I use a rMBP and a SP3 and i love both.

The SP3 sure has some issues (crappy camera, the i5 is not fanless, Windows 8.1 is better than Windows 8 but sometimes to complicated) but i like the SP3. It has the power of a real notebook in an small package.

You should still leave the decision what to use by the customer.

Doesn't MS understand that 95% of Mac users have already used Windows, hated it, and switched to Mac?

Lol

Ahahaha hahaha hahaha hhahahaa. Hah. Hahaha. As a Windows expert for 25 years, and a Mac user for 5. Ahahahahha. Heeeheheheheee. Hm. Maybe Microsoft will be successful in convincing people to switch this time around, not like all the other times? Ahahahaha. I think I'll be enjoying this one for weeks to come. Ahahaha.

I came here for the defensive comments, and I did not leave disappointed.

I came to load up on ammo for the next Microsoft vs. Apple thread that should be opened in the next 3 minutes.

So far, I've got "M$" and "Windoze" added to my witty list of references for Microsoft and their fine products. Also, it seems if you put words in CAPS, it's typically derogatory and meant to show your competition who's boss!

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Competition is good!!! I always thought I'd be a lifetime Apple fanboy but never say never. Just waiting for Apple to do something dumb like "cloud only storage" (no more hard disks allowed with Macs), or no more downloading/owning of purchased movies/music (everything is "streaming only"). The minute either of these happen...hello MS!!!

I love my Surface Pro 3.

I knew I was getting this over any MBP or Air. I have not regretted that decision.

To all the apple fan boys who probably hate on this, it's hard to deny MS did a good job on this product. They took a tablet and made it into a decent productivity tool (unfortunately it only took 3 times and let's not even talk about windows RT). Ipads are so limited, i would never use one over my MBA.

Good job MS, keep apple on there toes. They have enjoyed to much freedom at the top

But who gives a damn which is better. Use whatever the hell you want. This Mac PC rubbish really does get very boring and childish

It should say something to the consumer that Microsoft HAS TO try so hard to 'lure' consumers. The MacBook is so iconic, people want to use it without having to know all the specs.

And one good reason to get a MacBook over a Surface is that it DOESN'T have a kickstand

Firstly, are you seriously worried about the camera quality of a full blown laptop/ tablet device? And secondly the i5 is an older gen one which is why it is not fanless, it is also too powerful for the machine when pushed and the i5 and i7 models throttle when they are pushed hard.

Form over function like what Apple can do.
But I will imagine the Pro 4 will have a newer gen of CPU so the thin design will be able to handle the power as they will be much more efficient.

IMO Microsoft saw a niche in the market and have filled it nicely, other manufacturers have followed apart from Apple. I have looked at them before myself, but concluded I like an Android tablet and then a powerful Mac laptop or desktop. But they made me look.

I have an asus t100ta which is a much less expensive 2-1 tablet, and I like it a lot. I don't use it nearly as much as my powerbook on the go but lounging around the house playing traditional pc games and doing tablet stuff i prefer it.
The only thing holding it back is windows ive had to do a reinstall of windows twice because of stupid glitches, but the hardware is a pleasure to use.

I much prefer apple for my music creation however. But basic media consumption it's nice to be able to use it as a netbook and a tablet.

One of the interesting things about the site

Is how much alike Windows and OS X are.

I understand their daddies knew each other well.

Microsoft, if you can get OS X installed perfectly on this Surface Pro 3 then we'll talk.

Better to go the other way. Skip the Surface and run windows on your Mac.

I just installed WIN7 on my 2008 Mac pro and the WIN 10 preview on my macbook pro using bootcamp. Im amazed that I never did it before because it runs 10 x better than my actual PC.

I was going to buy a new PC next year and I still am. It will be a mac dual booted to run Windows.

Funny that the best PC to run windows on is a Mac. If Apple came out with an iMac with a touch screen, or a Macbook Touch, they could put other PC makers out of business by selling them to run windows.

that thing looks like a damn ipad 1 with a USB port! I really dont understand the appeal of the surface. A macbook air isn't the greatest laptop but I still would pick that over the iPad 1 with a usb port.

I guess I should say "would have us believe", whether they believe it themselves. They've had the same issues with it for a couple years now, so either they believe it or they haven't figured out how to engineer a way out of it yet.

I am. People that I know use Cintiq are using it in nearly horizontal position close to them, such that they can hover over it similar to a book/magazine. They're not using it propped up at a near-right angle, as the Surface is with the kickstand & keyboard.

I think Microsoft has steadily improved the line since its debut. It's definitely more focused than the fragmented crap they started out with. I do agree that it has a lot of room to improve but as a pretty dedicated Apple user, I have to say that I really like the Surface 3 and am looking to see where the future takes it. And, dare I say it, I kind of like Windows 8. I'm really looking forward to how Apple approaches this space too.

I do think that one of their failings with advertising the kickstand is its comparison to a laptop. I don't know of anyone who would think of that as a good 1-1 trade off. But where the kickstand lacks there, it benefits elsewhere. You're right in that Cintiq users often have it positioned more horizontally, but the kickstand had a wide range of motion so that it can serve that same purpose. It's more vertical position is definitely useful when compared to a standard tablet, which either doesn't have one or needs a case to do something close. But then again, the build and range of the kickstand is pretty nice, unlike what I even thought looked pretty cheap at first glance.

I hate the Microsoft ads for the Surface Pro 3. They are pretty terrible.

But the product itself is surprisingly good. I do a lot of coding and photography (in that order), and the machine serves me better than my old rMBP. Also less of a burden on my back...

As for a tablet replacement - not so much because the Windows app store is still pretty terrible. But, I do have Android on it via Ami DuOS which works really well.

Looking forward to the SP4. And unlike the previous versions of the Surface, I actually see Pro 3s in the wild...

THIS. And here's my additional $0.02...

I recently compared the $1300 SP3 to the $1300 rMBP and for my tastes, the SP3 wiped the floor with the rMBP. I really missed iMessage and the windows store sucked, but that was the bulk of my complaints. Oh and the SP3 has mediocre battery life whereas the rMBP excels at longevity....it also took a bit to learn the less than intuitive touch gestures on the SP3 but it wasn't bad after the first day. All-in-all the touch screen and pen input were so incredibly nice for fun and productivity. I enjoyed running solidworks without bootcamp/parallels, and the new Adobe CC updates for the surface users are great. Most notably in my case, when I used the SP3 I found myself creating content as I intended, but when I was on the rMBP I was merely consuming it.

Finally I'll just mention that I wasnt a fan of windows 8 until I tried the surface. It's (not surprisingly) exactly what windows 8 was meant for. I am eagerly awaiting for the SP4 as well as new MacBooks this summer to make my final decision, but so far I'm heavily leaning towards the SP4.

... with Microsoft recommending Skype over the Apple options.

Ah this one made my day! They recommend Skype! Microsoft, you killed Skype! Don't tell people to use it, because they did actually use it before you bought it and ruined it completely beyond recognition. Yes Facetime sucks but at least it works every once in a while!
