Microsoft Messenger for Mac 6.0 Released!

i really wish ichat simply could function in such a way where it included all the messengers and their functions. I simply want AIM and Yahoo together and want to be able to use the chat rooms once in a while, i hate having so many apps on my mac, it gives me that windows feeling
Well iChat supports Jabber, so you could connect to MSN and Yahoo through it for basic messaging. You won't get any advanced features like file transfer and stuff though.thugpoet22 said:

Well Photoshop is involved, but I can guarantee it's not a cruel joke.
First, you have to quit MSN. Then go into your application folder and right click the Microsoft Messenger application and "Show Package Contents". In the Resources folder you should be able to find three files: <ContactListMSNLogo.png>, <IMMSNLogo.png>, and <MSNLogo.png>. From there you can toss them into Photoshop, erase the MS logos, and save with the same filename. I got fancy and put an Apple logo in place of the "ContactList" logo, but I just left the other two logo files transparent. You can place just about anything in there as long as you fit it within the box.
Make sure you back up the old MSN logos in a folder somewhere in the resource folder just in case and enjoy!

Thanks for that! That was the only thing that annoyed me about Microsoft Messenger 6.0, absolutely no complaints otherwise. Absolutely love it.
I can't change my display picture, is anyone else having this problem? I try to import a picture (any JPEG pic) but a window pops up telling me the format incompatible. I can't even choose one of the default ones because the OK button will not respond. I have to click on cancel...

to me, the only thing that changed was the version number. the other features are useless. it pisses me off when microsoft screws with apple and customers like that.

One of the examples, is when MS threatened to not update their Office apps if Apple dosen't let him have access to Mac OS and it's UI. during that time, the main software developers for the mac was Microsoft. After that incident, Windows 1.0 came out. Apple Sued, but the court brought microsoft's arguement that windows was an application rather than an OS, and they had a valid licence from Apple to use their gui.
another example is when apple was working on MacBasic, an alternative to Basic. it's supposed to be a good alternative. Microsoft, realizing that apple would become more independant from Microsoft, threatened apple that they will refuse to renew apple's licence for Basic, and will not work with apple anymore. Apple caved and sold Macbasic for 1$, a burial fee.

Well I guess We will just have to put up with messenger untill more people start using Mac's.
Im the only one in my group of friends that has a mac and if I want to chat online I have to use messenger. A shame really because I havent even touched ichat yet!

I have Microsoft Messenger for compatibility but I use Mercury Messenger when I really need a good client since it supports much, much more.

It looks 99 % the same as version 5.1.1 but it works. Still, I'm happy using Mercury Messenger.
i was actually referring to the changes i had made (seen in the attached picture of my original post) to msn 6.
This is excellent. I can't stand any of the new Windows MSN's purely because of their oversaturation of features. Games? Why the hell would I want to play cheap, naff little games over MSN? Video is a miss, iChat handles it so much better and there's no way I want to look at some rubbish Windows webcam. And don't get me started on all those irritating tabs and adverts they force at you on Windows MSN.

messenger 6 crashes....
For people who have been experiencing messenger 6 crashing when trying to open an instant message window, ive managed to fix the problem for myself by changing the default font to something different...
for some reason it really didnt like akzidenz, changed it to helvetica and all is well..
thought this might help some people who have been having the same problem.
