I'm not all against Apple on this one, but Microsoft's response is EXACTLY how you get change. If people stop developing for iOS due to the costs involved, that will certainly get Apple's attention.

If you don't like the iPhone store... don't develop for it.
The problem is that developers like all the money they make from iPhones; they just think there should be no cost to use the platform.

Does Microsoft take a cut if a developer wants to sell games in Xbox store ?
or any one can sell games in Xbox store with out paying Microsoft ?
how is this different ?
Microsoft wants to make money but Microsoft doesn't want Apple to make money ?
Can i create a app/game store for Xbox and bypass Microsoft Xbox store ?
Where is the competition in Xbox store ?

The developers already paid their developer fee.
That’s not how it works. The $99 is for your signing, not to maintain the App Store. Free apps pay nothing, and the big apps making a lot of money support the system with revenue sharing.

Because they have to pay royalties to Apple in a sense (the Core Technology Fee) even through a Marketplace.|

Not a fan of Microsoft or their CEO, but they're right.
There are no royalties for free apps on the App Store. The old agreement still exists for MS. CTF is for free apps outside of the App Store who specifically do not use Apple’s payment processing. The Xbox/ xCloud app is allowed as-is on the App Store now. They don’t need to make a new marketplace for it, or launch it on someone else’s marketplace. It’s disingenuous.

Not enough money in it? Well, Satya Nadella should know. He's responsible for Microsoft's explosive growth since he took the helm from Ballmer in 2014. Stock was worth $43 back then. Today it closed at $406.56. Pretty obvious they're firing on all cylinders.

What? They literally can monetize it because you have to subscribe to Xbox Cloud gaming to use it and they can offer the app for free without paying any fees.
What else do they want?
There's a charge of something like 50¢ per user per app. If each installed cloud based game costs Microsoft 50¢, that could easily be $5/user/year.

At $17/month, that's about 2.5% of Microsoft's total sales - not profit, sales.

I don't blame Microsoft for saying that's not reasonable. Would you be willing to give Apple 2.5% of your pre-tax income, just because they asked nicely?

Like I said, there are parts of me that side with Apple on this one. My point was how you invoke change.

Well... PC and smartphones are general computing devices, but xbox is a gaming console specifically designed to be a closed system. You don't even get to obtain Xbox SDK unless approved by Microsoft. That makes all the difference.

Many would argue that a smartphone is far more like a console like a general computing device.

I know I don't want virus/malware checkers on my phone or dealing with the hassles of a computer.

Yeah, that difference is due to Microsoft wanting it to be that way, not any intrinsic reason, because, on Xbox there are apps just like with smartphones, you have Netflix, Spotify, etc.

So, why wouldn't you have third party app stores there as well?

Microsoft then: Internet Explorer is an integral part of the OS and you must license and install it if you are going to manufacture and sell Windows PCs. As a consumer, it's the only browser you are allowed to see when you boot up your Windows PC. ISPs can't even mention competing browsers to their customers.

Microsoft now: Apple isn't letting us make as much money as we'd like from the store and customer base that they created, so they're anti-competitive.

WOW. what a blow. Xbox Cloud on iPad OS mirrored to a big screen TV would be awesome.
TOUCH screen. unlike macOS

Lots of people dont think Xbox hardware will be around in the future.

Leave it to Microsoft to claim that they wouldn't be able to make money providing a gaming service to over a billion well-off customers...

Amazon has no problem with Cloud gaming on iOS but Microsoft can't seem to pull it off?

so says a man who is part of the company that tried and kept failing with phones.

they almost had an idea.
then the Nokia guy steered them to failure. ;)

I'm skeptical about this. Under the current arrangement they could make the app, and even have a link, albeit with some scary text, to signup for Gamepass within the app. No cost to MS, no Core Tech Fee, just a simple client. Besides political shenanigans what am I missing here?

The new rule about game streaming apps has nothing to do with the DMA changes and does not require them to pay the CTF. The rule was just announced at the same time.

Microsoft can release the Xbox app for iOS in the App Store without paying Apple a dime now.

Nadella is a certified moron who's all about short term profit at the expense of long term stability. Hardly a shock Wall Street loves him.
