on the month name in the title bar it will slide down the daily details to show a calendar for the month and will show a dot on the days that have appointments. Not ideal or intuitive (I found it by accident), but it is there....

I didn't miss any point. All the big software companies gobble up the little guys for their benefit. Microsoft, Apple, Google etc. I am sure there are other apps out there that got their start as something else. The fact is that Microsoft is FINALLY realizing that they neglected other platforms long enough and they are trying to correct it. As for this particular App it may have had a life under another name, but it is now rebranded and sold as Outlook, which for Outlook is version 1.0. I am sure that Microsoft will use the talent that created the app to improve it in the future.

Just for you guys that didn't realize it, but Microsoft Office was first written for the Mac, and THEN ported over to Windows. It was only after the huge success of Excel, Word and PowerPoint on the Mac did Microsoft move it to Windows.

A few ommissions/changes by MS

I started using Acompli about a month ago to get push on gmail (didnt want to use the app) and it quickly replaced my default mail.app. Just a few things with this new version that seem different for me.

- Archive/Delete. with acompli half swipe archives while full swipe deletes. With outlook i can only archive. Even though the screenshots in this article show the full swipe delete. I've gone into settings for swipe but don't see an option for full swipe gesture. Hoping this is an oversight. everyone having this issue?

- Font: The font on acompli was way cleaner and nicer looking when using the app, and readable even in the multitasking screen when the app window was smaller. Not only is this new Outlook font not as clean within the app, but its tougher to read in the multitasking window (useful sometimes when switching between memopad and mail to write down something). overall the older font was just better in my opinion.

I have submitted several dozen suggestions to Apple over the years. They have not responded to a single one so far (not they would). The most recent include -

1. Allow changing the default Mail App (make some money)
2. Allow changing the default Browser App (make some money)
3. Allow changing the default Map App (make some money)
4. Add true multi tasking (multi windows) on iOS
5. OSX on Arm
6. Keyboard covers
7. App to manage iCloud drive
8. More RAM memory (on the iPad this was finally done)
9. More storage (the 128gig option is welcomed)
10. Keep a form factor for one-handers
11. Add the phone app to all devices (through the handoff they sort of have)
